Dear Members

I hope that you enjoy reading our new look national magazine. I can’t believe that the first quarter of 2013 has already flown by, but time moving so quickly really shows how important it is to move forward with our goals. I have been so impressed when travelling around the local chambers with some of the events and projects that you are running but also by the passion and energy that you all have. The amazing awards ceremony that we had in Belfast last year was a fantastic way to celebrate your achievements and also highlighted to me that we all need to do even more to highlight all of the great work that you are doing and share best practice with other chambers.

Last year JCI UK was the proud recipient of a Queen’s award for volunteering, the highest honour to be bestowed upon voluntary organisations. On 29th May 2013 Immediate Past President Solveig Malvik and I have been invited to meet the Queen at St James’ Palace at an event to celebrate 10 years of these awards. This has been recognition for all of the hard work of every single one of our members and we will be so proud to attend the palace on behalf of you all. I believe that with this award comes great responsibility as we need to constantly prove that we deserve such recognition by pushing ourselves to think bigger and be bolder with our plans and projects. Following on from the huge success of the Olympics last year, volunteering has never been as high on the agenda as it in the UK now and JCI should be the organisation of choice for would be volunteers to make a difference in their local communities whilst developing their own skills at the same time.

I am sure that the rest of this year will be just as positive as the start has been and I look forward to attending further events with you all and hearing about the impact that you have been having in your towns and cities. In an age where people’s lives are increasingly busy it should not be underestimated how amazing it is that you all find time to commit to making a difference and being more active members of your local community.

If your JCI Journey is anything like my own then I know that you will continue to develop as a person and learn new skills every step of the way.

We are still on a high after being one of only 60 recipients of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Volunteering Award in 2012. This award is the highest standard of recognition given to volunteer groups across the UK and we were recognised for the wide range of initiatives that we have undertaken over the year. This ranges from projects including the launch of a training and apprenticeship academy for young people in Southampton in conjunction with Costa Coffee to the Leadership Excellence in Action Programme that was launched in August, amongst others.

So we want to say THANK YOU to all our members, senators, patrons, corporate supporters and friends! It is those who give their time to make a real difference in the communities in which they live and gain valuable skills and experience along the way that have made this happen!Special thanks also go to JCI Senator Tracy Viner from the Cathedral Archer Project and Wayne Clark,

National Awards in Belfast The 2012 National Convention and awards ceremony hosted by JCI Belfast was a superb event. Held in the Titanic Belfast centre with a replica of the iconic Titanic staircase taking centre stage. The night was a massive success for JCI local chambers from all around the United Kingdom.

There were some great surprises too. Emma Eastwood this year’s National President was asked to make a special announcement and provided with a pre-prepared speech which led to her announcing her very own JCI senator-ship and two more senators were made shortly afterwards, Jen Little of JCI Cambridge and Steven Vandevelde of JCI Sheffield.

the very best projects, members, chambers and to name just a few JCI Southampton picked up the award for Most Outstanding Millennium Development Goal Project for their apprenticeship scheme with Costa Coffee, Harriet Bastiani of JCI Cambridge collected a hugely coveted award of Most Outstanding Member and JCI Sheffield

won the Most Outstanding Local Community Empowerment Programme.

Our ‘big weekend’ attracts JCI members from across the UKJCI Cambridge proudly hosted its first national event on 26th and 27th January 2013Members from all over the country and abroad congregated in the lavish grounds of Jesus College for what was indeed a very inspirational weekend.

The journey started with a warm welcome by JCI UK National President, Emma Eastwood on Saturday 26 January. Starting with a roundup of 2012, she introduced the theme for 2013, “Inspiring Action”.

The year has barely started but JCI members were not wasting any time to start making positive change. Over 30 members participated in the £1 a day challenge in January. It consisted of only spending £1 a day on food for a week and donating the normal weekly expenditure to charity. The goal was to raise awareness of poverty and food wastage in the UK.

Community director Soraya Bowen presented an interactive activity session to illustrate the various projects that can be implemented in UK chambers. Projects included raising awareness and taking actions on issues such as environmental sustainability, combatting malaria, HIV, AIDS, reducing child mortality and more. This could indeed be another busy year for JCI, with plenty of opportunities for members to get involved with.

There were various presentations on upcoming events, such as the European Convention in Monte Carlo this May, the Marketing Academy in Birmingham in February, JCI LEAP in August and the World Conference in Rio this November.

