Veiga da Princesa, Albarino, Rias Baixas, Spain 2018 100% Albarino WHITE PEACH & PASSIONFRUIT, LIME, DELICATE HERBAL SPICE Bright, medium-bodied, and bearing the Albariño grape's wonderful combination of tropical perfume and restrained yet vibrant clarity, this tantalizingly textbook example brims with zesty, ripe fruit, racy acidity, and signature seafood-companionship to pique our pinings for surf and sun (or at least some sensational ceviche tacos). Albariño takes its name from the idea that its a native of Germany (hence Alba-Riño “white of the Rhein”), but we now know it to be native to this stretch of northwestern Iberia. Serving Suggestion: Shrimp tempura & pineapple maki topped w/ lightly scorched yellowfin. Tangy, creamy cheeses w/ toasted rye or sourdough bread & dill.

Casa Los Frailes, Blanc de Trilogia, Valencia, Spain 2017 {biodynamic} Sauvignon Blanc, Muscat, Verdil ELEGANTLY TROPICAL, SPICY, EXOTIC BASIL This is a new and very limited white from Casa Los Frailes. Only 500 cases are produced each year from meticulously selected grapes, and the result is every bit as exotic and enchanting as it is rare. With bright tangy fruit reminiscent of tangerine, white peach, and mango and beautiful flourishes of basil, shea butter, and vanilla, there's no mistaking that this is truly something special. Serving Suggestion: Paella featuring squid, mussels, and lobster with saffron and paprika. Vietnamese seafood stew with thick rice noodles, basil, lemongrass, and coriander.

Domaine Gouron, Chinon Rosé, Loire Valley, France 2018 {sustainable} 100% Cabernet Franc CHERRY & CHOCOLATE! FLORAL & HERBACEOUS, PINK PEPPERY PERFUME "Nos vies dans rosé" Our lives in pink! Gouron's tiny production of beautifully dry Cabernet Franc rosé provides us with a tantalizing yearly tease. Perfumy aromas of autumnal, leafy spice and bits of chocolate make us salivate from the very first whiff and hint at the wine's sexy finesse and silky texture! A joy from the moment the cork is popped, this razory and elegant pink has all the flavorful hallmarks of Cabernet Franc, and the bright acidity lingers for minutes. We think of fruity pink peppercorns - A Wine Authorities Exclusive! Serving Suggestion: Roasted turkey with sage, thyme, and butter with lemon zest. Perfect with poached salmon.

Domaine Cady, Cremant de Loire, Middle Loire Valley, France NV {organic} 90% Chenin Blanc 10% Chardonnay ZESTY CITRUS & TANGY APPLE, FLINT, DELICATE GINGER & BISCUIT The cooler, more northerly regions of France have no shortage of vibrant, elegant sparkling wine. Here, Chenin is served well by its tendency toward mouthwatering acidity, mineralistic complexity, and refreshing flavors that manage to layer lemon and tart apple flavors with undercurrents of honey and tropical fruit. This one knows precisely the essential balance to strike between razory, lean restraint and decadent richness of flavor – a tantalizing, seductive dance on the palate. Serving Suggestion: Delicate freshwater fish w/ butter & shallot. Creamy, ash-dusted goat cheese.Oysters Rockefeller.

Domaine Magellan, Languedoc Blanc Languedoc, France, 2017 {sustainable} 60% Grenache Blanc, 40% Rousanne

RIPE NECTARINE & TROPICAL FRUIT, ZESTY WHITE PEPPER, GENTLE TOAST Full-bodied yet balancing its rich ripeness with healthy acidity, this impressive Eastern Languedoc offering carries itself like what would often be a more expensive Southern Rhone white. Time in oak barrels (utilized after a couple years’ service in Burgundy’s Beaune) has imbued a light toastiness that doesn’t detract from the extroverted tropicality or freshness and adds an extra dimension of luxury. Serving Suggestion: Triggerfish w/ avocado oil & aioli w/ onion rings. Savory, twice-fried plantains & cabbage salad w/ cilantro & orange-glazed carrot ribbons.

Domaine de la Rochette, Sauvignon de Touraine, Loire Valley, France 2018 {sustainable} 100% Sauvignon Blanc GRAPEFRUIT & LEMON PEEL, FRESH GREEN PEPPER, CLASSIC SAUVIGNON BLANC François Leclair and his son Vincent are in charge of Domaine de la Rochette, where four generations of fathers and sons have carefully tended 46 hectares of vineyards along the banks of the River Cher. Their Sauvignon Blanc is grown on flinty, clay-rich soil, which encourages an abundance of minerality in each sip. Lovers of Sauvignon Blanc from the Loire will not be disappointed in the bright grapefruit and green pepper notes and fresh, lengthy finish. Serving Suggestion: Amberjack sashimi drizzled with ponzu and topped with grapefruit segments and thinly sliced green peppers.

