———CALENDAR OF THE WEEK———

Dear Parishioners and Visitors,

This coming Saturday, October 26

th

, Retired

Bishop Robert Cunningham will be coming to OLGC to

celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation for 36 of our

young people—thirty from OLGC and six from St. Am-

brose. The celebration will take place at 6pm and will also

suffice for the regular Sunday mass. All are welcome to be

present at the Confirmation celebration. Congratulations to

all our Confirmation candidates!!

I now turn your attention to the annual Hope Ap-

peal campaign. All pledges and donations need to be in by

November 30

th

, and currently both parishes are behind in

their goals. OLGC is currently short by $1200, while St.

Ambrose is short by $4100. This is a last ditch appeal by

me to all those who have not contributed yet. It is impera-

tive that this be an effort that all participate in, even if by

donating a small amount. Every donation helps—not only

those of our Diocese who are served by ministries funded

by the Hope Appeal—but it helps our parishes as well since

our Hope Appeal assessment will have to come out of the

parishes’ general saving accounts if not paid directly by we

the parishioners. If you have made your donation, I say

thank you. And if you have not, any contribution that you

can afford, however small, will help. Please assist us in

this effort.

I hope you all have a great week!

Fr. Michael

UE Elementary School Volunteers Needed

Reading Tutors at AGM, CFJ, TJW & GFJ elementary

schools. Volunteers spend 1/2 to 1 1/2 hours one day a week at

the school of their choice.

There is also a need for Math Tutors to teach basic

addition, subtraction, multiplication & division. Anyone inter-

ested in more info, please call Dick Testa at 754-5492.

RESPECT LIFE! Gov. Cuomo’s “Reproductive Health Act”

of 2019 has legalized late-term abortions of fully-formed in-

fants in the womb, expanded the pool of practitioners who can

perform abortions, and has removed legal protections for babies

who survive abortion. As Catholic Christians we need to

voice our protest of this legislation. At the entrances of the

church are letters to send to Gov. Cuomo to express our opposi-

tion to abortion. Please take one home, sign it, and mail it in to

the address on the letter; if you prefer, you can drop it off at the

rectory or place in the collection basket, and we will mail all

letters together.

Religious Corner

World Mission Sunday

October 20, 2019

World Mission Sunday is a day set aside for the Catholic

Church throughout the world to publicly renew its commitment to

the missionary movement. It is celebrated on penultimate (next-to

-last) Sunday of October every year. It was created by Pope Pius

XI in 1926 as the day of prayer for missions. At Mass that Sun-

day, we recommit ourselves to our common vocation,

through Baptism, to be missionaries, through prayer, partic-

ipation in the Eucharist, and by giving generously to the

collection for the Society for the Propagation of the Faith.

This year, Pope Francis addresses his World Mission Sun-

day message to us as we live out our baptismal call to be

sent forth to evangelize the world. This is the mission that

all Christians have received, and God gives us the grace to

live it out wherever we may be.

In a world where so much divides us, World Mission Sun-

day rejoices in our unity as missionaries by our Baptism.

And it provides an opportunity to support the life-giving

presence of the Church among the poor and marginalized.