Keynote speaker, Miami-based Patrick Knight, gave an interesting talk on how to jump start a chamber. He shared tips and techniques based on his experience as past president of JCI Coconut Grove. He spoke about best practices on how to effectively communicate the essence of JCI when recruiting new members. In his view, projects should be looked at as an opportunity to create experiences to engage and give more value to our JCI members.

Following lunch, Patrick Knight came back on stage again to share his incredible survival story. In 2009, his brother-in-law shot members of his own family after a Thanksgiving dinner. Among the casualties was Patrick’s pregnant wife. Patrick’s injuries left him in a coma for three months. He then began a journey of recovery which required him to learn to do everything again, even swallowing. The atmosphere in the room was charged with emotion and admiration. Patrick said “It might not always be possible to move on from negative experiences, but we can move forward with life. Those experiences can be looked upon as a “medal” rather than an “anchor” that will eventually drag or slow us down.” He emphasised developing a positive mental attitude and a determination to overcome daily challenges. His book, “Blessed to Survive”, contains more advice on how to survive a catastrophe.

The scenery throughout dinner was one of laughter, with awards being handed out whilst enjoying gorgeous food and drinks. Patrick McCrae delighted us with his final speech as JCI Cambridge president and introduced James Mitchell as 2013 president.Many attendees took their beautiful frocks to the dance floor at Lola Lo’s and partied through to the small hours.

Sunday morning brought with it the

start of Business Skills Day. On the menu, a choice of two events from Patrick Knight, Garin Rouch, Marcus Orlovsky and Jon Luckhurst - and what a tough choice it was!

Garin Rouch led an interactive session on how to build better relationships using tools such as “influence” maps and the six principles of influence. Marcus Orlovsky encouraged us to look at the world using a different lens. He used his own experience as an example of how to identify problems within our society and develop solutions that are innovative. Jon Luckhurst talked about how to overcome challenges in today’s work environment. Patrick Knight talked about “Positive Seduction”, which covered how we come across during interviews, networking events or sales pitch.

Members left feeling empowered and ready to make a positive change in their life.

JCI Charity news

A total of £200 was raised for Cam Mind, JCI Cambridge’s charity for 2013. Last year’s charity, Arthur Rank Hospice was presented with a cheque for £2,400 which was raised during 2012 by JCI

Cambridge members.

The 2013 Marketing Academy was an amazing success selling out within just a couple of weeks. The academy was hosted in Birmingham at the offices of law firm Irwin Mitchell (IM). The delegates from JCI chambers all around the UK and Europe watch, listen and do ‘marketing’. The two day intensive training programme is especially developed to help members and their local teams effectively market and promote their chambers with the intention of building their reputation and attracting new members, but the skills they learn are transferable to their working life too.

Kate Senter, JCI UK’s Deputy National President and IM’s Internal Communications Manager said: “JCI UK really appreciates the support that businesses, such as IM, provide to our voluntary organisation. At IM, we have a long history of supporting JCI, with a number of Partners having been members of the organisation in the past and a number of current JCI members coming from IM offices such as Manchester and Sheffield.”

Members of JCI Sheffield celebrated twinning with their counterparts in Mayo by taking part in the Irish county’s St Patrick’s Day parade.

This is the first time JCI Sheffield have twinned with another chamber and in recognition of this historic first, local officials in County Mayo invited JCI Sheffield to take part in one of the most important events in the Irish calendar.

Vicky Bulman, JCI Sheffield International Director explained “The trip has been invaluable, giving us time to develop relationships between the two chambers and individual members. Our motto is “Twinning

is Winning” and this visit has confirmed the importance of building international bonds.

Derek Reilly, 2012 President of JCI Mayo said “Having JCI Sheffield here in County Mayo on St Patrick’s Day was a fantastic experience. Everyone had a lot of fun taking part in the parade and we’re proud to have such a long established chamber as our official twin.”

To commemorate the visit, JCI Sheffield presented a gift of an engraved pewter tankard to highlight the city’s industrial heritage.

A return visit is planned for July, when JCI Mayo will experience Sheffield’s Tramlines festival and be received by Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg and the Lord Mayor of Sheffield.

Young People Fly The Flag For Sheffield In County Mayo

If there is ever a time seek out those people in your community that go above and beyond to create real change and make the world a better place to live then it is now. Nominations are open until 30th April 2013 for the annual Ten Outstanding Young Persons (TOYP) award.

