Following on from last month we want to continue to share
our love of Málaga. Here at OCIO magazine we are very big fans of the city and have many years experience exploring all it has to offer. Whether you are on holiday, you live in the city centre, on the outskirts or are only visiting for a day or night, there is so much to do, see and enjoy.This month we look at ice skating, Three Kings celebrations and Churros with chocolate.Festive Ice Skating: Children and adults can enjoy a fun time on the ice, with a new temporary ice rink installed in Andalucia Avenue, next to the entrance of the department store El Corte Ingles.The ice rink is open from 10am to 10pm every day. It charges only 5 per person for around 30 minutes, although the timing is not so strict during quieter periods of the day. We went at about 6pm and it was very quiet, as we like it. Bear in mind that the later it gets, naturally the busier it gets. On our visit there were skating staff on the ice teaching the children to skate and to
keep the environment safe for all users.Our recommendation is to make an evening of it and head to Málaga centre to see the lights and enjoy the famous Málaga hospitality in one of the many bars, cafes or restaurants. The ice rink is 35 metres long by 15 metres wide and is open until January 9th.Three Kings: The traditional Three Kings parade is held every year in the streets of Malaga’s town centre. Kings Melchor, Gaspar and Baltasar are escorted by a dozen festive processions, musical bands and a chorus in a colourful parade in which hundreds of children and parents gather to catch the sweets and little toys that rain down on them from the floats. The Three Kings celebrations in Málaga begin at 5pm on the 5 January, when the three kings arrive at the port. Once they reach their respective floats, a child reads them n
a letter requesting presents on behalf of all the children in Malaga and the parade from the Paseo del parque to the Town Hall begins. At the end of the day, the main post office and telecommunications centre organises a festival that includes a wide variety of performers and entertainers, from singers to illusionists. This is Three Kings at it’s finest.Churros & Chocolate: Málaga has a huge choice of bars and restaurants to tempt you – many with their gas-flame heaters burning outside to keep you warm. However, if you have to drive back home later in the evening you may like to give the ‘vino and cerveza’ a miss and try the chocolate and churros instead. We can highly recommend Cafe Aranda in Calle Santos. The light, crispy churros and thick, creamy hot chocolate to dip them into are absolutely scrumptious!Afterwards, wander down Calle Larios to the main road through the centre, Alameda Principal, to see the beautifully lit trees, flower stalls and just beyond to the left, the many and varied Christmas stalls lining the route in and out of the city.

compartiendo nuestro amor por Málaga. Aquí en la revista OCIO, somos grandes aficionados a la ciudad y contamos con muchos años de experiencia explorando todo lo que tiene que ofrecer. No importa si Usted está de vacaciones, si vive en el centro o en las afueras, o solamente está de paso de día o de noche, hay mucho que hacer, ver y disfrutar.Este mes nos centramos en el patinaje sobre hielo, las festividades de los Reyes Magos y chocolate con churros.Patinaje sobre hielo: niños y adultos pueden disfrutar de unos momentos divertidos sobre hielo, con una nueva pista de hielo provisional, instalada en la Avenida Andalucía, junto a la entrada de los grandes almacenes de El Corte Inglés.La pista de patinaje abre desde las 10 de la mañana hasta las 10 de la noche, todos los días. La entrada es de solamente 5 euros por persona durante 30 minutos, aunque no se aplica tan estrictamente durante los períodos más tranquilos del día. Nosotros entramos sobre las 6 de la tarde y estaba bastante tranquila, tal como nos gusta. Hay que tener en cuenta que mientras más tarde se hace, más ocupada estará. En nuestra visita, había personal especializado enseñando a los niños cómo patinar y a mantener seguro el medioambiente a todos los usuarios.Nuestra recomendación es disfrutar de una velada, dirigirse al centro de Málaga para ver las luces navideñas y disfrutar de la famosa hospitalidad malagueña en uno de los muchos bares, cafés o restaurantes.La pista de patinaje mide 15 metros de ancho y está abierta hasta el 9 de enero. n
Los Reyes Magos: el tradicional desfile de los Reyes Magos se celebra cada año por las calles del centro de Málaga. Los Reyes Melchor, Gaspar y Baltasar son escoltados por una docena de procesiones festivas, bandas musicales y un coro como parte del abigarrado desfile en el que centenares de niños y padres se reúnen para recoger los caramelos y pequeños juguetes que llueven de las carrozas. Las celebraciones de los Reyes Magos en Málaga comienzan a las 5 de la tarde, el día 5 de enero, cuando los tres reyes llegan al puerto. Una vez que suban a sus respectivas carrozas, un niño les lee una carta solicitándoles regalos de parte de todos los niños de Málaga, y así comienza el desfile del Paseo del Parque hasta el Ayuntamiento.Al final del día, la oficina de correos principal y el centro de telecomunicaciones organizan un festival que incluyen una gran variedad de intérpretes y artistas,
desde cantantes hasta ilusionistas. Así son los tres reyes en su momento más álgido.Chocolate con churros: Málaga cuenta con un enorme surtido de bares y restaurantes con los que tentarle – muchos con sus calentadores encendidos para mantenerle con calor. Sin embargo, si tiene que conducir para volver a casa por la noche, a lo mejor prefiere reemplazar el vino y la cerveza por un chocolate con churros. Los churros ligeros y crujientes, junto con el chocolate de taza caliente, cremoso y espeso en el que mojarlos resultan ¡decididamente deliciosos!Después, a pasear por la Calle Larios hasta la carretera central que atraviesa el centro, la Alameda Principal, para contemplar los árboles hermosamente iluminados, puestos de flores y, un poco más allá a la izquierda, los muchos y variados puestos navideños que alinean la ruta de entrada y salida de la ciudad.

