Message from the Manager

Kevin O’Laughlin, CCM Club Manager

What an exciting time of the year. The pool is opening this Memorial weekend, tennis programs are in high gear, the golf course looks terrific and activity here at the club is steadily on the rise. This summer is packed full of exciting opportunities for you to spend time at Meridian Hills.

Don’t miss out on one of our most enjoyable adult parties of the season. This year’s Summer Social is scheduled for Saturday, June 4th from 6:30 -11:30 p.m. Outdoors on the back patios will be multiple hors d’ oeuvres stations, a 30ft bar, a great DJ, door prizes and hopefully perfect weather. Just a reminder that a-la-carte dining will not be available this evening.

Our annual MHCC Fireworks Party will be here before you know it. This year’s event is scheduled on Friday July 1, 2011 from 6:00 p.m.-11:00 p.m. For those of you who are new to Meridian Hills, and for those of you that have never attended this event before, this is our BIGGEST event of the year. We have a great cookout menu, pony rides, Jungle John, face painters, balloon artists, kiddie area and numerous inflatables, their is something for all ages. The First Impression Band will again be joining us this year for your listening and dancing pleasure, followed by a spectacular fireworks display by Zambelli International at 10:00 p.m. We look forward to another exciting celebration.

We are in the process of finishing construction and installation of twenty new Vintner’s Club wine lockers which will be located in the hallway outside Bogey’s. The Vintner’s Club program has proven to be a great value for our members, allowing for substantial discounts on wines purchased through the Club. There are a limited number of lockers still available. Please contact either Chef Miller ([email protected] or myself ([email protected]) if you are interested.

Unfortunately with the arrival of summer comes the occasional incident of vandalism in the parking lot. Please do not leave valuables of any kind in view through the windows of your cars. This includes purses, wallets, brief cases and any other item which might appeal to thieves. Also, do not leave your golf clubs unattended in the parking lot. Security and safety of our members and guest is of the utmost importance to us. Although we have video surveillance and security personnel who patrol the parking lot, periodically the vandals still manage to cause problems for us in the summer. Please be cautious!

With summer arriving, I hope all of you will take advantage of the many activities available to you here at the Club. Enjoy the summer and please let us now if you have any comments or suggestions on how we can improve our products and services. Kevin O’Laughlin Club Manager

Chairman

Convert to Golf before June 15th and Save! This is your last chance to take advantage of the program for existing Social, Clubhouse and Tennis members to convert to Resident Golf class. We’ll apply the initiation fee you’ve already paid as a credit toward the Resident Golf initiation fee of $30,000.00 and spread the payments over 10 years without interest. For those members who also are a descendant, including adopted children and stepchildren, of a current Resident Golf member, you may take advantage of this program at the Legacy Resident Golf rate of $25,000.00 with the payments spread equally over 10 years without interest. Resident Golf dues are $490.00 per month plus Hawk Project Dues of $100.00 per month. For more information or to take advantage of this program, please contact Director of Membership, Lisa Strachota, before June 15, 2011 at (317) 860-1556 or [email protected].

Tis the season for membership. The conversion program we’ve offered for existing members to transfer to Resident Golf class has exceeded our expectations, with 12 members converting to golf class. Don’t be afraid to welcome these new golfing members to your standing game. We’ve also attracted a terrific array of new members with the acceptance of 24 applications, which surpasses the number of new members we had this time last year. Please take the privilege of introducing yourself when you see new faces around the club. Our new members are wonderful people to get to know and getting acquainted will help them feel more welcome!

Although we have welcomed quite a few new members, we always need more new members to keep up with the natural attrition of members. Your introduction of friends to the Club is our best way of attracting new members. Please feel free to bring prospective members to Club events that welcome guests. If you have someone who is genuinely interested in membership, you may contact Lisa Strachota, Director of Membership, to arrange for your guests to learn more about membership and to be a guest of the Club. Many thanks to all of the members who have sponsored the new members on the following page.

Golf Update

US Open QualifierThe U.S. Open Qualifier on May 9th, held here at Meridian Hills was a success. We wanted to thank everyone for their support of this great event. The golf course held up well for a field of over 100 golfers from around the world. Only 7 players were able to break par. Leading the field was Chris Smith who shot a 67. Some of you might know Chris’s brother who is a Golf Professional at Rock Hollow. Chris has played for years on the PGA Tour.

Other players who advanced from our qualifier were: Andy Winings (68) Brownsburg, Christopher DeForset (69) New York, Brodie Williams (70) Lapel, William Sjaichudin (70) Indonesia, Henry Plager (70) Carmel, Drew Lethem (70) Kansas, and Brad Gehl (71) Carmel. These qualifiers will participate in sectionals and some of them may advance to the U.S. Open in a few weeks. The sectionals will be a 36 hole event and will take place in the upcoming weeks.

The players acknowledged a difficult test that the golf course provided. Although the course was difficult, many of the players commented on what great shape the course was in and how enjoyable it was to play. With these reviews, we are excited to host the Western Junior Boys National Championship in June 2013, at which some of the best young boys in the world will participate in. This event has been Board approved and will include some of the best young players around.

We want to thank our Board of Directors and all of the Meridian Hills family for supporting this event. It was a great way to see that Meridian Hills can handle some of the best players in the country and we are pleased that our course held up successfully.
