No.21. 17th July 2017
Dear Parents,
Welcome back! We hope that your return to Third Term sees
you well rested and ready to embrace all that this busy and
exciting term brings. It’s always lovely to chat to the children
after their holidays with many of them eager to share their news.
We finished the last week of Term Two in fine style with the
Year 5/6 students celebrating their learning with the amazing
Living Museum. It was wonderful to engage the whole school
community in a showcase of this type. Students, teachers,
parents and grandparents were all thoroughly enthused by the
event with many of us, myself included, learning new knowledge
along the way. Congratulations to the students and teachers for
the effort and dedication that went into producing such a
memorable day. We look forward to more opportunities that
engage families in their child’s learning; the benefits are enormous!
Thank you also to our wonderful P & F who ran the sausage sizzle on the last day of term; these
‘special lunches’ always create a buzz around the place and the children very much appreciate the
effort.
Congratulations also to the students who represented St Mary’s at the AFL 9’s on the second last
day of term; with the weather exceptionally unkind, our students competed with sportsmanship and
determination. We are very proud of their efforts and are thrilled to announce that the girl’s team
won the day and now go onto compete at region level.
Looking ahead to this week, students in years 3-6 will begin production rehearsals on Thursday
afternoons and the year 5/6 students will begin the bowling program this Friday.
My prayers and best wishes for a lovely week.

NO NUTS
We have children attending our school with severe (life threatening) peanut allergies. As always, we are concerned for the safety of our children, and ask everyone to avoid bringing any items that may contain peanuts to
school, as the smallest amount of peanut or proteins of peanuts on benches, etc., can affect an allergic child. Whilst I can appreciate
that there may be children who just love to have their peanut butter sandwiches or bars, I am sure that if it was your child with the
allergy, you would also appreciate people helping out in this way

PARENTS AND FRIENDS COMMITTEE TUCKSHOP MANAGER POSITION VACANT
EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST NOW BEING TAKEN
After 5 years our current tuckshop manager will be hanging up her apron at the end of 2017. Therefore we need someone to take on her role for 2018. Expressions of Interest are now being taken. Uniforms
All St. Mary’s students are required to wear the full correct school uniform. We believe that the wearing of
uniforms promotes the children’s pride in their school and self-discipline. Uniform items can be purchased or
made at little cost. The uniform shop at St. Mary’s carries all uniform items, including school and library bags.
There is a small amount of second hand uniforms available in the shop.
Children are expected to have a school bag with the St Mary’s School logo.
Please ensure that your children bring their correct school bag.

ST MARY’S CAR PARK RULES
For the safety of all our children we ask that driver courtesy, patience and the utmost care is practised at all
times.
No standing in the driveway or roundabout areas unless
‘ALL’ parking spaces are taken.
DO NOT LET YOUR CHILDREN OUT OF YOUR CAR ON THE INSIDE
(drivers side) LANE OF THE ROUNDABOUT
We need access for emergency and delivery vehicles and buses. Blocking the driveway also means that others are unable to access available parking spaces and causes a dangerous back up of traffic in Clegg Road.
Pick up and drop off on the roundabout only at the designated place. Please ensure that your child can do
up their own seat belt if you are using this area, as this will ensure an uninterrupted flow.
If we all cooperate the car park does work. We find that generally, the car park is virtually cleared by 3.30pm. So it may be beneficial to come a little later, rather than earlier.
The speed limit at St Mary’s is 5km at all times in the Car Park
Please ensure that all items of uniform are well maintained, including
sports uniform and hats.
PLEASE LABEL YOUR
CHILDRENS UNIFORMS.
Any no name items will be
resold as second hand
uniform items at the
uniform shop!

WORKING WITH CHILDREN CHECK
All Parents and Friends visiting St Marys must have a ‘Working With Children Check’. These are available FREE to volunteers on line.
Child Safety Code of Conduct
St Mary’s endeavours to create and maintain an environment where child safety is paramount and there is zero tolerance of any form of child abuse.
What is the purpose of a child safety code of conduct? A child safety code of conduct is intended to promote child safety in the school environment. A child safety code of conduct spells out professional boundaries and acceptable and unacceptable adult/child relationships and behaviour.
It should be unambiguous, widely disseminated and supported by supervision, professional development and training. A child safety code of conduct helps schools, staff and volunteers to raise behavioural issues. It provides a reference point for discussion when there may otherwise be confusion, uncertainty, or a lack of confidence about boundaries for appropriate behaviour with children. The code specifies behaviour unacceptable for a professional relationship between a teacher and a student. All parents, relatives and caregivers
attending St Mary’s Primary School to help within the classroom must hold a current Working with Children Check and must have read and signed the Code of Conduct. Please go to our website for more information.
CHILD SAFETY CODE OF CONDUCTS CAN BE COMPLETED AT THE OFFICE
Please note: Due to change in
Monsignor the date for Confirmation has changed
from 9th December to Friday 10th November
2017 @ 6.00pm