You don’t have to be an Eagle Scout to make a good fire in your fireplace. You just have to
use a tried and trusted method.Let us assume that you’ve had your chimney inspected and cleaned so that there’s no build-up of flammable creosote to worry about, you’ve taken the old ashes to your compost pile and your fireplace is now clean and ready to begin.Firstly, look up your chimney to make sure the damper is open. A ‘throat damper’ is located at the bottom of the chimney and will open with a lever or with chain-pulls. If you have a ‘top damper,’ it’s located at the top of the chimney (obviously) and you open it by pulling a cable.

Ensure you have already cleared the hearth of anything flammable.
Now crumple 2 or 3 sheets of newspaper and put them in your fireplace grate. The fireplace grate enables your fire to pull in the air it needs to keep a good draft going up the chimney. Put a good handful of kindling strips on top of the paper. Better yet, use some fatwood for the kindling if you have access to it. Fatwood is a natural, chemical-free part of a pine tree, cut into easy to use sticks. On top of the kindling, criss-cross 8 or 10 dry pieces of hardwood. These pieces need to be larger than kindling but not as big as logs.The next step is very important. Crumple two more sheets of newspaper and light them, holding them up inside the fireplace to warm the flue and establish an upward flow of air. Then light the paper in your fireplace grate from each end. When the paper lights the kindling, and the kindling lights the hardwood, it’s time to add 2 or 3 logs. Place the logs toward the rear of the fireplace so it will reflect heat into the room as it burns. As the fire gets established, you can add more logs. Place your fireplace screen or spark guard in front of your fire
to protect your family and home from stray sparks. With practice, you will use just enough logs so that the fire burns down to glowing embers by bedtime. It is ok to leave a fire burning out during the night but please make sure a fireplace screen is standing guard over your fireplace just in case.Here are a few good tips: Use just enough softwood for kindling to get the fire going. Burning pine for firewood quickly builds up creosote in your chimney, setting up conditions for a chimney fire. Fatwood and commercial fire starters can take the place of kindling.For logs, use dry hardwood (oak, maple, cherry, hickory or olive). The ideal firewood has dried for about one year. Don’t burn plastics or paper with colour printing, such as magazine pages or gift wrap, because

they may give off toxins. And finally, no matter what, never use flammable liquids in your fireplace.A well lit fire will add a warmth and cosiness to any room. Be safe and sensible and your fire will be enjoyed by all during the colder winter months.

