STEWARDSHIP BY THE BIBLE — CORRESPONSABILIDAD DE ACUERDO A LA BIBLIA

CATEQUÉSIS COMUNITARIA Y FAMILIAR — COMMUNITY AND FAMILY CATECHESIS

Do unto others as you would have them do to you Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time Week of February 24, 2019 Listen to the Word (Luke 6:27 – 38) Which line in this reading caught your ear? What sense do you get about God as you listen to this Word proclaimed today? Look into your life Question for children: Jesus tells us to treat others as we would want others to treat us. How do you treat others as you want to be treated? Question for youth: How do you follow Jesus’ teaching to “bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you? Question for adults: Jesus says, “Give, and gifts will be given to you.” When have you experienced your generosity coming back to you? Take these activities to further reflect: Provide materials for each family member to cut out a paper heart shape. Invite each family member to think of one person in their life that is difficult to deal with and write the name of the person on their heart. Perhaps it is a colleague or a classmate. Maybe it is a family member. Once everyone has written a name, pray together asking God to bless these people. Think about how you live together as a family. Talk about how your family follows Jesus’ teaching to "bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you." Write these exam-ples on a piece of paper and hang it in your home where it can serve as a reminder to always act with mercy. Jesus teaches that if we "give, gifts will be given" to us. In-vite each family member to share about a time when they were generous or did an act of service and they received gifts in return.

The Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time 24 February, 2019

Easier said than done, right? But, if we are to imitate Christ, most of us need to practice mercy and compassion more frequently. Start with the little daily annoyances that we ex-perience, the unkind word or hateful glance we receive. Instead of plotting revenge on that person, try saying a quick prayer for that person. Mercy and compassion will put us on the path to holiness.

“But rather, love your enemies and do good to them, and lend expecting nothing back.” (Luke 6:35)

(Lucas 6:35)

Next Sunday at the 8:00 a.m. Mass —Rite of Acceptance into the Order of Catechumens Next Sunday (March 3) one of our young adults will celebrate the Rite of Acceptance into the Order of Catechumens. The Rite of Acceptance is an ancient rite and a major step in the process of Christian initiation of adults, for it allows the inquirers to publicly state their intention to continue their journey of conversion to Christ. This rite also allows the community of the faithful to recog-nize first, that there are people continually wishing to come to Christ; and second, that they (the faithful) as baptized Christians have a responsibility to support and be an example to those seek-ing Christ. It also gives the community the opportunity to reflect on their own baptism and journey of faith. Following there is the out-line of the rite: Receiving the Candidates Gathering song Sign of the Cross and greeting Procession outside the Church to greet the candidates Greeting the candidates Opening dialogue asking what they seek Candidates’ acceptance of the Gospel Affirmation by sponsors and assembly and acceptance of the candidates by the Church Signing of candidates with the Cross Invitation to hear the Word of God Procession into the Church Liturgy of the Word Instruction of the Catechumens to prepare them for the Word First reading Psalm response Gospel acclamation and Gospel reading Homily Presentation of a Bible Intercessions for the Catechumens Prayer over the Catechumens Dismissal of the Catechumens Liturgy of the Eucharist