Dobravac Estate, Bordeaux-Style Blend "Toccata", Istria, Croatia, 2017 {sustainable} 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, 10% Teran CASSIS & RASPBERRY, MOCHA & HERB, PENCIL SHAVING What’s this? Seems like a traditional (and deftly landed) Bordeaux-style blend. But who is that mysterious stranger in the corner? That lone gunslinger is the Refosco-relative, Teran, a denizen of the Italo-Slovene borderlands and Istrian peninsula. This not-too-unlikely quartet blooms with firm black and purple fruit married to understated cedar and toast, wrangling elegance and indulgence together. Serving Suggestion: Stir fried soba noodles w/ turkey, cabbage, & soy-Bordelaise sauce. Porcini-beet risotto w/ red wine-shallot sauce & grated pecorino.

Domaine La Bouysse, Corbieres Rouge "Valensol", Languedoc, France 2017 {organic} 55% Carignan, 45% Mourvèdre BARK, SMOKED HERBS, TOASTED SESAME, MEATY There comes a point for most of us when we reach a plateau. That’s life. They don’t usually come equipped with castles or a stamp from UNESCO however, but, for Martine Pages and her brother Christophe Molinier, it did! Their plateau is called “Bouïs” and it juts out of the Corbières landscape. In the wake of this jutting rock is a region highly susceptible to drought and brush fires, which, in the world of wine, translates to unabashedly unique juice! Serving Suggestion: Roast a pork shoulder in ginger beer, spice it with yellow onions and nutmeg, and pull it over a bowl of macaroni and cheese with sharp cheddar.

Škegro Family Winery, Blatina "Krš Crni", Mostar, Bosnia & Herzegovina 2017 100% Blatina {organic}

BLACK CHERRY, ROASTED CACAO, PEPPER GALORE! Relatively unknown, Blatina is the workhorse red grape of Herzegovina. The Bosnians have found an ingenious work-around, co-planting Blatina with other varieties that flower concurrently. Bariša Škegro and company deliver us a glass chock-full of pepper spice, hitting every color on the flavor wheel. A touch of chocolate and black cherry round out the cuvée. Looking to quit your office job? Turn the bottle around for reason #462.

Serving Suggestions: With all that pepper, this one is screaming for lamb. Classic grilled chops w/ thyme & rosemary or regionally significant cevapi (lamb kebabs w/ raw onion.)

Gutierrez de la Vega, "Viña Ulises," Alicante, Spain 2017 {sustainable} 60% Garnacha, 40% Monastrell GLEAMING VIOLET-BLACK FRUIT, ZESTY TANNIN, BEAUTIFULLY BALANCED Hailing from southeastern Spain’s Alicante, this blend of Garnacha and Monastrell represents a lithe outing from a region often pigeonholed for rusticity and overripeness. Felipe & Pilar Gutiérrez have crafted wine in this coastal Levant enclave for almost half a century, employing labor-intensive working methods that blur the lines between forward-thinking and what one wishes were timeless common sense, always in pursuit of quality and deftly finding their mark. Serving Suggestion: Grilled guinea hen thighs w/ berbere/chipotle rub & split pea/potato stew. Autumnal root vegetable paella of parsnips, butternut squash, & carrots w/ saffron, olives, & garlic.

Domaine Forca Real, Cotes-du-Roussillon-Villages Rouge "Schistes", Roussillon, France, 2015 90% Grenache, 10% Syrah DENSE BLACK RASPBERRY & KIRSCH, GARRIGUES Hailing from this stretch of Mediterranean France closest to the Spanish birthplace of Garnacha, this opaquely obsidian offering showcases the variety. Força Réal, a Roussillon producer which takes its name from an imposing mount that towers high above the rugged countryside, crafts beautiful wines, and this one exists somewhat between worlds, recalling both Rhone-ish, Languedoc-ian, French fare and the specialties of Spain’s Catalonia like Priorat and Montsant. Grenache-i-mus maximus.... Serving Suggestion: Mutton sausage w/ fennel & coriander. Saffron risotto w/ sheep’s milk cheese.

Domaine Jacky Piret, Beaujolais "La Combe", Beaujolais, France, 2016 {organic} 100% Gamay VIOLETS, RED BERRY, RED CHERRY, PEPPERY Jacky & Frédérique Piret have been our wine heroes for years. Their affable La Combe Beaujolais is produced from 50 year old vines. Three generations of family winemaking, hand harvesting, sustainable agriculture and old world character. Does it get any better at this price? Pinot and Burgundy fans will rejoice at the soft Gamay texture with strawberry and cherry fruit with light minerals from the clay soils. Lime and vanilla on the nose with a medium body. Serving Suggestion: Perfect with leaner meats like pork tenderloin with black pepper and rosemary crust; or meatier fish dishes like grouper or halibut in a lime.
