RENAULT TRUCKS T HIGH 1894 EDITION

125 YEARS OF EXPERTISE

Renault Trucks launches the T HIGH 1894 EDITION, a limited edition focused on more than a century of history, innovation and expertise.

MEETING

Page 6: ISSUE 50 / RENAULT-TRUCKS · first time. The Used Trucks Factory is also in the spotlight with the Renault Trucks T P-Road and a young owner-driver who works with his pre-owned vehicle

With this vehicle, featuring the Berliet logo’s colours, Renault Trucks acknowledges its origins and its history.

the “aesthetic” aspects had been confirmed, the most challenging part of the process began: purchasing the parts, technical validation of the prototype and finally the production phase in our Blainville and Bourg-en-Bresse factories.

What are the characteristics of the T HIGH 1894 EDITION?D. D. — From an aesthetic point of view, the Renault Trucks T HIGH 1894 EDITION sports an exclusive midnight blue paint. Some parts of the vehicle – such as the roof mounted horns – stand out thanks to their gold-yellow colour, while other elements, such as the hubcaps, are painted red. Midnight blue, red and yellow gold, these three colours echo one of Berliet’s earliest logos. Silhouettes of the brand’s iconic trucks, used as a semi-transparent background, form a rhombus featuring a locomotive, the Berliet logo, in its centre. On the bodywork, the lines and the dynamism were reinforced and the 1894 EDITION claim added. The many graphic elements on the bodywork all acknowledge our brand’s history. The cab interior also uses the same colour codes. The panoramic dashboard and door trim, as well as the upholstery, are available in red and blue finishes. The truck is equipped with a 13-litre 520hp engine, the most powerful in the range. In terms of performance, we have incorporated specific high-end equipment that improves driving comfort, which are only available as options on standard ranges. The camera at the back of the cab is a perfect example, featuring its Roadpad+ screen, making trailer coupling much easier by providing a view of the fifth wheel to make manoeuvring easier and safer.

Does it deliver its promises?C. C. — Absolutely! The Renault Trucks T HIGH 1894 EDITION really is a very fine truck, highly praised by our customers. What’s more, it has all the quality, performance and robustness it claims, like the rest of the Renault Trucks T HIGH range. From now on, the new limited edition is an event our customers can look forward to every year.

Catherine Colomb, Marketing Project Manager and David Dessenon, Product Project Manager, tell us about this exciting project!

Can you sum up the story of this new limited edition? C. C. — We decided to celebrate the company’s 125th anniversary. In 1894, the first single-cylinder engine was produced at the Berliet factories. Ever since then, the company has continued to grow and innovate. With this limited series, Renault Trucks wanted to pay tribute to its origins while highlighting more than a century of experience devoted to performance and innovation. Like every limited edition, this vehicle benefits from outstanding production procedures and processes while also being subject to the same quality constraints and robustness required of production vehicles. This has been a genuine team effort, bringing everyone and their various skills together: design, purchasing, production, marketing, etc. It has been a real challenge to meet in a very short timeframe. We began by defining the theme and story we wanted to tell with this new limited edition. The designers and developers went on to define the overall appearance and chose the colours and materials that would embody the spirit of the series. Then, after

To sum up the Renault Trucks K in a few words: they are robust, reliable vehicles with low consumption. I’m very proud to have Renault Trucks K vehicles in our fleet!”Felix Okeljoy, fleet manager at SogeaSatom

major player in the African construction industry, Sogea-Satom operates in over twenty countries via its network of subsidiaries and has a workforce of over 15,000. A VINCI Group subsidiary, it is mainly involved in construction, drilling and

civil engineering work in Africa. Its achievements include the Arlit uranium mine in Niger, the Japoma railway bridge in Cameroon and many roads throughout Africa. Felix Okeljoy, the Sogea-Satom fleet manager in Uganda, opted for the Renault Trucks K to build his fleet. “It’s a very robust vehicle, and you can get it adapted to whatever configuration you want,” he explains. “Representatives are always available when you need them and you always get excellent technical advice. I’ve not really tried any other brands,” he admits. “Because, to be quite honest, the Renault Trucks K does everything we need so well...”Eric Nakaza, Chief Mechanic, agrees: “I’ve been working with this vehicle for 12 months,” he says. “The Optidriver robotised gearbox is very easy to manage and we never have any failures! I also appreciate its low consumption and the

filtering that makes maintenance sessions less frequent... The after-sales service is also very satisfactory: parts are quick to obtain when you need them, with good technical support. It’s a robust, reliable truck and consumes much less than its competitors. What’s more, it looks good and is very comfortable.” Ground clearance is higher than average, making it easier to drive on difficult roads; “That’s a plus for us because it means we can stay operational!” Felix Okeljoy sums up, saying: “These are sturdy, reliable, and fuel-efficient vehicles. I’m very proud to have Renault Trucks K vehicles in our fleet.»

A UNANIMOUS OPINIONFor Nobatz Kaziwe, primary logistics carrier for NMS (National Medical Stores), the message is the same: “For me, the Renault Trucks K’s main strengths are its unobstructed ground clearance, robustness and adaptability to the country’s road networks. Since having this new fleet, my business has more or less doubled; the payload these trucks can ship is impressive and our maintenance costs are now significantly lower. They definitely make us more profitable.”

