Shoreview

On Wednesday, April 25th, we held our very first, hopefully annually, Technology Summit. There are flashier, more expensive Technology events out there, but we think we did a pretty decent job of bringing in quality speakers, with good information, for a fair price.

Thank you to Micro Control Companies for be a major sponsor of the event, and to all booth exhibitors and attendees!

Leif Knutson of Microsoft kicked off the event as the keynote speaker. The majority of his time was spent on the potential for tablets in the workplace.

Tablets in the workplace have intrigued me for awhile now. Just the other day, I was sales pitched by a person with a 3 ring binder, some nice photos, a few testimonials, and I began to think about how a tablet would completely change the presentation.

How great would it be to have a completely interactive sales presentation? I’m not talking about Power Points full of text and clip art. I’m talking about presentations that allows the potential customer to pick and choose their presentation.

For example: Testimonials are great, but typically there just a few, and you might not know who they are. What if, you had a list of testimonials, and the potential customer noticed a friend, or even a friendly competitor, and when you selected that video, the person appears and gives a personal testimonial.

Every good sales professional knows you ask customers questions and you let them lead the conversation to their “hot topics”. Does your sales presentation allow for that flexibility to happen? If your sales presentation requires your sales person to first talk about their CEO’s background, without the customer asking “Tell me a little bit about the companies background.”, you may be force feeding information the customer doesn't want, therefore losing out on potential sales.

Personally, I know that when I ask a sales person a question and I get “Well get to that in 4 pages.”, I have mentally checked out for the next 3 pages of the presentation. My question is important to me, and I want to know the answer!

Tablets can do this; by allowing you to create a conversation, not a presentation. Instead of thinking technology is killing relationship building skills and building personal walls, what if we search for ways to make us even more personable, more approachable, and more knowledgeable?