JCI UK has nominated several people over the last few years in 2010 we had two winners Emily Cummins nominated by JCI Bradford and Sabirul Islam nominated by JCI London.

Last year JCI London added two more to that

list Bobby Kensah and Katherine Sparkes.

Running a local TOYP event may be an opportunity for your chamber to engage members, promote JCI to the business community and stage an event which catapults your chamber’s popularity and success. It may be a little late to run an event this year but you should consider planning to host one early next year. Do you know an outstanding young person?

A brand new opportunity for the South’s jobless youngsters has been created with the opening of the UK’s first Costa Academy in Southampton High Street. Southampton Test MP Alan Whitehead and Southampton’s Mayor officiated the opening.

Above Costa’s High Street store the new Academy, which cost £29,000 to set up, is a joint project between Costa and JCI Southampton, which was successful in winning a £9,000 lottery grant to help fund the project.

Youth unemployment is a disheartening casualty of the current economic conditions.

Michael Steel, learning and development consultant for Costa says: “We are

committed to helping and supporting local communities where our stores are situated...In partnership with JCI Southampton, our Academy will give development opportunities to young people currently not available anywhere else in the UK. We are thrilled to begin this next phase to our learning & development vision for our business, our staff and our communities.”

Drew Charman of JCI Southampton commented: “I am truly excited that JCI Southampton is able to partner Costa Coffee in providing this valuable asset to the city and its workforce. This is the latest initiative that we have launched to help promote the personal and professional development of young people in the city, and also to serve the wider community itself. All new apprentices will not only benefit from the academy but will also have the opportunity to join JCI and gain access to the wide network of young professional members and business partner organisations both in Southampton and across

the UK.”

The Costa Apprenticeship offers apprentices, typically 16 -18 year olds often from disadvantaged backgrounds, the chance to equip themselves with the valuable life skills needed to secure future employment.

The JCI UK National Board held their last meeting in Southampton using the training room and were very impressed with the project and its impact on helping young people. We met and heard from several young people who had gone through the academy and one young lady had within eight months of starting with the company excelled to position of Store Manager.

In December 2012 JCI Southampton won a JCI UK Award for Best Local Millennium Development Goal project with this partnership.

Guide Dogs are JCI Reading’s charity of the year for 2012/13 and we are currently working towards raising £5,000 to name our very own Guide Dogs puppy. We’re hoping to name our puppy, “Jaycee” - after the JCI members worldwide.

As part of our Guide Dogs fundraising strategy for the first quarter of the year, I convinced my partner, Dan and his brother, Gavin to sign up with me to train

and compete in “The Nuts Challenge” in March. The Nuts Challenge takes place on an assault course run by ex-parachute regiment soldiers and is one of the most challenging military assault courses in the world....designed to test the fittest athletes!

I’m definitely not a fan of exercising so this was a true challenge for me. Nevertheless, from the 1st January this year, I decided to take up running, going to the gym and swimming, which I must confess is now my new favourite sport!

My aim was to raise £500 for Guide Dogs before the challenge on 2nd March, however we have now raised a massive £1000!

The race was one of the toughest things I have ever done but a fantastic challenge. Furthermore, I really couldn’t have asked for a better team with Dan and Gavin. We supported each other throughout the training as well as during the challenge – providing words of encouragement every step of the way. We completed the assault course in just over two hours which, we were told,

is pretty good for first-timers.

World Malaria Day World Malaria Day is on 25th April each year and gives members the opportunity to raise awareness of malaria and fundraise for this worthy cause. This year’s theme is ‘’Achieving Progress and Impact’’ so how will you be making an impact on April 25th?

JCI is one of the biggest global partners in this campaign against malaria and has so far donated over $750,000 to the cause. As an organisation we plan to send 1 million nets by 2015 and it looks like we may just do that.

It’s a Sell Out!This year’s European Conference is in the glamorous city of Monaco, just days after the world renowned F1 Grand Prix. However, it has now been confirmed that the conference has sold out.

JCI Monaco founded in 1963 is hosting the conference. In almost half a century of existence, the organisation has gained considerable recognition in the Principality of Monaco and aboard, upholding JCI values and helping enhance the role of young people in the community, as active citizens.

There are also opportunities to book once in a lifetime experiences such as a F1 pre-tour for the 71st Monaco Grand Prix, or a helicopter ride from the airport into the city of Monaco!

