Presidents Report Where do I start? Another week filled with many Rotary events. Wolf and I had the pleasure of helping all those who are “Golfers” at the Mayoral Golf Day at Royal Melbourne. We were the “targets” midway along the 6th fairway especially designed to help those golfers playing at the course for the first time, keep their little white ball on the green stuff. Thanks to Jim and his team for another successful event. Just remember that it’s our turn to organise it next year. On Thursday night we welcomed our third new member this year, Max Darby. I know he will make a great Beaumaris Rotarian. We also had our own Richard Shermon enlighten us on current financial and tax planning topics.

Friday night, Trish and I attended the last quarterly District Presidents’ meeting. Some key takeaways were:

in Canberra focused on membership. Saturday “the gods” smiled down on Beaumaris and delivered fine weather, good crowds and another successful Farmer’s Market. We had some new ideas like a Mother’s Day raffle, and Egg & Bacon Rolls at the BBQ which were a great success. Thanks again to all our members and partners who helped, and I hope one of our newest members, Lynda Doutch enjoyed her time at the BBQ. You just can’t be a Rotarian without having “worked at a BBQ” on your resume. Next week we have Annette Allison from the Royal Flying Doctor Service speaking, and Mal-colm Parks will chair the meeting.

Final Fellowship Event for President Ken’s Year.

Our final fellowship for our Rotary year is on Thursday 4th June as there is no meeting at VGC. It’s called GUESS WHO YOU ARE HAV-ING TO DINNER. (Or more to the point who are you having dinner with?) Our current Rotary Royalty ,President Ken and his lady Shirley will be “In residence” with new-comers to the position , President Elect Trish and her consort Wolf warming up to take their seats of power. Join us to wine and dine with them at; 31 A Io-na Street, Black Rock. 6.30 for 7 pm start. Three course meal plus nibbles. Cost $30 per person plus BYO bottle of wine. T #"P: F"���P"�� P����"�' Club Member Richard the Managing Director of the business and has over 25 years experience in the financial services industry after graduat-ing from Oxford University with a first class honours degree in Mathematics in 1987. He qualified as an Actuary in 1990 and is a Fel-low of the Institute of Actuaries. He worked for AXA Sun Life in the UK until moving to Austral-ia in 2000 where he took up the position of General Manager of Marketing and Product De-velopment for AXA Australia. He moved to Singapore in 2005 to lead AXA’s life insurance company in that country before returning to Melbourne in 2008 to establish Re-serve Financial Consulting. He is married to Joanna and has two teenage sons Alex and Marc. Richard stepped in at the last moment to cover for a change in the Club programme. As he is bound by the strict laws governing Financial Planners he gave some broad advice and left time to answer specific questions. Some slides from his presentation follow;

Model United Nations Assembly 2015 On behalf of District 9810 and of the members of the MUNA Committee I thank you all for sponsoring teams in this year's MUNA. The del-egates representing 40 countries, the diplomat-ic couriers, and those of us officiating and judg-ing the performances over the weekend, we all had a most enjoyable and satisfying weekend. I have also had a large numbers of messages of congratulations and support for the MUNA pro-gramme and the beneficial effects it has on par-ticipating students. Many of these messages came from those watching in the public galler-ies where visiting Rotarians, parents, teachers, and youngsters who had participated in past MUNA events sat and admired the outstanding ability of the students debating global issues in the Legislative Assembly chamber. Prizes were awarded at the conclusion of the two days: Best performing team on the weekend team from Sacred Heart College representing India, sponsored by RC Oakleigh Runners-up team from Yarra Hills Secondary College repre-senting Syria, sponsored by RC Montrose & District Most Popular team voted by the students team from Doncaster Secondary College repre-senting Sudan, sponsored by RC Doncaster Best Costume representing their country team from Sandringham College representing Thailand, sponsored by RC Sandringham District Governor's Special Commendation team from Yarra Hills Secondary College repre-senting Syria, sponsored by RC Montrose & District Best resolution submitted by students team from Mater Christi College representing Egypt, sponsored by RC Boronia The best performing team gets the opportunity to travel to Canberra in August to take part in MUNA from Friday 14 to Sunday 16 August at the Museum of Australian Democracy.

We congratulate all students who participated, including those who nominated but had to with-draw based on medical grounds and changing circumstances. It takes courage and some hard work to be prepared to step forward in such a public event. All these students can rightly be proud of their achievements and of the contri-bution they have made to the understanding of several of the most important global issues. For those interested in seeing some of the ac-tion and the participants, photos taken by our official photographer Ian Ballantine can be found at the web site rotarybmc.org/muna. We recommend that all clubs sponsoring a team should invite their team to one of their meetings to talk about their experiences, their impressions, and the outcome of their involve-ment in the MUNA weekend.
