A LITTLE HUMOR
Join us at noon on Wednesday, March 18 to begin a ‘lunch and learn’ group for everyone 55 and over. A light lunch will be provided. Hope to see you at the parish hall!
Parish Council met this past week. The four new members beginning their terms are Pat Eckman, Isaac Greenwell, Randy Greenwell and Travis Hancock. I thank them for their willingness to serve. I think they will make great contributions in serving our parish. We also elected new officers for the Parish Council. Linda Baird has agreed to serve as Chairperson, Beth French as Vice-Chair, and Beth Thomas is Secretary. It looks like the women have got it covered! Thanks to all who attended our parish social last weekend. There was a good spirit in the air. It is important to continue to strengthen our bonds as a parish family. I met with a group of interested and willing parishioners to begin offering opportunities to shall we say… parishioners who are holding at age 39. The first gathering is called ‘Lunch and Learn’ and will be held on Wednesday, March 18, from 12:00 noon - 1:30 pm in our parish hall. A light lunch will be provided and a questionnaire to gauge interest on what kind of activities people want to do. The idea is simply to provide times of fellowship and fun, and again, to strengthen the bonds within this segment of our parish family. So, if you are holding at age 39 and are interested, save the date. I’d like to continue to encourage everyone to have their picture taken for our parish pictorial directory. There’s still time to make an appointment with the photographers. The dates they will be available are February 19, 20, 21, 22, and 25. The 21st is a Friday and John Paul II will be using our parish hall that night for Homecoming. This means that we will have to end the photography sessions that day at 5:00 pm. You can make your appointment after weekend masses or via the link provided on our parish website. If I had really been on the ball, I would have asked you to bring a candle from home with you to mass this weekend. But alas, I wasn’t that much on the ball. Nevertheless, February 2 is the day we celebrate the Presentation of the Lord, which we still do even though it falls on a Sunday. The Presentation is also known as Candlemas. In some places in the Church, it is an ancient tradition to leave Christmas trees up until the Presentation. People would bring candles, light them and process into church where they would be blessed. The lighted candles were a symbol of Jesus as the light of the world. What we will do is bless some of our altar candles using the Second Form: The Solemn Entrance, which you can find in the Breaking Bread. Until next week… Fr. Randy
