Principal’s Report PARENT INFORMATION NIGHTS It was great to see so many parents in attendance at our first information sessions for Years 1, 2 and 3 last night. Having chatted with a number of parents, I know that you found the information valuable and appreciated our efforts to ensure that we work together in providing the best possible opportunities for your child. A number of parents commented on the how well the teachers work together and support one another. This circulating of professional knowledge and shared understanding of student needs is a critical factor in achieving the best outcomes for our children. You are reminded that information session for Years 4, 5 and 6 are tonight and for Kindergarten next Tuesday. SPORTS CAPTAINS RECOGNISED This Thursday we start our assemblies for 2015. All parents are welcome to attend the 3-6 Assembly at 2pm in the School Hall. At this assembly we will recognise our sports captains for 2015 as well as those that achieved success at the recent swimming carnival. FAREWELL This Friday we farewell Marcus Hebbard. Marcus has been our General Assistant for the past three years, and has made a significant contribution to the class- rooms, facilities and grounds in his time. We wish Marcus well as he moves to a school closer to home. A panel will be formed to select his replacement this term. SCHOOL UNIFORM Most of our students have maintained a beautiful school uniform over the last few weeks, and I thank all the students and parents who have helped keep our school looking so fantastic in uniform. Whilst I acknowledge that many classes are still getting their sports day up and running, I have noticed an increasing number of students without black school shoes. The wearing of bright sports shoes with the normal school uniform is not allowed. This is an increasing problem, especially in our senior students, those who are expected to be the role models for our younger ones. I would appreciate everyone’s support in getting our school uniform back to its best. BOYS TOILETS Today I have had a discussion with all boys from Years 1 to 6 about the state of the boys toilets. I discussed the throwing of paper balls thrown all over the walls, blocking toilets full of paper, and various other disappointing occurrences. These actions are not acceptable at school and boys need to do better when using these facilities. Can parents please assist by talking to their boys and reinforcing these messages. Thanks for your support. Wakakirri 2015

Our school would like to enter Wakakirri 2015 – Australia’s search for the best Story-Dance! Wakakirri is an annual performing arts festival for primary schools. Each year hundreds of schools across Australia perform in Professional Theatres for audiences of family, friends and the official Wakakirri ‘search’ Panel. A Wakakirri Story Dance is a 3-7 minute performance by a school that theatrically tells a story using a combination of dancing, acting and creative movement to pre-recorded music. Schools can tell any story and use any combination props, costumes and sets. Wakakirri is wonderful endeavour for schools, proven to develop student’s creative thinking, school pride, teamwork, self worth and life skills. Performing in Wakakirri is an experience students never forget. Schools spend show day rehearsing and meeting other schools and that same night walk the red carpet with the Panel Reps and perform on the big stage. Every school’s story is filmed for Wakakirri TV as part of the search for ‘Story of the Year’. Rehearsals will begin term 2 and run for 12 weeks on Tuesdays during lunchtime for any interested 3-6 students. Our school will be performing at NIDA Theatre in August. Wakakirri is a non-compulsory extra curricular activity for interested students. Participation numbers are limited and done on a first in first served basis. The total cost per student will be $100. This includes 12 rehearsals with an accredited Wakakirri specialist, costumes, makeup and performance day. Parents can buy tickets to performance day. A full colour flyer will be sent home with your child soon including online registration details. Registration must be completed by the end of Term 1, 2015.

Class Parents

The role of class parent focuses on assisting with communication (mainly by email) between the class teacher and parents of children in that class. Being on the class parent list is another way to ensure you keep in touch with what’s going on at school. Parents who register will automatically have weekly newsletters emailed to them. P&C messages will be sent directly from the P&C Executive to parents. This is to ensure everyone receives the information at the same time. To register to receive emails from class parents and school newsletters, please click on the link

Resource Fees (repeat)

Notes regarding student resource fees were sent home this week. The fees cover a range of necessary resources to support student learning. Prompt payment would be greatly appreciated. Please contact the principal if you require more time to make payments.

Arrival Time for Students

We have a number of students who have been arriving at school very early. Parents are reminded that supervision does not commence until 8.30am and any student needing to be at school before this time should be attending the Care Centre.
