PASTOR’S COLUMN
Dear Community of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, As we enter into Holy Week, we are invited to participate in the sufferings of Christ our Lord.
“I gave my back to those who beat me … my face I did not shield from buffets and spitting…” Isaiah
Our Lord Jesus Christ came down to our level, to save us. He carried all sin with His love, to save us from evil.
“Jesus emptied Himself … taking the form off a slave … coming in human likeness … He humbled Himself … becoming obedient to the point of death …
even death on a cross …” Philippians
Let us meditate and pray with the Passion of the Lord. May we become one with Him, more and more each day. Lord Jesus, save us!
Monsignor Lorenzo

Always keep your blind spots in mind
Each week, more than 50 children are killed or injured when a driver backs up the car. In an over-whelming number of those cases, a parent, rela ve, or close friend is behind the wheel. It’s devasta ng to think that a simple ac on could cause such harm to your child, but it happens far too frequently. Be aware of your ‘blind spots’ when you’re behind the wheel — those areas you know are there, but can’t see clearly from your mirrors. Check out what’s happening around your vehicle before you get in. Make sure you know where your children are be-fore you start your car.
My brothers and my sisters;
The palm that we held in hand has a very special meaning and asks us for a commitment. We take it to our homes and we will keep it with respect. Some put them in their cars, as a sign of protec on. But above all that Palm should remind us through-out the year, that today we have made a commit-ment to follow Christ to death, not as a people who today acclaim him and then betray him. If we on this day have made a procession it is not just a tra-di on or to evoke something that belongs to the past. The Church invites us today to update the dra-ma of passion, to revive it in our own lives, to achieve a real and defini ve conversion to God. Many mes our Sunday Mass has nothing to do with our rou ne life. That is why it is important that these palms remind us every day that faith is not an elegant dress that we wear on Sundays, but a tunic that we should always wear.

HOLY SINNERS
It is said that as St. Francis of Assisi lay dying, he claimed to be the greatest of sinners. The holier we become, the more aware we are of our sinfulness.
“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure,
whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of
praise, think about these things” Philippians 4:8

JESUS ANNOUNCES GOD’S KINGDOM OF LOVE Jesus had walked, healed, forgiven sins, per-formed miracles, and eaten with the people. His message was simple yet profound: in Christ, the kingdom of God is at hand. Jesus announced God’s kingdom of love, teaching all who would listen. In God’s kingdom, the greatest is as the youngest; the leader is the servant. Those who follow Jesus are called to wash feet, a end to the last and the least, show mercy to the sinner, and love enemies. Even in the hour of his passion, Jesus did not turn away from his mission of love. He healed the ear of one who had come to arrest him, did not lash out at Pi-late or Herod, consoled the women who wept, and forgave those who crucified him. He heard the cry of the criminal who called out to him from the cross, and promised him a place in Paradise. Jesus shows us that God’s way is the way of love at all costs, even when it means giving more than we think appropriate or possible.
WE SHARE CHRIST’S MISSION Let us not be mistaken. Jesus’ mercy and for-giveness led him to the cross, and we who follow him will surely experience trial and be misunder-stood in our determina on to live as disciples. We will be called to make difficult decisions about the way we live our lives, serve others, give of our me and money, show pa ence, and favor those who are poor and vulnerable. Friends may turn away, family members may ques on our commitment to Christ above all else. Jesus remained singularly focused on God’s will. And so must we. Jesus gave without coun ng the cost, and so must we. In Christ, we also have a mission of love. We, too, are called to stay focused on God’s will. In this, we will announce God’s kingdom and be assured of our place in it when Christ returns in glory. In this Holy Week, let us reflect deeply on the mystery of God’s love for us in Christ and renew our commitment to live as Chris an disciples in the world. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc

Mis hermanos y mis hermanas;
Bendiciones, Diacono Carlos