47 nets alreadyWhat an amazing start to the year. JCI UK has raised enough money to purchase 47 bed nets for the United Nations ‘Nothing But Nets’ campaign so far. Each bed net can provide a safe environment for a family of four to sleep with the peace of mind that they will not be infected with malaria. Our target this year is to purchase 450 bed nets with a potential of protecting 1800 lives.

Congratulations to all those chambers who have taken part in fundraising for the campaign so far.

Our first JCI Presenter course of 2013 will be held in Sheffield on Saturday 18th May. If you have not attended this course before it is definitely not one to be missed!

Presenter is a full day Effective Presentation Course that focuses on the concepts of creating and delivering an effective presentation, utilizing visual aids and strong delivery methods with a mind towards understanding the audience. The course gives participants the opportunity throughout the day to practice their presentation skills and put into play the skills that they have learnt from the theory side of the day. This course will teach you how to: •create a persuasive, effective presentation•create a dynamic, powerful presence•infuse presentations with engaging and powerful content•gain confidence when communicating with others

The aim of the 2013 Active Citizenship Summit (ACS) is to help JCI members across the UK get involved in the public discourse. To understand how we can use the JCI Active Citizenship Framework to assess local needs, create action plans and review results, understand the what and how of national and local government and how we best can use PR and social media to obtain our goals.

Saturday will be dedicated to understanding how national and local government works, are structured and prioritise. We will hear from experts in civil engagement, meet out-standing lobbyist and learn from those involved about what the government priorities are at the moment.

The Active Citizenship Framework is a framework to help us understand the needs of our local communities.

Shadowing an MP is part of the ACS programme. Participants are encouraged to get in touch with their local MPs in order to shadow the MP on Monday 13th May from 10:00 until 15:00. The organising committee will support this by providing among other things letters that can be used to contact the MP.

We will learn how to use PR and social media to support our goals as active citizens. In addition there will be social activities, from dinner on Saturday night and a BBQ with the local Deputy Mayor on Sunday. Book now at:www.activecitizenshipsummit.org.uk

JCI UK is proud to present ‘LEAP’ our Leadership Excellence in Action Programme for its second year.

The Leadership Excellence in Action Programme (LEAP) started out as a concept I had at the end of 2011 following my year as Personal Development Director for JCI Sheffield.

Objective:“To equip young people with the skills they need to provide development opportunities to create positive change”

In that the first year we would deliver a pilot programme to develop the training content, the framework, gain tangible feedback from those attending and establish the team to continue the programme into the following year.

The national board were supportive of the vision and I established a project team of senators and members from across the UK. A series of meetings and workshops were run to deliver the course content, marketing materials and arrangements for the pilot programme.

LEAP took place in Sheffield on 21st September 2012 with training running from Friday through to Sunday. It was attended by 18 delegates from six chambers with five JCI UK and two JCI Netherlands trainers delivering training.

All delegates graduated the programme and feedback taken from them to help improve the programme for 2013. I can safely say everyone left the weekend feeling fully inspired to take action!!

It’s great to see that many of the graduates of LEAP have now gone on to take on role on their local council teams and the project team.

James Mitchell of JCI Cambridge who used the training as a springboard to taking on the 2013 President role said “LEAP was the best training course I attended in 2012, the quality of the training provided was excellent and the activities I was involved in were well thought out. Its amazing value for money and I highly recommend this course to anyone keen to develop in JCI and as a Leader.”

The weekend offers delegates the chance to learn about their personal leadership styles and how to run an effective organisation along with leading and motivating a team.

was one of the key learning points for Katie Jackson from JCI Sheffield who went on to become Deputy Marketing Director for JCI UK

This year we are aiming to run LEAP with 40 delegates and introduce outdoor activities to the programme, all in all its set to be a fantastic second year!

The Leadership Excellence in Action Programme this year runs from Friday 30th August to Sunday 1st September 2013 at The Holiday Inn Express,

Sheffield.

Personal development is one of the core areas of opportunity offered within JCI and we believe in developing the leadership skills of our members, we will give them the confidence and authority to make a real

difference in their business, their community and their personal life.

Whether you are working for yourself, working for some-one else or looking to take on a role within your local chamber, you will undoubt-edly need to lead others. Over the course of the weekend you will be given the opportunity to develop your skills and pick up the tools required to become an inspirational leader who can create positive change!

