SAINT MARY ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH BEDFORD, OH

BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT GROUP Just a reminder that the monthly Bereavement sup-port group meeting in December will be on the sec-ond Tuesday of the month (12/10) at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Hope church. We will be talking about cop-ing with grief during the holidays. Anyone is wel-come even if you have never attended before. STATIONS OF THE NATIVITY Please join us on Monday, December 9th (please note change of date) at Our Lady of Hope Church at 2:00 p.m. for these stations. The events leading up to and following the birth of Christ are arranged into 14 "stations," beginning with the angel's announcement to Zechariah and ending with the return of Mary, Jo-seph and Jesus from Egypt. Hope to see you there if you can make it.

HUNGARIAN CULTURAL CENTER OF NEO

The Hungarian Cultural Center of Northeast Ohio is sponsoring a Homemade Hungarian Cabbage Roll Fundraiser. The cabbage rolls, which are $20.00 per dozen, need to be ordered by Wednesday, December 4th, and are to be picked up Tuesday, December 10th at St. John’s Byzantine Church, 36125 Aurora Road in Solon. To place an order call: Elizabeth at 440-349-4104; Linda at 440-248-4530; or Beverly at 216-475-2920.

CATHOLIC CEMETERIES ASSOCIATION MONTHLY GRIEF SUPPORT The next Grief Support Group meets on Sunday, De-cember 15th from 3:00-4:00 p.m. at All Saints Ceme-tery in Northfield and Calvary Cemetery in Cleve-land. The topic for December is: Emmanuel/God With Us: You are Not Alone. There are compassionate and skilled grief support leaders at the locations. The Grief Support Groups are available to everyone in the diocese and the grieving in our communities at large. Many people courageously walk this daily grief jour-ney alone and this holiday season can be particularly difficult. If you are interested in participating in the Grief Support Group, contact Rhonda or call 216-930-4866. A reservation is not required, but is appreciat-ed.

FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT DECEMBER 1, 2019

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK Dear Parishioners, Both Saint Mary and Our Lady of Hope offertory enhancement campaigns are officially concluded, and I want to thank all those parishioners who sent in a pledge card. I realize that not everyone can in-crease their weekly contribution due to financial constraints. The Church just asks that you do what you can to help support these two faith communi-ties. The company helping us run both campaigns, Our Sunday Visitor, will issue me a final financial summary of the increase in contributions. Both par-ishes were over the 50% participation rate for all registered parishioners, and this was a very positive benchmark to reach. Once I have the data from Our Sunday Visitor, I will publish it in the bulletin, and this will happen before the end of the calendar year. If you have been keeping track in the bulletin, both parishes have seen average weekly increases in the Sunday collection since Commitment Weekend back on October 5th/6th. This week is special in a couple of ways. First, this Sunday, December 1st, is the beginning of Advent. Advent has multiple meanings and themes. Advent has a penitential or sorrowful theme, similar to the Season of Lent. Advent also has a theme of prepa-ration for the Second and Final Coming of Christ at the end of time. Finally, Advent has a joyful theme of getting ready for the Incarnation or the coming of Jesus into the world on Christmas. Secondly, this coming Saturday, December 7th, we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the current church building at St. Mary. The first Mass took place on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception 50 years ago on December 8th with Bishop Clarence Issenmann celebrating. This Saturday, December 7th, Bishop Roger Gries will be the celebrant of the anniversary Mass with past-serving priests of St. Mary concelebrating the Mass. We wish the parish communi-ty of St. Mary well as they cel-ebrate this momentous occa-sion. Advent blessings, Father Joe LADIES GUILD The Ladies Guild will have its annual Christmas Par-ty on Wednesday, December 4th at 6:30 p.m. at Light of Hearts Villa.

MARK YOUR CALENDAR December 14th & 15th—Food Collection/Sales

SAINT MARY ANNIVERSARY MASS AND DINNER On Saturday, December 7th, we will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of our present church building. The Most Reverend Bishop Roger W. Gries will celebrate Mass at 4:00 p.m., and past priests who were assigned to Saint Mary will be invited to concelebrate the Mass. An Anniversary dinner will follow the Mass at Light of Hearts Villa at 5:30 p.m. The tickets for dinner are $25 each or $45 for a couple. The menu includes roasted top round of beef, chicken marsala, penne pasta with marinara sauce, garlic roasted red skin po-tatoes, and green beans almondine. Dinner tickets can be purchased either after Mass or at either rectory during office hours. CHINESE AUCTION We have Chinese Auction Baskets and 50/50 raffle tickets available for sale this weekend, 11/30 and 12/1. Tickets will also be available on 12/7 at the an-niversary dinner. They will not be available at Mass on this date. Tickets will be drawn at the dinner. Winners need not be present. Thank you for your sup-port and Happy Anniversary to St. Mary's church. ST. VINCENT DEPAUL There is an advent spirit in the heart of every human person. It is one of longing, of yearning for a fulfill-ment that somehow lies beyond ourselves; for we long for the com-ing of the Lord. As you give your monetary gift to St. Vincent de Paul your heart will discover the true meaning of Christ-mas as you help those who are suffering and poor to long for the coming of the Lord.
