Art, furniture and collectables can be great investments if you buy the right
pieces. Many of us are interested in the idea of collecting art, antiques or tomorrows antiques as both a source of joy in our homes and also with the hope that one day they will be worth more than we paid for them. This of course is the basic principle of investment. As I am sure you are aware, all forms of venture have their risks but art and antiques might be considered more unpredictable than most as their value is dictated by other people’s tastes. Let us consider art as an investment and how we go about maximising a return. There is no magic formula to value a piece of art, but there are certainly key factors to consider and the main one is the matter of aesthetics. This is obviously very subjective and is therefore dictated by people who have been in the business for long enough to know what they are talking about and who have an eye for such things. They come under the guise of agents, critics and dealers and their nod of approval can be the make or break of an artist. Once an artist has found an agent, this will bring him or her more exposure. Exhibitions in prestigious galleries will bring about reviews and if positive then word of mouth will catapult the artist into the limelight. As an investor it is a good idea to get in on this process as early as possible, but to bear in mind that each step reduces the risk and therefore the profit potential. higher the price his work will command. Art is a question of taste, and taste is unpredictable, illogical and is extremely personal. It is therefore very difficult to invest in something that you think people might like in the future. Much wiser, to invest in something you like right now. You will then have the benefit of enjoying your art hanging on your own walls, while waiting to cash in on your investment at a later date. Before you do this, however, you need to understand your own tastes and what you really do like. It is a good idea to visit galleries and talk to the gallery owners. Do have a budget in mind and don’t be afraid to take advice from the gallery owners, for although they will be keen to make a sale, they will have all the background details of the artist at their fingertips, and will be
able to advise you. Bear in mind the gallery owners want you to come back again and again, especially if you are a serious investor so they will be more than happy to answer your questions and help you make decisions. From your perspective as a buyer, it is important for you to find a gallery where you feel comfortable so you can visit a number of times to be sure of what you like. Whether you are looking to spend a small fortune or just a few euros, one good tip is to always buy the best you can afford. If you feel brave enough and are sure of your own taste, then in addition to the galleries there are numerous art fairs both here and throughout Europe for you to seek out your potential investment. The truly exciting world of art and collectables awaits you...happy hunting.

Porsche sells nearly as many Cayenne luxury crossovers
as 911s, Boxsters, and Caymans combined. So with the 2015 Porsche Cayenne refreshed and heading to dealers this November, we wonder...is it ready for the luxury SUV competition?Porsche has made big price hikes for the model-year 2015 Cayenne. At least for now, the naturally aspirated V-6 is gone as a base model, leaving the Cayenne Diesel as the least expensive way to step into Porsche’s best-seller. Like all 2015 Cayennes, the Cayenne Diesel gets a restyled front clip with airblades that direct air to the intercoolers. Porsche has also updated the LED rear lights, the number plate surround, the boot handle and the way the rear lights are better integrated into the boot as it lifts, though those details might better be appreciated in person.
Status-conscious Cayenne owners may be happy to know that, like the BMW X5, the Porsche now features exhaust outlets that are integrated into the rear bumper. Inside, there’s a multifunction sport steering wheel with gear shift paddles. Rear-seat ventilation is now an option. Interestingly, there’s no mention just yet of a stretched Cayenne coming onto the forecourts that could compete directly with Range Rover and other super-luxury SUVs.No longer using a V-8 engine, the 2015 Cayenne S sports an eight-speed automatic and a twin-turbo 3.6-litre V-6, both offering a fine alternatve to the outgoing V-8. The real advantages will be in the overall driving range and naturally a vastly improved fuel economy. In terms of speed (it is a Porsche after all), Porsche estimates a 0-62 mph time of 7.2

Gambas al pil-pil es una receta española clásica de gambas
picantes con aceite y ajo, servido muy caliente, con pan crujiente y un vaso de vino.Este plato rápido y fácil es una gran introducción a la cocina española. Aprovechando de tres de los ingredientes fundamentales de la cocina española – marisco de concha, aceite de oliva y ajo, el plato milenario andaluz de gambas refleja el traqueteo de las gambas al ser servidas en la mesa. Acompañado de un vaso refrigerado de vino blanco y pan crujiente para mojar la deliciosa salsa de ajada picante, este plato evoca recuerdos de mesas a la sombra en alguna plaza andaluza somnolienta, o quizás alguna terraza bordeada de palmeras con vistas al Mediterráneo.Aquí es lo que hace falta por persona: 10-12 gambas grandes peladas (sin cocer) por persona, a modo de entrante, o 15-17 para un primer plato principal ligero, 2-3 cucharadas de aceite de oliva, unos pocos tallos de perejil de hoja plana, 2 dientes de

Gambas al pil-pil is a classic Spanish recipe for spicy
prawns in oil and garlic, best served sizzling hot with crusty bread and a glass of wine.This quick and easy dish is a great introduction to Spanish cooking. Using three of the fundamental ingredients of Spanish food – shellfish, olive oil and garlic. The time-honoured Andalucían prawn dish reflects the spluttering sound of the sizzling prawns as they come to the table. Served with a chilled glass of white wine, and some crusty bread to mop up the delicious spicy garlic sauce, this dish evokes memories of shaded tables in a sleepy Andalucían plaza, or a palm-fringed terrace overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.Here´s what you need for each person: 10-12 large peeled prawns (uncooked) per person
for a starter, or 15-17 for a light main course, 2-3 tablespoons of olive oil, a few stems of flat-leaf parsley (perejil), 2 plump cloves of garlic, 2 teaspoons of paprika spice, adjust according to taste. Alternatively, if you can find it, use specially prepared pil-pil spice, sold at most Spanish street-markets on the spice stall. Most recipes omit this ingredient, but without it the dish lacks the classic colour and depth of flavour. 1 small dried hot chilli pepper, fresh, crusty bread.Method: Heat the oven to 220 degrees C.Peel, clean and de-vein the prawns. Wash them in cold water and dry thoroughly.Chop the garlic into small slices. Finely chop the parsley reserving some for the garnish. Chop the dried chilli pepper, discarding the seeds if you prefer a less fiery flavour.
When the oven comes to temperature put the olive oil into a small ovenproof dish (use one per person), and put in the oven for 3-4 minutes or until the oil starts to bubble. Remove the dish or dishes from the oven, stir in the paprika powder, chilli peppers, garlic and most of the parsley. Add the prawns, ensuring they are well coated with the mix.Return to the oven for 4-5 minutes, until the oil is bubbling vigorously and the prawns have just turned pink. Don´t overcook them as they will become rubbery. Garnish with remaining parsley, and serve immediately, still in the ovenproof dishes, while the oil is still bubbling. Serve with a well-chilled white wine and fresh crusty white bread to mop up the spicy oil.Qué aproveche! n

