From the Principal This week: Education Week Thanks for giving a Gonski! Rule of the Week Education Week We are having two opportunities during Education Week for parents to join in and see some of the outstanding teaching and learning that takes place here at our fabulous school. Our kindergarten teachers are opening up their classrooms to give demonstration lessons using the L3 method. We have been using the pedagogical method of Language, Literacy and Learning (three Ls = L3) for the second year now to teach the important skills of literacy with incredible results. We are very lucky that our own Mrs Wicks is an L3 trainer, so we get the very best. Prospective 2013 kindergarten parents will have an opportunity to see why their child should enrol at Kincumber Public School on Tuesday July 31. Parents of current students will get to see all classes engaging in a You Can Do It lesson on Thursday August 2. Teachers have invested much time and energy to deliver such a quality social and emotional learning program across the school again into our second year, with outstanding results as well. Our goal is to develop well-rounded, resilient young people who can approach learning and life with an “I can do it attitude”. Please join us from 1pm (recess). Linda will have afternoon tea yummies for sale from the canteen with complimentary tea and coffee from 1pm and at 1.30pm you are invited to head up into a classroom to see You Can Do It in action. I‟m sure you won‟t find better teaching and learning than here at Kincumber and we look forward to seeing loads of parents next Thursday afternoon. Thanks for giving a Gonski What a terrific roll-up last Tuesday morning to hear about the implications of the Gonski review of education funding and its impact on our public schools. The staffroom was filled with interested parents and children and concerned teachers. We ate yummy breakfast treats supplied by school staff and parents and shared a cuppa and a chat. Our hand was signed and posted on Tuesday afternoon and now we look forward to seeing our cardboard hand along with hundreds of others on the lawns of the Federal Parliament giving our politicians the message that lots of us give a Gonski! Teachers and students practised and talked about the following expectations that relate to our school‟s four values of Care, Courtesy, Cooperation and Commonsense. These expectations are important for the safety of students, to be prepared, ready and organised for lessons and look respectable and represent KPS to adults, visitors etc. Hope you had a great week at our great school! From the Principal This week: Education Week

Thanks for giving a Gonski!

Rule of the Week

Education Week We are having two opportunities during Education Week for

parents to join in and see some of the outstanding teaching and learning that takes place here at our fabulous school.

Our kindergarten teachers are opening up their classrooms

to give demonstration lessons using the L3 method. We have been using the pedagogical method of Language, Literacy and Learning (three Ls = L3) for the second year

now to teach the important skills of literacy with incredible results. We are very lucky that our own Mrs Wicks is an L3

trainer, so we get the very best.

Prospective 2013 kindergarten parents will have an opportunity to see why their child should enrol at Kincumber

Public School on Tuesday July 31.

Parents of current students will get to see all classes engaging in a You Can Do It lesson on Thursday August 2.

Teachers have invested much time and energy to deliver such a quality social and emotional learning program across

the school – again into our second year, with outstanding results as well. Our goal is to develop well-rounded, resilient

young people who can approach learning and life with an “I can do it attitude”.

tea and coffee from 1pm and at 1.30pm you are invited to head up into a classroom to see You Can Do It in action. I‟m

sure you won‟t find better teaching and learning than here at Kincumber and we look forward to seeing loads of

parents next Thursday afternoon.

Thanks for giving a Gonski What a terrific roll-up last Tuesday morning to hear about

the implications of the Gonski review of education funding and its impact on our public schools. The staffroom was

filled with interested parents and children and concerned

teachers. We ate yummy breakfast treats supplied by school staff and parents and shared a cuppa and a chat.

Our hand was signed and posted on Tuesday afternoon and

now we look forward to seeing our cardboard hand along

with hundreds of others on the lawns of the Federal

Parliament giving our politicians the message that lots of us

give a Gonski!

Moments at Camp 2012

My LOL Moment at camp or on the holidays was:

When Kaela, Phoebe and I capsized our canoe into the freezing cold water.

Jemma

When I went ice-skating with my family, my brother and I fell over in the

rink and I had to help him up because he was wearing skinny jeans that were

too tight. Bella

When I froze on the Rock Climbing wall and wouldn’t let go.

Peter

When Alex, Henry and Alyssa beached themselves and Jake had to rescue

them in the tinny. Nicole

When Jamie, Will and I were leading in a canoe race suddenly Mr Smith

and Danni pulled us all the way back to the start. They claimed that they

were on a special mission. Emily

When my family brought our new puppy home from the pet store he went

number ones on the floor the minute he entered the house. Jachan

When Chloe and I were paddling our canoe and our instructor was

attempting to capsize everyone’s canoe, including ours.

Georgia

When the instructor for the Giant Swing told Cody to pull the string and he

didn’t pull the string until everyone else yelled out to him to pull it. Andrew

When I was in a canoe with Alex and Alyssa we suddenly ran into a tree

then beached ourselves onto the sandbank. Alex had to climb out of the

canoe in an attempt to steer us back into the water, however, we required the

extra assistance of the boat to dislodge our canoe. Henry

When I capsized my canoe into the mud and my hair became brown from

the mud. Zac

When I capsized Danielle and Emma’s canoe because they were annoyed

with me. Sam

When a few girls went crazy over a little stingray.Jake

When Jemma and I paddled to China and back in our canoe. Sari

When I was completing my first twelve attempts at Archery I just could not

hit the target.Jackson

When we were playing a canoe game called Titanic we had to see how

many people we could fit in the canoe. After about nineteen people climbed

into the canoe it sunk. I got out of the water soaking wet only to have

Mr Smith push me back in. Rhianna

When Teagan and I had our canoe wedged in the mangroves and I became

trapped in the mud as I was trying to drag us out. Caitlin

When Georgia thought she was wedged on the Giant Swing because the

purple rope didn’t release when she pulled it. Chloe

When we were having a canoe race Sari and Jemma paddled out to one of

the islands in the middle of the water. They became stuck there and couldn’t

get back. Kaela

When Henry, Alyssa and I beached ourselves and I had to push the boat

back out into the river. Alex

When I went canoeing with Jake and Andrew we paddled past Zoe and

Qwennette who were trying to capsize the canoe to tip Mikayla out. Cody

When I kept falling off the High Rope course and couldn’t get back up. It

was funny because I was the one holding everyone else up on the course

which made us all late for lunch. Jai

On Milson Island there was a Giant Swing, all the kids had to pull me up

and on my first go I went halfway to the top then when I pulled the rope I

screamed. Anna

When my group went canoeing, Qwennette and I tried to flip our canoe over

with Mikayla screaming her head off. Zoe

When I tried to jump off my bunk bed, my jumper became caught and I

swung back into the pole next to the bed. Damien

When Mr Smith almost capsized the canoes by walking along the front of

them and fell into the water himself. Amber

On the Thursday night at camp we had a Market Night. We had a massage

stand; however, some girls took the counters and lost them. We ended up

rich again soon enough. Qwennette

When Mr Smith fell into the water as he tried to run along the front of the

boats (luckily all of our boats were joined together) then he got back into

one of the boats and threw Emily overboard. Phoebe

When Zoe and Qwennette were trying to capsize their canoe in order to flip

Mikayla into the water. Mikayla was screaming her head off, Zoe and

Qwennette were just laughing. Isobel

When Alex, Kayde and Sam fell out of their canoe because they couldn’t

empty out all of the water. Kristen When I was listening to the children’s conversation and humour as they

were supporting each other to conquer their challenges and fears. I am so

fortunate as I spend most of my time in the presence of children. Ms Kerrie
