On Friday morning while delivering newspapers, Platinum Gazette’s team saw people placing rubbish into black bags at the mass containers that looked so awful last week (see p1 one of last week’s newspaper). On Saturday, on our way to Jane Furse, it was so clean around this particular mass container that you could eat from the ground if scrubbed with soap. But alas, everything was not what it seemed to be. The containers and town were not cleaned by THEM (the local municipality), but by Ngululu Bulk Carriers who decided to do the company’s bit for the community in this regard. Four points in town were identified in collaboration with Town Management to clean as the muicipality still claimed broken down equipment and vehicles. “It is not only unhygenic, but also creates a poor impresssion of the area and are bad for tourism” says Ngululu. Steelpoort’s mass rubbish containers are spick and span. On Friday morning whiledelivering newspapers, Platinum Gazette’s team saw people placing rubbish into blackbags at the mass containers that looked so awful last week (see p1 one of last week’snewspaper). On Saturday, on our way to Jane Furse, it was so clean around this particularmass container that you could eat from the ground if scrubbed with soap. But alas,everything was not what it seemed to be. The containers and town were not cleaned byTHEM (the local municipality), but by Ngululu Bulk Carriers who decided to do thecompany’s bit for the community in this regard. Four points in town were identified incollaboration with Town Management to clean as the muicipality still claimed broken downequipment and vehicles. “It is not only unhygenic, but also creates a poor impresssion ofthe area and are bad for tourism” says Ngululu. The joint inauguration of SekhukhuneDistrict’s six mayors at Jane Furse last weekSaturday was a grand event. The dignitarieswere escorted to the stage by drummajorettes and the ZCC brass band. Duringthe programme the crowds, those seatedunder the big tents and those who chose toseek the warmth of the sun, were entertainedby various cultural and other groups. Agrand performance was also given by theZCC brass band and ZCC choir. CllrCaroline Mathebe, the District Speaker, wasthe programme director and each mayor hadhis or her part to perform during theprogramme. After the new mayors was swornin on the open ground on the crowd’s levelwhere the proceedings could be bettterwitnessed, they returned to the stage wherethey were welcomed by a praise singer. On 10 July 2011 Tubatse Police arrested 23 year old woman in connection with malicious damage toproperty. The arrest follows after a crime in Bothashoek on 10 July 2011. The accused had anargument with a 25 year old woman and after that the accused started to break the windows and thefurniture. The matter was reported to the police in Tubatse on the same day and the suspect was alsoarrested the same day. The accused, Lisbeth Moraba, appeared in the Praktiseer Magistrate‘s Court on11 July 2011 and she was sentenced to two months imprisonment with an option fine of R800.

On 08 July 2011 Tubatse police arrested a 41 year old man in connection with malicious damage toproperty. The arrest follows after a crime occurred in Riba Cross village on 08 July 2011. A 42 year oldman alleged that he found two men busy breaking his shack. The complainant managed to identify oneof the two suspects and reported the matter to the Police on the same day. The police made follow-upsand managed to arrest that suspect. The suspect, Thomo Mphethi, appeared in the PraktiseerMagistrate‘s Court and he was granted bail of R1000-00. The case was postponed to 28 July 2011.

On 10 July 2011 Tubatse Police arrested a 31 year old woman for assault with the purpose to inflictgrievous bodily harm. The arrest follows after a crime that occurred in Riba Cross (Mandela) on 09 July2011. A 24 year old woman alleged that the suspect assaulted her with a stick and fists after they hadan argument. The matter was reported to the Police in Tubatse on the same night and the suspect wasalso arrested.The suspect, Rinny Phasha, appeared in the Praktiseer Magistrate‘s Court on 11 July2011 and she was released on warning. The case was postponed to 19 August 2011.

On 08 July 2011 Tubatse Police arrested a 28 year old man for assault with the purpose to inflictgrievous bodily harm. The suspect assaulted his sister with a stone after they had an argument. Thecrime occurred in Taung village on 07 July 2011. The matter was also reported in Tubatse Police on thesame day. The police made follow-ups that led to the arrest of the suspect on 08 July 2011. Theaccused,Victor Twenty Lekubu, appeared in the Praktiseer Magistrate‘s Court on 11 July 2011 and hewas sentenced to six months imprisonment without an option of fine.

On 09 July 2011 Tubatse Police arrested the 20 year old man for assault with the purpose to inflictgrievous bodily harm. The arrest follows after an incident in Praktiseer on 09 July 2011. A 25 year oldman alleged that the suspect assaulted him with fists after they had an argument. The case wasreported in Tubatse police the same day and the suspect was also arrested the same day.

The suspect, Tebatso Komane, appeared in the Praktiseer Magistrate‘s Court on 11 July 2011 andhe was not granted bail. The case was postponed to 187 July 2011.

On 08 July 2011 Tubatse Police arrested a 47 year old woman in connection with dealing in dagga.On the 08th of July the Police were busy patrolling around Riba Cross when they received a tip-offabout a person who is selling dagga. The Police made follow ups and proceeded to the said place andmanaged to find the dagga and arrested the 47 year old woman. The Police confiscated 9.8 kg dagga.The accused, Noria Lingwati, appeared in the Praktiseer Magistrate‘s Court on 11 Jule and she paid anadmission of guilt fine of R100.