Modern coffee houses are quite a contrast to what
Spanish coffee houses used to be like in the late 19th century. Back then, coffee houses were the places where intellectuals, artists, poets, writers and philosophers alike, gathered. The surroundings bristled with good taste and luxurious fixtures. Then, as it still is now, cafés were places to see and be seen, although the atmosphere was more restrained, less casual and more akin to that of a fine dining restaurant. Customers were served by elegant waiters dressed in black tie.Now though, even if a person visited a café alone, it would be impossible to feel lonely. Spanish cafés are boisterous, proving to be a lively backdrop to any conversation, providing a near constant stream of hissing banging and grinding as each cup of freshly ground coffee is prepared.One of the most popular drinks at breakfast, or at any other hour in Spain is café con leche. The beverage is served by simultaneously pouring hot, dark coffee and steaming hot milk into a cup. The
preparation of the drink can be a source of anxiety for the uninitiated, seeing as how both liquids are carried to the table in giant pots balanced on the same tray. Where the weather is colder, locals prefer a carajillo to get their day started. Self-proclaimed pundits hold that coffee is second only to drinks that contain alcohol as the most popular beverage in the country.Coffee is also a mainstay during the mid morning/early afternoon break known as merienda, where café solo is a firm favourite for many. Generally, each meal is accompanied or ended with coffee, and of course, it’s needed to get started again after that 2 hour siesta. It’s also an apt way to end a day, especially after a particularly long and gruelling tapas bar crawl. At the end of a long day, a carajillo n
comes in handy to revive the spirits. Hardly anyone gets their coffee “to go”; having a coffee is an end in itself. The emphasis is on creating close social bonds, and a café is often the social hub of any given neighbourhood.In Spain, a cafe isn’t just a convenient rest stop where one orders a coffee and pastry for the simple purpose of refuelling. It’s also a place to watch passers-by, read a newspaper, think, or even make a phone call. Given that many of the cafés also serve decent food, although menu choices may be limited, it is incredibly easy to while away a few leisurely hours just dawdling over coffee like the locals do. Why else would pastries accompany the coffee if not to give a person a reason to linger a little while longer?

La preparación de la bebida puede ser una fuente de ansiedad para los primerizos, viendo como los dos líquidos son llevados a la mesa en cacharros enormes en la misma bandeja equilibrada. Donde el tiempo es mas frío, los del barrio prefieren un carajillo para empezar el día. Los autoproclamados entendidos mantienen que el café es solo secundario a bebidas que contienen alcohol como la bebida más popular del país. El café es también el pilar principal durante el descanso de media mañana y tarde conocido como la merienda donde el café solo es un gran favorito para muchos. Generalmente, cada comida es acompañada o acabada con un café y por supuesto se necesita otra vez para arrancar después de una siesta de 2 horas. También es una manera acertada para acabar el día, especialmente después de una larga y agotadora rondas de tapas. Al final de un día largo, un carajillo viene bien para subir el ánimo. Casi nadie pide el café “para llevar”; tomar un café es sentarse a tomar un café. El énfasis es
en crear un círculo social íntimo y una cafetería es muchas veces el centro social de cualquier barrio. En España una cafetería no es solamente un lugar de descanso oportuno donde uno pide un café y un bollo por el simple motivo de reponer fuerzas. Es también un sitio donde ver pasar a gente, leer el periódico, pensar o hasta incluso llamar por teléfono. Dado que muchas de las cafeterías también sirven comida decente, aunque el menú pueda ser limitado, es muy fácil pasar un buen rato sin prisa simplemente entreteniéndose con el café como lo hacen los locales. ¿Sino porque será que los bollos acompañan al café si no es para dar a una persona un motivo para entretenerse un poquito más?
Las cafeterías modernas son completamente distintas de
como eran las cafeterías a finales del siglo 19. En aquella época, las cafeterías eran los sitios donde se reunían intelectuales, artistas, poetas, escritores y filósofos. Los alrededores están repletos de buen gusto y enseres lujosos. Entonces, tal y como sigue siendo ahora, las cafeterías eran sitios para ver y dejarse ver, aunque el ambiente era mas moderado, menos informal y mas semejante a lo que es un restaurante de lujo. Los clientes eran servidos por camareros elegantes vestidos de etiqueta.Aunque ahora, incluso si una persona visita una cafetería sola seria imposible sentirse sola. Las cafeterías españolas son bulliciosas, que acaban siendo un animado telón de fondo para cualquier conversación, proporcionando un constante flujo de siseos y golpes a medida que sacan los granos de café de la maquina de café para deshacerse de ellos después de elaborar cada taza.Una de las bebidas más populares en el desayuno o a cualquier hora en España es el café con leche.
