JCI UC’s Family Day Cookout

July 2015 UPCOMING EVENTS

Introduction Dear guest, members, and senators,

By means of this newsletter we would like to share

with you all that the organization of JCI UC has been

and will be doing throughout the course of this year.

This is the fourth edition of our bulletin named after

U-C US, which is a combination of our name and

slogan “JCI U-C US CREATING POSITIVE CHANGE. It is

the intention to distribute a newssheet on a bi-

monthly basis. In case you missed out one of our

events, meetings, or trainings you will be able to

easily catch up thanks to this new initiative.

This year is another great opportunity to continue

with the JCI movement by creating even greater

impact within our community, as well as

internationally, and hopefully around the world.

Hence we cannot stop investing in ourselves. To

become day by day a better leader than yesterday

we certainly believe that one must:

LEARN AND LEAD

“U-C US

creating positive

change.”

Vision

To be the leading global network of young active

citizens.

Mission

To provide development opportunities that

empower young people to create positive change.

Values

We believe…

That faith in God gives meaning and purpose to

human life,

That the brotherhood of man transcends the

sovereignty of nations,

That economic justice can best be won by free men

through free enterprise,

That government should be of laws rather than of

men,

That earth’s great treasure lies in human

personality,

And that service to humanity is the best work of life.

“Everyone has a vision they just

have to identify it.”

GMM May 2015 On the 28th of May, 2015 we held our fifth

General Membership Meeting in the White

Room at Floris Suite Hotel. The time of our UC

Ban Topa’s were adjusted and set for 19:30.

This will give members the opportunity to

interact with each other, especially our guests.

This evening was special since our 2015

National President Maharo Isenia had his

official visit. He partook in the meeting seated

next to our beloved Madam President Silvetty

de la Paz.

UC Spotlight

UC Spotlight is the recent approach to

acknowledge our member’s efforts put into all

of our projects and activities to further

encourage them to continue with the excellent

job done and that their hard work will not go

unnoticed. Hence, the May UC Spotlight goes

to member Naesha Zunder.

Other Businesses

Our President extended her support to the

Immediate Past President Melissa Corea

throughout the new journey she is about to

take as a trainer. On behalf of UC Madam

President wish her all the best and

acknowledge her potential to make it

successfully in her new career path.

State

Of Mind

Our National President gave an exciting

presentation regarding the different

levels of consciousness as well as the

locus of control theory.

This was surely a thought-provoking

presentation. And really triggers to look

deeper into it in case you want to start

implementing these theories.

Furthermore, he spoke about six

important life aspects: Faith, Trust,

Hope, Confidence, Love, and Attitude.

The assembly made this session very

interactive by sharing their own life

experiences.

Health

Awareness Day

JCI UC presents:

On a beautiful Saturday morning dated the 6th of June, 2015 we held – in collaboration with CrossFit Willemstad – a sporty and healthy day at Seru Loraweg.

In connection with JCI’s 100 years celebration this event aim was to reach out to 100 participants and at the same time to promote and create awareness of a healthy lifestyle.

In order to make the latter sustainable participants received a workshop by nutritionist/dietist, Rachna Blom, who has shared valuable tips. These were applicable guidelines for those who truly want to be hale and hearty.

With the help of Sophros participants were able to immediately start adjusting their eating habits. Sophros offered a delicious and light breakfast.

Finally we all know that a good meal plan goes

hand in hand with a satisfactory workout.

CrossFit Willemstad proved that it does not

matter how old or thin or resonant you are,

there is many ways to exercise according to

your body shape and condition.

This project was without any doubt

a great success thanks to the

committee in charge:

Luigi Louisa (2015 Treasurer),

member Naesha Zunder, and

member Ryan Laveist.

Best Business Award Winner of Guardian Group

One Hour Seminar

For this evening one hour seminar we had the

visit of honorable Mr. Danny Evers – 2015

winner of Guardian Group Best in Business

Award.

Danny spoke about a lot of things. He talked

about goals, values, vision, and many other

significant aspects to oneself growth needs.

What made it even more interesting is the part

when he shared his own life experience to

validate each aspect that he had brought

forward. From little Danny to the man that

have become with his story he made his point

that it does not matter where you came but

what does is where you’re heading: this having

a vision. Another message that stood out was

that all of our actions of today will not only

determine our future but will affect the future

of someone else that we might not even

know: and this is the butterfly effect.

After sharing his story with the ones present

he immediately proceeded with two

interactive assignments. We had to paint the

current situation of Curaçao and afterwards

we had to write down the needed essences to

finally reach to our ideal Curaçao.

GMM June 2015 Unlike our usual General Membership

Meetings our sixth GMM for this year took

place on a Tuesday – June 23rd, 2015 at Floris

Suite Hotel.

Throughout our meeting all of our projects

received the attention needed and the

assembly had a chance to give their input and

feedback on ongoing businesses as well as to

completed projects, to be exact, JCI UC’s

Health Awareness Day.

JCI UC’s Health Awareness Day

As for our Health Awareness Day that took

place on June 6th, 2015 Treasurer Luigi Louisa

provided us with a Final Report. The results

were highly satisfactory since all of the

objectives were achieved. With this event we

actually did promote a healthier lifestyle to

create awareness of this matter. Additionally,

participants received a training session from

CrossFit Willemstad and a healthy breakfast

from Sophros.

UC Spotlight

Our Madam President Silvetty de la Paz has

been placing many members in the spotlight

during our GMM’s. This month spotlight was

given to outstanding team of JCI UC Health

Awareness Day which consisted of member

Naesha Zunder, member Ryan Laveist, and

Treasurer Luigi Louisa.

During our coffee break members and guests

socialized and had the opportunity to connect

more with one another.

Last week took place the second edition of

“Feria Di Konosementu” on Saturday July 5th,

2015 at the University of Curaçao.

The committee behind this particular project

was able to schedule several workshops before

noon in one day. Each training was scheduled

for a duration of one hour and 30 minutes. In

collaboration with strategic partners and

sponsorships it was conceivable to keep the

costs for each training as low as possible.

Hence, the committee in charge created a list

of trainings that are normally pricey and not

affordable to everyone.

Throughout the day participants were

delighted with snacks and soft drinks to keep

the level of energy and focus On Point!

Furthermore, it was remarkable how

participants enjoyed of each workshop and

were actively participating at all of them. In

spite of the fact that their main reason for

attendance was to gain more knowledge

about certain subjects presented by skilled

trainers, they were also able to share and

learn from each other’s own experience.

It was another fruitful day where JCI UC was

capable to provide the community with the

means to educate themselves in order to

become a better citizen.

We had in total four subjects on the

program, and these were:

Time Management 9:00 – 10:30

By Calviany Eleonora

“Make up your soul” 9:00 – 10:30

By Melissa Corea

Public Speaking 10:30 – 12:00

By Calviany Eleonora

Budgeting 10:30 – 12:00

By Yasser Cova

Having conducting these four topics Feria Di

Konosementu has surely taken a big step

forward. For the upcoming editions the

community of Curaçao can expect even bigger

things concerning education.