On 09 July Tubatse Police arrested two men aged 22 and 27 years for possession of an unlicencedfirearm and possession of suspected stolen property. On 09 July the police were busy patrolling aroundMabocha village when they received a tip-off about the two men who are in possession of a firearm.The Police made follow-ups and proceeded to the said place and managed to find the two men and the9mm firearm and 1 round live ammunition were found. The Police also found suspected stolen goods,4 cell phones, a DVD player, ID, and a subwoofer (speaker). The two men were arrested for possessionof suspected stolen property and possession of a firearm without licence. All items were confiscated for

further investigations. The two suspects (Vusi Ndlovu and Themba Qwaba) appeared in the PraktiseerMagistrate‘s Court on 11 July 2011 and they were not granted the bail. The case was postponed to 18July 2011.

On 09 July 2011 Tubatse Police arrested the 38 year old man for driving motor vehicle under theinfluence of liquor. The arrest follows after an incident in Praktiseer on 09 July 2011. The police got amessage about an accident whereby two motor vehicles collided along the Praktiseer road. On arrivalthe Police discovered that one of the drivers is under the influence of liquor and he was arrested. Thesuspect, Lamack Mokoena, appeared in the Praktiseer Magistrate‘s Court and he was granted the bailof R3000. The case was postponed to 31 August 2011.

On 09 July 2011 Tubatse Police arrested the 27 year old woman for driving motor vehicle under theinfluence of liquor. On the same day the Police were busy patrolling around Praktiseer when theystopped a certain vehicle and found that the driver is under the influence of liquor. While busy arrestingthe driver a 28 year old man started to interfere and also assaulted the Police. The Police managed toarrest the driver for driving the motor vehicle under the influence of liquor and also arrested the othersuspect for assault. The suspects, Alleba Mkhondo and Elmon Khumalo, appeared in the PraktiseerMagistrate‘s Court on 11 July 2011 and they were granted bail of R1000 each. The case waspostponed to 30 August 2011.

‘Back to school’

If you could not get hold of your Greater Tubatse Municipality councillor this week, do notbe alarmed, they did not run away. Councillors attended a week long training seminar atBlydepoort where they were schooled in very neccessary skills to enable them to makethe most for their communities while they are serving on the hot seats. The course tookplace under ausopices of SALGA (SA Local Government Association) and includedaspects such as the budgeting process.

‘Dwars’,LIBSA andSEKFETbring joy

Thirteen entrepreneur companies in the Greater Tubatse Municipality celebrated on Wednesday after successfullycompleting an incubate programme of the Limpopo Business Support Agency, which was sponsored by DwarsrivierChrome Mine.

Classes were conducted by the Sekhukhune College for Further Education and Training.Gathering at the Tubatse Chrome Club on Wednesday representatives form all roleplayers, as well as the

incubate companies explained their role up to now, as well as the way forward. The LIBSA programme entails thatfledling entrepreneur companies are readied for the business world. In this regard Dwarsrivier Chrome Mineassisted with initially identifying 15 companies and sponsored their training.

13 of these companies successfully completed the skills training, which included computer training foradministration and bookkeeping purposes. In this regard Dwarsrivier also donated a powerful computer with allsoftware to run a small business to the companies, which was handed over to the new companies with their skilltraining certificates. Senior General Manager of ‘Dwars’, Mr Francois Uys, said not only did they complete theirtraining, but that three of the companies are already contracted by the mine, one of them building a new office block.He highlighted the role of each roleplayer, stressing that people should not forget the love of Jesus as an importantaspect in the whole process.

Other speakers stressed that people should not only look at mines for employment, but they should empowerthemselves with skills to create jobs and build a future for themselves in the general business environment. Theproceedings were concluded with a hearty meal.

On Sunday 10 July a Biker church servicetook place at the AFM Church in Steelpoort.The sermon for the morning was deliveredby Rene Changouin, the president of theChristian Motorcycle Association. The

message of the day encouraged everyonepresent to make sure that they know theirroad ahead is a road with Jesus Christ.After the service the motorcyclists went toLydenburg to have lunch.

Tubatse Gospelchoir aims tounearth talent

In an area where alcohol abuse are rife and limited opportunitiesfor young people are available, a group of talented youngsterstook the initiative to start creating their own opportunities.They started the Tubatse Gospel Choir. Currently they arepracticing 13 different songs and have members between theages of 14 and 20 years old. They are practising twice a weekand are based in Rietfontein (Kgautswane) near Ohrigstad.“We want to unearth talent and give young people opportunities toshowcase themselves,” said Mr Coldrick Makhubedu, one of themembers of the group.They are currently seeking sponsorship for various musicalinstruments and equipment needed when performing in front oflarge groups. They are also busy organising a musical event thatwill give artists from all genres a chance to showcase their talents.At the moment they are mostly performing at churches andschools in the area, but would like to expand to other areas andfunctions as well.“We know it is important to run this the right way. That is why wehave a committee to look after everything. From 7 to 9 July 13 players from The Winterveld Buffelsrugby club, participated in the annual Sub-UnionLimpopo rugby tournament, held in Polokwane. Theyformed part of a team - Sentraal (white and redjerseys); consisting of players from Winterveld,Polokwane Dorp’s club and Groblersdal Loskop club.The first round was played on Thursday, againstMopanie.“We won the match 15-5, all three tries were scored byplayers from our club. This victory secured our positionin the final” said Charl van der Merwe from the Club.“Friday, we played 7’s. In the first round, we wonMopanie 49-12, the second round we won Waterberg24-17 and then we lost against Vembe in the final 59-24. On Saturday afternoon, the u/23 team played theirfinal against Waterberg. We unfortunately lost the final22-10. Waterberg also won the Senior division of thetournament, congratulations to them. It was the fourthyear in a row that they won both the divisions. Playersthroughout the whole tournament have been selectedfor the Lowveld Amateur team, the team will beannouncedduring thisweek,hopefullybefore thepaper isprinted”.“To our clubmembers whoparticipated:well doneguys, youhaveaccomplisheda lot within