National Convention – Leeds We are happy to announce that our JCI UK National Convention will this year be held in Leeds organised by the JCI Leeds Conference Team. The highlight of the event is a gala dinner and awards ceremony on the Saturday night, but there will be training events, keynote speakers, competitions and all sorts of fun stuff from Friday afternoon to Sunday morning.The convention will run from Friday 22nd November until Sunday 24th November at Oulton Hall, a stunning 18th century former family man-sion with beautifully land-scaped gardens, imposing statues, sweeping spiral staircases and a state-of-the-art spa, surrounded by a 27 hole golf course.

JCI Birmingham hosted a successful launch event on Thursday 14th March where an encouraging 30 people attended the evening.

Held at the new offices of BPP Professional Education located within Birmingham central’s business district, in their specially designed innovative Vanta Centre, this provided an excellent setting for the presentations and was followed by an enjoyable networking opportunity over refreshments.

JCI UK National President, Emma Eastwood, travelled from Leeds for the event to support the local organising team of Kirstie Barnett, JCI Birmingham President, Kay Purser and Colin Lawrence-Waterhouse. Four local JCI Senators were also there to support the Chamber and learn more about the chamber’s plans for 2013.

The evening started with Kirstie Barnett welcoming everyone and speaking about JCI Birmingham. We had three presentations following Kirstie. Firstly, Emma Eastwood spoke about the opportunities JCI offers to young people and a JCI UK video was shown. Barry Hall, Managing Director of the BPP offices in Birmingham gave some background to the new space and building recently developed and how they got involved in a partnership with JCI Birmingham.

Lastly, Georgina Moseley, Chairman of Help Harry Help Others (HHHO) charity spoke about the fundraising activities of the local charity and the

on-going legacy of Harry Moseley who tragically passed away in 2011 at the age of just 11 after suffering from an inoperable brain tumour. A heart-warming video of inspirational young Harry brought a few tears to people’s eyes and highlighted just what a great JCI member Harry would have been.

Following the presentations, refreshments were enjoyed over positive conversations between attendees and a real buzz was felt throughout the evening. A total of £57 was raised as a result of selling HHHO bracelets on the night to help support the charity.

Kirstie Barnett, JCI Birmingham President, said of the event: “It was a great event with such energy in the room and fantastic to have five new members by the end of the night. We are looking forward to developing the Chamber through welcoming our new members and offering them opportunities to develop their skills and expand their circle of friends. Rest assured JCI Birmingham is back on the map!”

Pathwaysto Active Citizenship

JCI UK has recently launched a new programme called “Pathways to Active Citizenship”. The programme is designed to guide new members through the varied opportunities offered as part of their JCI membership. It has been designed to help members to get involved as quickly as possible and really make the most out of their membership. There are three levels of achievement on the scheme:

Active Membership – completion of a set number of events/activities from the Active Membership Pathway (or any of the other “Pathways” if appropriate) as agreed with your Local President/Membership Director.

Active Pathways – completion of a number of activities from any of the pathways to become certified in that area, as agreed with your Local President/Membership Director.

Active Citizenship – Once you have achieved the active membership award plus two other active pathways, you will be eligible for the active citizenship award, which is signed off by National Board.

If you would like to get involved speak with your local President or Membership Director to find out more and together you can decide on the activities that you would like to undertake.

Back in Brum

Active Citizen Experience (ACE) is the new award programme from JCI United Kingdom that recognises JCI members volunteering their time, both inside and outside of JCI and in their local community.

To get involved you just have to log your volunteering hours each month and submit your form to the JCI UK Community Director.

Once your project or activity is complete, the JCI UK Community Director will get in touch with you in order to complete a project summary.

JCI members will be awarded Gold, Silver or Bronze certificates according to the number of hours logged before the JCI UK National Convention, usually held at the end of November each year.

Gold 30 hours

Silver 20 hours

Bronze 10 hours

£1-a-day for Save the Children In January we saw over 35 of our members taking part in the £1 a day challenge for Save the Children. The challenge was for members to live on just £1 per day to help to raise awareness for children from around the world that have to live on a similar amount every day of their lives.

Katie Ogley, £1 a day Project Manager said “I must say, it has been a bigger success than I could have ever imagined! Not only did we raise a fantastic amount of money, but we also raised huge amounts of awareness. Leading up to the event it was difficult to go onto a social media site or read the local press without hearing about the £1 a day challenge!”

At Inspiration Day in January we were fortunate enough to have Ruth Hockaday (a representative from Save the Children) attend so that we could present the cheque of £1,423 (which was 76% above target!) that had been raised during the campaign. Since the presentation we have still been receiving donations and the total currently stands at £1,763.

