About the Isuzu IMDS Instruction Manual Purpose: In order to understand the environmental impact of products, Isuzu collects material and chemical substance information on it by IMDS. For this information, Isuzu will make requests to suppliers to send the required Material Datasheet (MDS) into IMDS. This manual explains how to create and send an appropriate MDS. About this revision: It has been six years since IMDS was introduced to Isuzu. Suppliers had some unclear points in how to create MDS at first, however are used to create and send MDS now. And almost all the entry of information peculiar to Isuzu at that time has become mandatory in IMDS. The revision at this time places an emphasis on the manner of operating the IMDS rather than on the method of creating individual MDS. The name was also changed from previous “Isuzu IMDS Instructions” to “Isuzu IMDS Instruction Manual.” 1. Outline from Request to Completion of Acceptance There are several steps taken in order to get complete MDS acceptance. Fig. 1 shows the process flow from receiving a request for MDS to completing MDS acceptance at Isuzu.
Fig.-1 Process Flow from request to completion of acceptance
1.1 IMDS Process Flow overview Isuzu will make a request to create and send MDS using one of the following methods in Table-1.
Table-1 How a request is made for sending MDS
Upon receiving a request, the supplier should create MDS and send it at the appropriate time. For creating MDS and sending MDS please read Section 2, 3, and 5 of this manual.
When MDS is received, Isuzu will check and judge whether it is “accepted” or “rejected”. Each time an MDS is checked, the supplier will receive an e-mail notification of the result. For any MDS that is “rejected”, Isuzu will clearly state what should be corrected and how to correct it in our result notification e-mail. Please make necessary corrections by referring to this notification.

2. Basic Points Common to Creating and Sending of MDS 2.1 Part Number, Description, Supplier Code, Datasheet Type, and Data Acceptance Completion
Time Limit When MDS was requested from Isuzu, suppliers should create using part number, description, supplier code, and datasheet type as specified and to send it in advance so that it will be accepted before acceptance completion time limit as specified. In case these items are not specified, suppliers should create and send MDS according to Table-2 and Table-3.
Table-2 Part number, description, supplier code, datasheet type and data acceptance time limit
Table-3 Selection of data sheet type
2.2 IMDS Recommendations The MDS to be sent to Isuzu should be created according to the latest IMDS recommendation in principle. The IMDS Recommendations are displayed by clicking “Recommendation” on the left side in the main menu after login on the IMDS.
2.3 Module ID
2.3.1 How to use module ID A module ID must be used only for one part number. If the suffix is changed due to design change, etc., please change module ID to new one, do not use the module ID used before the change. MDS are managed by module ID at Isuzu. If the same module ID is applied to MDS with different part numbers, it causes confusion in managing MDS. This rule should be strictly observed.
2.3.2 Module ID for correction data When correcting MDS, a new version must be created with the same module ID as a rule.

2.4 MDS of Parts / Materials Supplied by Isuzu
2.4.1 Creation of MDS using the MDS of parts / materials supplied by Isuzu If any MDS of an Isuzu-supplied parts or Isuzu-supplied materials are required for creating your MDS, please check if you have already received the MDS from Isuzu. If the received MDS is old or is information required missing, please contact Isuzu by using the sheet already delivered to suppliers from the Purchasing Operations Dept. of Isuzu. We will send you the current MDS Isuzu accepted. Please create your MDS by using it.
2.4.2 Materials supplied by Isuzu If the chemical composition of an Isuzu-supplied material is defined in public norm or standards and the material corresponds to those in the published MDS by the IMDS-Committee, IMDS-Committee / ILI Metals or Stahl und Eisen Liste, please use the published MDS.
2.5 MDS for Public Standard Materials
If a public standard material corresponds to those in the published MDS by the IMDS-Committee, IMDS-Committee / ILI Metals, or Stahl und Eisen Liste, please use the published MDS.
2.6 Creation and Sending of multiple MDS with Similar Component Information
For multiple MDS, please create, send one representative MDS, and complete acceptance. Then create and send the remaining MDS by referring to the accepted MDS. To avoid requiring the same correction for multiple MDS, please do not send all data at one time. This also delays completion of acceptance.
2.7 Contact Person
Isuzu inquire the Contact Person in supplier data about the contents of MDS. The client manager of each supplier should periodically check if the information of the contact person is updated with the most recent information.

6. FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) Q1. I cannot create MDS and complete acceptance within two months after request of sending
data.” A1. IMDS has now become an environment responsive tool in common used. Most of the suppliers
start collecting MDS of materials and component parts or equivalent information from the preproduction stage of components and are always prepared for the sending of MDS for parts and materials to be delivered to Isuzu. They seldom start collecting the MDS and the information after receiving request for MDS as in the past. Please be always prepared to send MDS as a routine task.
Q2. The sub-tier supplier would not disclose some chemical substances of a material that compose
the part for confidentiality reasons. A2. Please explain the following rules to the sub-tier supplier.
1) Entry of all the names of sub-parts and materials forming the part is mandatory as a rule. 2) It is not necessary to disclose 100% of chemical substances that compose each material. 3) When making chemical substances undisclosed because of confidentiality, nondisclosure is
possible within a limitation of 10% for each material. However, the prohibited substances and the substances to be declared in the GADSL cannot be made undisclosed. The above are basic rules for IMDS and are internationally performed in the automobile industry.
Q3. The person in charge of our IMDS service or the relevant part that are registered in Isuzu, was
changed. Please tell us how to change contacts such as telephone number and e-mail address. A3. If the person in charge of the IMDS data, the relevant part, or your e-mail address was changed,
please notify Isuzu of the change by e-mail, etc. Isuzu will send the form for entry of the changed contents to you. Please fill out this form and return it to Isuzu.
Q4. I do not know how to operate IMDS system.
A4. For a question about how to operate the IMDS system, please contact the IMDS Service Center. For a concrete description of each operating procedure, see the IMDS User Manual. (Refer to Section 7.1 in this manual.)
