Our Skoolbag app is up and running and will be used primarily for messages and reminders. We are strongly encouraging every family to join up. Instructions are available at the front office and for download on our website under ‘Notes’. Please let us know if you have any questions about the app or have identified any problems. Parents and carers play an important role in the school community. The School Community Charter on display in our foyer informs parents and carers on how to engage with NSW public schools. We encourage you to read this to ensure you understand how important it is to create a positive learning environment for our students. Parents and carers can expect:

• to be welcomed into our schools to work in partnership to promote student learning

• communication from teaching staff will be timely, polite, informative and solutions focussed

• professional relationships with school staff will be based on transparency, honesty and mutual respect

• to be treated fairly. Tolerance and understanding are promoted as we respect diversity.

Parent teacher interview notes have now gone out for most classes and we are looking forward to discussing the learning journey of your child or children face to face. Interviews will be held in the hall. We are very excited about tomorrows Athletics Carnival. Students will be travelling to and from Glendale Athletics Centre by bus and are encouraged to wear their house colours. This is such a great day and we are looking forward to welcoming parents and carers to our first big event of the year. Students will need to ensure they bring plenty of water and their own food. Blackalls Park Year 6 students have been selected to be part of a VALID Science trial. This will involve students sitting for a 40 minute online science test sometime over the next two weeks. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this or would not like your child or children to participate please contact the front office. Harmony Week is next week. This is a time where we celebrate the cultural diversity of our school community in our inclusive and respectful setting. The canteen will be running some fantastic specials over the week. Each class will be engaging in activities and on the Friday they will present their work to the assembly. Just another example of how everyone is known, valued and cared for at our school. Students from Years One and Two will be attending an excursion to the Hunter Wetlands next Tuesday as part of their Science unit ‘Living Things’. This will be a great opportunity for some hands on learning and exploration of the wetland environment. Josh, Nate and Jake participated in the Westlakes Zone soccer trials today and we hope they had a great time working with their team mates.
