The initiatives of the Office of Formation & Discipleship give pastors, parish staff and lay leaders support, resources and professional development opportunities to better serve their community through religious education for children, youth, young adult, adult faith formation, sacramental preparation, marriage and family life, and pastoral care. Living the Faith A donation to the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal encourages indi-viduals, parishes, and the larger community to answer God’s call to love and care for one another through Justice & Peace Ministries of the Office of Life, Dignity & Justice. All communi-ties, such as veterans, immigrants, and those with HIV/AIDS, are supported by the work of Justice and Peace Ministries, working to serve all through education and action rooted in the Gospel. Spreading/Keeping the Faith The Office of Vocations is just one of the over 25 offices of the Archdiocese of Atlanta that work towards the mission of pro-claiming the Good News and growing all of North Georgia in faith, hope, love, and service to others. In today’s first reading, the Israelites are urged to love their neigh-bors as themselves. In the Gospel, Jesus spells out how we are to do that—to give generously to those who ask of us and not to turn our backs on those who seek to borrow.

El amor de Dios nos invita a la integridad. Séptimo Domingo en el Tiempo Ordinario Semana del 19 de febrero del 2017 Escucha la Palabra (Mateo 5:38 — 48) Cuando oyen la palabra enemigo, ¿qué o quién creen que representa esa definición? ¿Cómo dan la otra mejilla? ¿Qué significa eso para uste-des? ¿Qué tan completo es su amor por ese enemigo? Ve tu vida Pregunta para los niños: ¿Qué pueden hacer en la casa o en la es-cuela para mostrar que siguen los mandamientos de Jesús? Pregunta para los jóvenes: ¿Creen que cuando Jesús dijo que amára-mos a nuestros enemigos lo estaba diciendo en serio? ¿Por qué? Pregunta para los adultos: ¿Alguna vez le han dicho a alguien que haga algo por su bienestar? ¿Aceptan las leyes de Dios siguiendo el mismo espíritu de amor e interés? Actividades de la semana
Tomen estas actividades para reflexionar más:
Pidan a cada familiar que hable de una ocasión en que su arma contra la maldad fue el “bien”. ¿Cómo se usó el “bien” para contra-rrestar la maldad?
¿En qué se parece amarse unos a otros al carácter de Dios? Co-menten sobre la comunidad que está en la Trinidad de Dios. Dios el Padre, Jesús el Hijo y el Espíritu Santo viven y aman en comuni-dad. ¿Cómo es esa comunidad un ejemplo de todas las relacio-nes? ¿Por qué podría eso funcionar tan bien?
Pidan a los familiares dialogar sobre que es amar a los demás y por qué es importante hacerlo. ¿Cuál es el papel que juega el per-dón en esta ecuación?

Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time Week of February 19, 2017 Listen to the Word (Matthew 5:38 — 48) When you hear the word enemy, what or who do you think fits that definition? How do you turn the other cheek? What does that mean to you? How complete is your love for that enemy? Look into your life Question for children: What can you do at home or at school to show that you follow Jesus’ Commandments? Question for youth: Do you think Jesus was serious when he said to love your enemies? Why or why not? Question for adults: Have you ever told someone to do some-thing for his/her own well being? Do you accept God’s laws in the same spirit of love and concern? Activities for the week Take these activities to further reflect:
Have each family member share a time that his/her weapon of choice against evil was “good.” How was “good” used to conquer evil? How is Jesus’ life an example of good conquer-ing evil?
How is loving one another similar to God’s character? Dis-cuss the community found in the Triune God. God the Father, Jesus the Son and the Holy Spirit love and live as community. How is that community an example for all relationships? Why might that work so well?
Have family members relate how difficult it is to love everyone and why it is still important to do so. How does forgiveness fit into the equation?
Imitate God’s Holiness This Sunday’s readings discuss the notion of holiness: how it flows from God, is characterized by his mercy and kindness, and is learned when we imitate God by following his laws. In the Gospel, Jesus shows us how we can be holy. God is the divine master and king of the entire universe. While we know God cares for us, the entirety of his love and care for us are beyond our comprehension. We will only realize the com-pleteness of his care for us when we meet God after we die. At that time, God will judge us and we will see how he has lead us through difficul-ties and times of temptation and sin. At that time, we will know the peace that he has prepared for us. (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 314)

Mother Mary Elizabeth Lange (1784 — 1882)
La Madre María Lange fue la fundadora y primera Superiora General de las Hermanas Oblatas de la Providencia (1829-1832), la primera congregación de religiosas Afroamer-icanas en la historia de la Iglesia Católica. El 2 de julio de 1829, Isabel y otras tres mujeres profesaron sus votos y se convirtieron en las Hermanas Oblatas de la Providencia. Esta congregación educaría y evangelizaría a los afroamericanos. Educaron a la juventud y proporcionaron un hogar para los huérfanos.

Mother Mary Lange was the foundress and first Superior General of the Oblate Sisters of Providence (1829-1832), the first congregation of African American women religious in the history of the Cath-olic Church. On July 2, 1829, Elizabeth and three other women professed their vows and became the Oblate Sisters of Providence. This congregation would educate and evangelize African Ameri-cans. They educated youth and provided a home for orphans. Slaves who had been freed were educated and at times admitted into the con-gregation. They nursed the terminally ill during the cholera epidemic of 1832, sheltered the elderly, and even served as domestics at St. Mary’s Seminary. She was born Elizabeth Lange, a native of the Carib-bean, believed to be Cuban born of Haitian descent. By 1813 Providence directed her to Baltimore, Mary-land where a large community of French speaking Catholics from Haiti was established. Mother Mary Lange practiced faith to an extraordinary degree. In fact, it was her deep faith which enabled her to per-severe against all odds, in close union with Jesus, she lived through disappointment and opposition until God called her home in 1882 at the St. Frances Convent in Baltimore, Maryland.
