The Sant Antoni Market building, designed by the architect Antoni Rovira i Trias and the engineer José M. Cornet i Mas in 1882, is one of the most iconic buildings in Barcelona’s Eixample district. It occupies an entire block and is shaped like a Greek cross, its geometry and dimension following that of Eixample’s alignments. The Market is located on top of the grounds near the old Sant Antoni’s bastion, meaning the area was the access to the walled city from Madrid highway, now called Mistral Avenue.