Everybody should be really proud of what was achieved during that week and the campaign brought a lot of ‘firsts’ to JCI UK with Text Giving and celebrities retweeting our hash tag!

JCI Liverpool LaunchKai Graf Pahlen, President of JCI Liverpool and his team put on a fine afternoon launch party in the centre of Liverpool on Thursday 21st March 2013.

There were around 60 people who attended the event and several guest speakers who spoke about the future of Liverpool. JCI Senator, Ossie Omar shared his experiences of being a member of JCI Liverpool especially his involvement in the Lord Mayor’s Parade something that JCI Liverpool had an excellent reputation for organising in the past.

Economic development company Liverpool Vision are eager to support JCI Liverpool and are currently developing joint initiatives to ensure JCI Liverpool’s members take full advantage of the opportunities that Liverpool’s International Festival for Business 2014 will create. Liverpool Vision’s business development manager, Lisa Ashby said: “The launch of JCI Liverpool brings another element to the city’s offer and business community because they are an organisation which supports the development of our future leaders.

“With the International Festival for Business on the horizon, the young professionals of Liverpool at JCI have the opportunity to shout about their successes and continue to grow professionally and commercially and take the next steps to realising their potential.”

JCI Manchester created a great buzz and vibrancy around Manchester, with an new members event titled: Spring Break.

It was a great success, it sold out within 6 hours of going live and they had to create a waiting list. They had great sponsorship from JMW Solicitors LLP, Irwin Mitchell and ConvergeOne.

The event itself had in excess of 140 young professionals, having a great time and learning lots about JCI.

JCI UK and AIESEC have joined forces to promote our organisations to each other’s members as well as provide access to events and activities.

Tens of thousands of students and recent graduates, each year, in over 100 countries manage AIESEC which facilitates tens of thousands of international exchanges so that young people may experience and understand cultures other than their own.

Our partnership should bring opportunities for introductions to potential members as well as employers who can take placements.

You should look up your local AIESEC group, make contact and explore ways in which your chamber and AIESEC can collaborate.

JCI and AIESEC have similar aims to develop young people and make an impact on the world. With this in mind there could be many areas in which our organisations can work on projects together.

This year AIESEC are celebrating their 60th Anniversary.

At the biggest event in the JCI calender the JCI World Congress in Taipei was an incredible event that will be remembered by Soraya Bowen of JCI London not just because it was such an amazing success but Soraya collected one of the most coveted awards for being the most outstanding

‘NEW’ member. Yes, Soraya’s JCI journey only started a couple of years ago and she has had to progress through the JCI UK National Awards, the JCI European Awards and now the JCI World Awards - where will she go next?

On Saturday 23 March, JCI Portsmouth took over The Rainbow Centre to host an Easter Egg Hunt for the children of the centre and their siblings. The Rainbow Centre help children and adults with neurological disorders such as Cerebral Palsy and MS learn to develop their coordination through a method called Conductive Education. After months of preparation it all came together with some help from local sponsors SBA Financial and Tesco and JCI Portsmouth members. Members were asked to bring along a chocolate Easter egg to the March training event as donations to be presented to the children after the egg hunt. Tesco very kindly donated £50 to help purchase supplies such as plastic fillable eggs, arts and crafts items and cupcakes and squash. SBA Financial was our Easter bunny sponsor.

On the morning of the event, while the weather was a bit dubious,

our dedicated members arrived to assemble plastic eggs for the hunt and more importantly hide the eggs in The Rainbow Centre’s back garden. While the centre students were busy working on refining their motor skills, JCI Portsmouth members were decorating bags with their siblings to collect their egg hunt treasures. The Rainbow Centre children were then ready for the hunt to begin. With a 60 second head start over their siblings, the children were not about to let any disability slow them down. There were brightly coloured Easter eggs and chocolate bunnies to be discovered in The Rainbow Centre garden.

After the garden was scoured for any remaining Easter gems we retired to the activities room for some Easter themes cupcakes and squash, as if the children didn’t have enough sugar. The children were in for a surprise when the Easter bunny made

an appearance with baskets full of chocolate Easter eggs. One lucky little girl, Eleanor, scored a One Direction Easter egg which was the highlight of her day.

A parent shared with The Rainbow Centre staff that this was the best Easter egg hunt they had ever been to. What a success!!
