No.28. 4th September 2017

Dear Parents and Friends, My messages to you on the front page today are quite brief as I have also sent home a letter in

a sealed envelope to each family that I strongly encourage each parent to read.

Thank you to the P & F for their fabulous work once again, with the food bank cook up

special food day and last Friday. The Subway lunch made Footy Colours Day even more

special.

This week in preparation for the arrival of the Lady of Fatima statue (to the parish), all

students will be viewing a child suitable DVD of the events around the visitation of the Lady

of Fatima. The parish has also been generous in gifting all students with a set of Rosary beads

and holy card commemorating Our Lady of Fatima.

With such a busy term, I remind everyone that the best way to keep up to date regarding

what’s happening, is via the school newsletter and website. I know that sometimes the paper

copy of the newsletter doesn’t make its way home in one piece, however be assured that the newsletter is uploaded to

the website each Monday afternoon. The St Mary’s Facebook page isn’t run by the school and is a terrific way to

keep people connected, however when checking events, start times, requirements etc. the best source of information is

the newsletter and the website.

Congratulations to the students who represented us at the district athletics last week, with some making it through to

zone; well done! Thanks to Mrs Mc Cormack who dedicates so much of her time to seeking sporting opportunities for

the children.

A couple of reminders:

Parent Teacher Interviews are next week (Thurs Sept 14th). Details of how to book on line are on the school

website.

Year 3-6 Production “A Quest for Colour” is on in week 10 and ticket order forms are in this newsletter.

Jesus Do?)

Costume requirements for the production are also going home this week and will also be posted on the school

website. The school costume wardrobe is available for borrowing of costumes; parents are invited to borrow

from the costumes in the hall.

NO NUTS

We have children attending our school with severe (life threatening) peanut allergies. As always, we are concerned for the safety of our children, and ask everyone to avoid bringing any items that may contain peanuts to school, as the

smallest amount of peanut or proteins of peanuts on benches, etc., can affect an allergic child. Whilst I can appreciate that there may be children who

just love to have their peanut butter sandwiches or bars, I am sure that if it was your child with the allergy, you would also appreciate people helping

out in this wa

Child Safety Code of Conduct

St Mary’s endeavours to create and maintain an environment where child safety is paramount and there is zero tolerance of any form of child abuse.

What is the purpose of a child safety code of conduct? A child safety code of conduct is intended to promote child safety in the school environment. A child safety code of conduct spells out professional boundaries and acceptable and unacceptable adult/child relationships and behaviour.

It should be unambiguous, widely disseminated and supported by supervision, professional development and training. A child safety code of conduct helps schools, staff and volunteers to raise behavioural issues. It provides a reference point for discussion when there may otherwise be confusion, uncertainty, or a lack of confidence about boundaries for appropriate behaviour with children. The code specifies behaviour unacceptable for a professional relationship between a teacher and a student. All parents, relatives and caregivers attending St Mary’s Primary School to help within the classroom must hold a

current Working with Children Check and must have read and signed the Code of Conduct. Please go to our website for more information.

CHILD SAFETY CODE OF CONDUCTS CAN BE COMPLETED AT THE OFFICE

WORKING WITH CHILDREN CHECK

All Parents and Friends visiting St Marys must have a ‘Working With Children Check’. These are available FREE to volunteers on line

In an effort to cater for everyone, we will hold Working Bees across a range of days and times. If these dates to not suit you please contact the office and schedule a time that will be appropriate. If you are a tradie, we would appreciate your expertise at times, so please let us know your skills below. Please complete and return the form to the office by February 10th 2017. District Athletics 2017 Last Friday we had 48 students represent St Marys at the Montrose district athletics carnival. In perfect weather conditions, eight schools competed at the event held at Morrison Reserve. Overall St Marys came fourth, a fantastic effort against some tough competition. Individually the kids gave their absolute best efforts. Never giving up and showing great sportsmanship while they ran, jumped or threw. Thank you to Kerrie F and Rose B for helping out at long Jump for most of the day. Many thanks also to all the parents that came to support and cheer the kids on. Well done to all the kids that competed, you are all absolute superstars! It is such a pleasure to watch you all get out there and try your best. Good luck to the following students who have qualified for Division next term: Alice McC (1500, 800), Mawson S (800), Cohen S (shot put), Charlie B (triple jump), Lily R (triple jump), Nash C (shot put) and Josh D (triple jump).
