Whether playing host to classes, worship services, social gatherings, small group meetings or simple hallway chats before, during and after events, our building provides a place of safety, comfort and connection.

With your help this year, we can update our facility and create a space that is warm and inviting (and dry!).

Roof Renewal What if we fixed all the leaks in our roof and had it guaranteed for 25 years?

Our roof is more than 20 years old and showing signs of needing major repair. After years of patching and trying to prolong its life, we had a new roof put on the main middle section of the building this fall, as well as a section of new roof and a new drain system over part of the worship center.

Hot Drink/Juice Café What if we created a casual area where people could connect each Sabbath?

We need a place for people to chat and congregate before and after our worship services.

Worship Center, Hallway and Bathroom Updates What if we updated the look of our hallways, restrooms and worship center with new colors and artwork to create a more inviting atmosphere?

A huge THANK YOU to the New Hope church family for making Operation Christmas Child a success!

The combined efforts of our Adventurer scouting group, volunteers at last week's packing party and contributions throughout the project results in about 150 wrapped shoe boxes filled with gifts that will go to kids around the world.

This week, 8-year-old Adilynn Woods, who coordinated the project, and her family dropped off the boxes at the Operation Christmas Child Mid-Atlantic Processing Center in Jessup, Md. They will be shipped overseas in the next few weeks.

"I am so happy," Adilynn said about the project. "This was more than I ever dreamed of.

God always does what He says He will do. For Abraham and Sarah, it was the miraculous fulfillment of an amazing promise: the birth of a son to 90- and 100-year-old parents who had never been able to have a child! And he was really their child! The shame of childlessness that had haunted them for decades was finally erased.

Isaac, the name Abraham gave his son, means “he laughs.” God had told Abraham to give the child that name about a year earlier. Abraham laughed and must have thought to himself how impossible it was for old people to have children. Then when three strangers appeared and told Abraham that Sarah would have a child within a year, she laughed.

When Isaac was born, God had brought laughter to Sarah and all who knew her. In those days, any birth of a healthy child brought great joy, even more so if it was a boy. But a firstborn son, born to such elderly parents, was certainly a laughing matter. Sarah could hardly contain her happiness. Who could blame her for bursting out in laughter when she looked upon her sleeping child? Or when she looked out over the fields and saw her son running and jumping? Or when she had to wipe away tears because of a skinned knee?

Last year, I met Elsie, who always seemed to be laughing and smiling. No matter what the occasion, one could clearly see the laughter in her eyes. She lived life optimistically and joyfully. Nothing could get her down or discouraged. She found joy and laughter in the grand and simple moments of everyday life.

When she became pregnant at age 49, she and her husband laughed in disbelief, just like Abraham and Sarah did. They laughed again when she gave birth to a healthy baby boy the following year. When the baby came out of her womb, he did not cry; the sound that came out of him sounded like laughter. So they named him Isaac.

Her son brings her boundless joy and laughter. But she tells me what really causes her to laugh is witnessing God’s sense of humor. The circumstances of her son’s birth are a continual reminder that, with God, the impossible becomes possible; the unimaginable becomes real; and the unlikely becomes actual. Elsie has a heightened sense of awareness of all the “amazingly crazy things” God does for people, whether or not they recognize it. Elsie says, “God is always doing unbelievable things in people’s lives. But they just don’t see it because they don’t believe He can.” She sighs and says, “I really wish they would believe because when they really see what God can do, they won’t stop laughing.”

When was the last time you laughed at what God did?

Use these passages to better understand that all things are possible with God.

Weekly Challenge What are your impossible prayers? Have you stopped praying those prayers because God didn’t seem to answer? Perhaps it is time to write out those prayers again and put yourself out there and trust God. Remember, God is greater than the impossible.

For the Family Help your children know and understand God’s promises. Encourage them to find and highlight God’s promises in their Bible. Use a color that stands out so kids can clearly see their favorite Bible promises.