madera, también conocida como fatwood, es un producto natural, sin químicos ni aditivos, extraído del tronco de los pinos. Es de fácil combustión, y se presenta comercialmente en un cómodo formato de bastoncitos. Encima, superpondremos unos cuantos troncos secos de tamaño mediano. Hecho esto, ya nos vamos acercando a la anhelada lumbre. Con un mechero o cerilla, quemaremos un par de papeles o cartones y los introduciremos arriba, de manera que se sujeten un poquito a la pira, para ir calentando el aire y que empiece a circular hacia arriba. Luego, se van encendiendo por las puntas los trozos de papel colocados debajo. El fuego se irá propagando del papel a los palos y después a los troncos. Entonces es el momento de meter los troncos más gruesos. Es conveniente ubicarlos al fondo de la chimenea para que hagan de pared reflectante e irradien más calor a la sala. Una vez hemos conseguido una candela consistente, se irá añadiendo más madera. No olvide poner la pantalla de contención o salva-chispas, para evitar que las ascuas salten y puedan provocar algún accidente doméstico.Con la práctica, iremos refinando la técnica y desperdiciando menos leña, n
manteniendo el fuego su vigor hasta la hora de irnos a la cama, en que sólo deben quedar brasas. No es recomendable dejar un fuego encendido cuando se va a dormir, por eso insistimos en la importancia de poner un protector, ya que siempre es mejor prevenir que curar.A continuación, algunos consejos útiles:Para iniciar el fuego, emplea ramas, listones y palos de madera tierna, que también pueden ser reemplazados por fastwoods y otros aceleradores de la combustión ligeros. La madera de pino genera mucha creosota, pudiendo dar lugar a la larga a incendios u obturación de la chimenea.
La leña que mejor arde es la de roble, arce, cerezo, nogal u olivo. Además, es importante que esté seca, a ser posible, al menos de un año.No quemes plásticos o papel impreso a color, como revistas o envoltorios, ya que desprenden tóxicos en el ambiente.Y, por último, nunca, bajo ningún concepto, utilices o tengas líquidos inflamables cerca de la chimenea.Un fuego confortable y duradero, aportará calidez y bienestar a cualquier hogar. Sé cauto y hazlo de forma prudente, y ten por seguro que todos se arrimarán a su abrigo en los meses más fríos del invierno.

Lake Viñuela is named after the small Andalucian white village
of Viñuela close to the point where the rivers Velez, Guaro and Seco were dammed to create this spectacular lake/reservoir. Interestingly, prior to the construction of the dam, the area was found to contain many treasures from Roman times. These were painstakingly excavated and some of the more rare items can be viewed in the Museum at Malaga. It is possible to drive almost the entire circumference of the Lake and enjoy the stunning views. As you circumnavigate the lake you will pass a number of delightful villages including Puente Don Manuel, Canillas de Aceituno, Alcaucin, Periana and Riogordo. Close by, the villages of Comares, Competa and Benamargosa are charming and should also not be missed if you are exploring the area.The lake is only15 minutes inland from the Coastal town of Torre del Mar. There is a good supply of accommodation

Many New Year resolutions include losing weight and
being healthier. There is a myth about weight loss that it is difficult (or impossible), but in reality, with a few simple changes to your diet and general eating pattern, you can begin to shed a a few kilos in no time at all. Here are a few tips to ge you started.1. Cut down on saturated fat and sugar: We all need some fat in our diet. But it’s important to pay attention to the amount and type of fat we’re eating. There are two main types of fat: saturated and unsaturated. Saturated fat is found in many foods, such as hard cheese, cakes, biscuits, sausages, cream, butter, lard and pies. This is the bad fat and should be reduced as much as possible. 2. Most people eat and drink too much sugar. Sugary foods and drinks, including alcoholic drinks, are often high in calories, and will contribute to weight gain. 3. Eat less salt: Even if you don’t add salt to your food, you may still be eating too much. About three-quarters of the salt we eat is already in the food we buy, such as breakfast cereals, soups, breads and sauces. Eating too much salt can raise your blood pressure - and that’s bad.4. Don’t skip breakfast: Some people skip breakfast because they think it will help them lose weight. In fact, research shows that eating breakfast can help people control their weight. A healthy breakfast (note the healthy part) is an important part of a balanced diet and provides some of the vitamins and minerals we need for good health. The midsize Q5 may be one of Audi’s best-selling models
but the Q7 also commands a surprising share of the pie. And to keep ahead in the growing segment, Audi is bringing major changes to the next-generation of this large crossover, including new technology, more interior room, and a much more lightweight body. Expect to see the 2016 Audi Q7 in global markets starting mid-2015.Starting off a new generation, the Q7 sheds some serious weight to get ready for the unforgiving spotlight. It is 716.5 pounds (324 kilos) lighter than its predecessor, which means it essentially got rid of a concert grand piano from its back. Audi now claims the Q7 is the lightest in its class. To achieve these savings, the automaker used high-strength steel to form the backbone of the occupant cell. And many parts of the
SUV -- including the doors, front fenders, engine hood, and rear hatch -- are made entirely of aluminum.The standard engine will be a new 3.0-litre TFSI with 333 hp and a 3.0-litre TDI diesel with 272 hp. The eight-speed Tiptronic transmission carries over, as well as quattro permanent all-wheel drive. Thanks to these new changes, the Q7 will use 26-percent less fuel on average. The Q7’s redesign includes prominent crossbars on the grille and LED DRLs shaped like a double arrow. You might also notice that the exterior is shorter and narrower than the last generation, although overall interior space has improved.Peek inside the cabin and you’ll find slightly more space between the first and second rows, as well as additional headroom. throughout Latin countries. This is the Epiphany of the church calendar, the 12th day after Christmas, when the Three Kings (Magi)arrived bearing gifts for baby Jesus. Traditionally, children receive gifts on this day, brought by the three kings, Melchor, Gaspar and Baltazar. Traditionally, January 6th, not Christmas day, is the day that children receive their gifts. However, every year the debate simmers across Spain regarding whether Santa Claus is displacing the traditional Three Kings at Christmas time. The truth is that Santa Claus is becoming more and more common for sure, especially in the tourist and cosmopolitan regions, but most Spanish families that embrace “Papa Noel” usually retain their traditions regarding the Three Kings, creating a double celebration for many families.As for the Kings themselves, they continue to arrive on schedule every year to villages, towns and cities throughout Spain to make the annual parade, which usually starts at
dusk on the 5th January, and they don’t come empty handed. As they parade about town with their entourage of locals smiling and waving from trucks, trailers, floats and whatever the local residents can muster, they dutifully toss out handfuls of sweets to the children waiting in the streets as they pass. If you take little ones to the parade, be sure to bring along bags to handle the accumulation of little treasures they will certainly want to take home.In the days preceding Three Kings Day, children write letters to the Magi requesting a toy or gift that they would like. Taking a ski trip takes on a whole new dimension as
soon as you start skiing with children but, with these simple tips, you can easily enjoy a fun, stress-free family trip to the slopes.The first tip is to compromise your expectations and the reality of skiing with children, and perhaps this is the hardest to do if you’re a keen skier yourself. Accept that you will have to make a compromise between skiing with your children on the beginner’s slopes versus your own wish to ski more challenging runs at your own pace. However, with a little careful planning it is possible to do both.The second tip is to have a plentiful supply of patience. There will be times when your children decide to be unreasonable or are just simply tired after skiing for the day. Or, when despite your best efforts, you discover that someone has mislaid an essential piece of ski gear. These challenges are minor in the wider scheme of things, so relax and go with the flow.

