Cliff Swanson was born and raised in Southern California. In 2003, he matriculated at Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota. There he majored in Geology and minored in Educational Studies. He also served as a resident assistant, played intercollegiate football and rugby, and spent one term abroad in Australia. Cliff completed his undergraduate studies Cum Laude in the summer of 2007.

Following graduation, he worked as a substitute teacher in Minneapolis during the school year and a summer camp residence director outside Boston during the summer. He also was active in the community, helping coach a middle school football and baseball team.

Cliff joined Micro Control Company’s Marketing department in 2011. His responsibilities include organization of tradeshows, literature design, and creation of advertising campaigns. He also serves as liaison to the Twin Cities North Chamber of Commerce by serving on the Board of Directors where his 1st term will be from 2012 - 2015. Cliff will be integral as the Chamber moves ahead with preparing a comprehensive marketing plan for the future.

Board of Directors News

I was at a certain place on Sunday morning and the message was about the craziness of our daily lives. The beep, beep, beep of our alarm clock starting the day. Then getting yourself and perhaps the family ready for the day. Traveling to work, and then feverishly working before then having to race someplace after work. Finally getting home at night and managing the household in the few hours you have left, to then finally fall into bed, before the beep, beep, beep of the alarm clock starts off another new day. The story on Sunday was told much, much better, and took much, much longer, but hopefully you got the basics of it.

It is so easy to fall into the trap of your schedule managing you vs. you managing your schedule, and then finding yourself months later wondering where the time went.

Ultimately the message was about time, talent and treasure.

Of course this got me thinking about my personal life, but then I also started to think about my Chamber life and the members within the Chamber.

Time: In the fiscal year July 2011 to June 2012 we had 2,804 attendees at 101 events, and I’m not including the 700 students at career jam. Thank you to everyone who came out and gave your time to educate or learn more about the Business Community in the Twin Cities North!

Talent: In the 2011/2012 fiscal year we also had 797 volunteers on various committees and at various events. All I can say is wow. The even better news is that the number keeps growing. We are getting better at asking for help, and finding ways to have an important role for whomever wants to share their talents.

Treasure: You’re most likely a member if you are reading this, so that means you commit to financially support the Chamber through annual membership. We have also had some very generous donations/grants made to the Chamber over the last 18 months, which has allowed us to become even better and more efficient at the value we provide our members and the entire business community.

If you support the Chamber in all 3 categories, Thank you. If you can only support the Chamber through membership/treasure, Thank you. This does not work without all of you, and we are only as strong, as a Chamber, as we are in the members supporting us.

If you are wondering how you could support the Chamber through more of your talents, let me know! The Board is working on some very great things and are/will be looking for volunteers to help both short term and long term.

I now have to run off to the next meeting!

Tim Roche
