Elementary stu-dents in grades 3-6 have been chal-lenged to read one million words this school year (as cal-culated by Accelerat-ed Reader tests stu-dents take over the books they’ve read). So far, five stu-dents have sur-passed the mile-stone. SCC to Extend Career Option Classes Southeastern Community College’s Center for Business (CBIZ) programs will extend the career exploration process even further in the areas of Auto Technology, Welding and Graphic Arts. The classes are offered for students in 8th-11th grades. They run over two weekends (January 26 and February 2) for for 6 hours total instruction time from 9 am to noon. Cost is $49 per program. Each class offers a chance to develop a higher level of skills than our traditional summer programs, as well as introduction to business people who are working in the field.