El primer consejo es comprometer tus expectativas con la realidad de ir a esquiar con los niños, y quizá, esta sea la parte más dura si tú mismo eres un buen esquiador. Seguramente sea lo más importante, con el fin de ayudar a que las vacaciones familiares transcurran sin problemas. Tendrás que aceptar el hecho de comprometerte a ir a esquiar con los niños en la zona de principiantes, en vez de seguir tu propio deseo de esquiar en pistas más desafiantes, y que quizá sean más de tu nivel. Sin embargo, con un poco de organización, podrás hacer ambas cosas durante el viaje.El segundo consejo es tener mucha paciencia. Habrá momentos en que tus hijos se comporten mal, o simplemente estén cansados de esquiar durante todo el día, y otros en que, a pesar de tus esfuerzos, alguien pierda una pieza imprescindible del equipo de esquí. Estos desafíos son mínimos, así que relájate y
sigue la corriente. Eso sí, las rivalidades entre hermanos no desaparecerán de forma mágica durante las vacaciones familiares, pero sí que pueden desviarse fácilmente con el esquí.El tercer consejo es organizarse. Dejar listos todos los equipos la noche antes facilitará el proceso de prepararse por la mañana. Seca la ropa húmeda o las botas de esquí por la noche, y asegúrate de que tus hijos sepan donde encontrar sus cosas.Si tus hijos están tomando clases de esquí, prepárate para irte a esquiar una vez que estén en clase. Un descanso para tomar café puede resultar tentador, pero mientras tus hijos estén en clases podrás esquiar a tu aire, así que aprovecha al máximo este tiempo.Reserva las clases de esquí de tus hijos antes de llegar a tu destino para evitar disgustos.El cuarto consejo es esquiar de acuerdo con vuestra capacidad como familia.
Si tus hijos tienen habilidades y edades distintas, dividíos en dos grupos y elige un telesilla que os lleve a un par de pistas diferentes o a una pista donde cada uno pueda esquiar a su ritmo. Quizá aquellos esquiadores más avanzados recorran la pista dos veces en el tiempo en que los principiantes la recorren por primera vez, pero no te preocupes. Todos disfrutarán intentando encontrar a lo demás o alcanzándolos. Podéis subir juntos al telesilla y sentir que de verdad estáis disfrutando del viaje en familia.Para terminar, el quinto y último consejo es regresar a casa al final del día de esquí, antes de que el más pequeño de la familia se canse. Siempre es mejor terminar el día y que los niños se queden con ganas de seguir esquiando, antes de que el cansancio se apodere de ellos. Con estos cinco sencillos consejos deberíais estar todos preparados para disfrutar de una gran escapada a la nieve en familia.
