We were very lucky to be able to hold our Changeover Dinner this year in person, instead of online. It was wonderful to see everyone gathered together . Thanks to our MC Chris Mara for ensuring the night ran very smoothly. Thank you also to everyone who participated in the send off to Adrian and Penny. In particular, I would like to thank Shirley & Ken ‘COVID’ Mirams for organising the props , and Liz Tanzimat for pulling all of the ideas together into a script. As is usual in Rotary, it was definitely a team effort. Special thanks to Joy Lea for providing a beautiful tropical backdrop for Bridget – it was a masterpiece ! Many of you will receiving emails from me checking if you are happy to remain on your chosen Committee or if you feel it’s time for a change. I expect most of you will stay where you are, but I think it’s always a useful exercise to reflect on how you are contributing to our Club. Next Saturday is our Farmers Market at Royal Avenue Park. Good luck to all our volunteers – I hope the weather is kind to you. Yours in Rotary Lynda Venue is VGC, 6:50 for 7:00 unless otherwise noted. Covid rules apply as advised. President’s Message

Dear Members and Friends,

Welcome to a new Rotary year !

As is usual in Rotary, it was definitely

a team effort.

Special thanks to Joy Lea for providing a beautiful tropical

backdrop for Bridget – it was a masterpiece !

Many of you will receiving emails from me checking if you are happy to remain on your chosen Committee or if you feel it’s time for a change. I expect most of you will stay where you are, but I think it’s always a useful exercise to reflect on how you are

contributing to our Club.

Next Saturday is our Farmers Market at Royal Avenue Park. Good luck to all our volunteers – I hope the weather is kind to

you.

Yours in Rotary

Lynda

The Rotary Foundation.

#1 in a series of occasional pieces about our Foundation.

Rotarian Arch Klumph’s idea for an endowment fund dedicated to “doing good in the world” planted the seed of The Rotary Foundation in 1917. In the last 100 years or so The Rotary Foundation has spent more than $4 billion on life-

changing, sustainable projects.

The Rotary Foundation is Our Charity. The Foundation is organized as a public charity operated exclusively for chari-

table purposes and governed by a Board of Trustees.

Why should you care? Well this where the money to support Polio+, District, Global and Disaster Relief Grants comes from. In the year ending June 2020 this totalled some $US 330 million. The Foundation is also exceedingly well man-aged. For the 13th consecutive year, The Rotary Foundation has received the highest rating — four stars — from Charity Navigator, an independent evaluator of charities in the United States. In fact 91% of the funds received are

spent on Program Awards and Operations.

So where does the money come from? Rotarians have been giving to the Foundation since 1917, these donations plus investment returns provide the funds. If you want to join a long tradition of Rotarians who make the Rotary Foun-dation one of their charity choices talk to the club’s Foundation Chair, Chris D’Arcy. If you already give to The Rotary

Foundation, thank you.

As a reward for reading this far, there is a prize (I promise worth winning) for the first club member who can e mail me the answer to this question. How much was the first recorded donation to the Rotary Foundation? Sorry Beau, you

are not eligible.

Chris D’Arcy.

Bayside Mayor Laurie Evans with James Glenwright and John Manks.