He smiles and sums it all up by saying, “We’re very happy we made the change!”

MULTIPLE SAVINGSFleet Manager Owen David adds, “We need vehicles that can deliver to all government health facilities in Uganda. In my experience, the Renault Trucks K has enabled us to really cut our maintenance and repair costs. This means changing vehicles less often. And according to our drivers, it seems these trucks’ first advantage is their comfort. What’s more, they are powerful and can get to places other trucks can’t reach. They are a little higher than other vehicles, making it easier to reach certain regions in Uganda where roads are in bad condition and hard to get to. As fleet manager, I really recommend them. And if we save on maintenance, we also save on fuel consumption: the drivers all benefit from optimised driving instruction when they move up to these vehicles, allowing them to reduce their fuel consumption over time. David Otim, a driver with 10 years experience, works for National Medical Stores. He finds the Renault Trucks K very comfortable. “You never

get tired with these seats,” he asserts. “What’s more, we have very good visibility, further improved by the vehicle’s height and side mirrors. We feel safe, and have a good view of everything around us. Everything is at hand. They are also much more efficient than other vehicles in terms of payload and climbing hills, for example... It feels like you’re taking off. I’m really proud to drive a Renault Trucks!”

NEW RENAULT TRUCKS MASTER RED EDITION

A comfortable vehicle Another aspect all our drivers appreciate is the Renault Trucks Master’s onboard comfort. This is completely unequalled in the commercial vehicle market. We always allow our drivers to choose their vehicle. And most of them go for the Renault Trucks Master!

PROFESSIONALS SERVING PROFESSIONALS“Since the company was founded in 1968, we have expanded in the mail sector, working for the French Postal Services, GLS and DHL.” From purchasing vehicles to keeping them serviced and trading them in, Philippe Fontaine optimizes managing his fleet of commercial vehicles thanks to the partnership with Renault Trucks. “Buying a vehicle is very easy. It’s what comes next that demands particular care because our commercial vehicles must always be operational, whatever happens. But working with Renault Trucks is so straightforward; they know the job we have to do, so we are always talking to pros, like us.”

Large payload volume If you ask me what I appreciate most, I’ll certainly start with the volume, which is huge. Making loading very easy. We can take pallets without any problem, by both side and rear doors.

COMMITMENTS AND ACTION

Sustainable development is one of our most important concerns at Renault Trucks!” asserts Julie Marconnet, CSR (Corporate Social

Responsibility) Manager at Renault Trucks. This is because Renault Trucks took the initiative to pre-empt the expectations of its customers, staff members, and the general public in this area, as well as in social and economic fields, before the environment became a major social issue. “We know this is a growing concern for our customers, themselves questioned by their own customers about the impact road freight transport has on the environment and people. Choosing Renault Trucks can therefore be an additional asset for them.” This sustainable development approach is

built around three ambitious tracks that guide the manufacturer’s choices and initiatives in the short, medium and long term.

REDUCING ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTFor more than 20 years, Renault Trucks has been developing robust, reliable and fuel-efficient products. Not only did the Euro standards greatly reduce pollutant emissions from engines, but in 40 years Renault Trucks vehicles’ fuel consumption has been halved. However, the development of fuel-efficient and low-emission products remains a priority. “We have studied our products’ life cycle to reduce their ecological footprint. And the materials used for manufacturing, largely already recycled, will be

Initiatives to reduce impact on the environment are also implemented during production. “All our factories are now ISO 14001 certified, an international standard that involves implementing a very strict environmental management system to preserve the natural environment, reduce energy and water consumption as well as promoting material recycling...”

WORKING FOR STAFF MEMBERS’ WELL-BEINGWith a workforce of 8,000 in France and 9,500 worldwide, Renault Trucks has implemented a highly attractive policy to attract and nurture talent.

Our importer in Morocco will soon be presenting a vehicle to the driver training school. This is our contribution to the country’s economic development, which is currently experiencing a shortage of drivers.”

“In 2017, we set up a Sales School programme with the EM Lyon Business School to train young people in the business of providing advice on transport solutions. In the autumn of 2018, the manufacturer also launched the Staff Retraining Mechanics Programme. Training that leads to a certificate more in line with current labour needs. Renault Trucks also addresses Health and Safety issues via a “Quality, Safety and Environment” charter to guard against risks. “We want to help our staff members to improve their work-life balance by setting up a concierge service for example, or an occasional remote working charter,” says Julie Marconnet. Gender equality, taking on people with disabilities and diversity are also the focus of special measures designed to promote social equality.

BE A COMMITED CIVIC COMPANYRenault Trucks produces its trucks in France, which earned its ranges T, C, K and D the “Guaranteed made in

France” label. Highly involved in the economic ecosystem of the Lyon region, which is home to its head office and the heart of its activities, the company maintains privileged relationships with schools and colleges as well as with local institutions. “With other public and private companies and Lyon’s engineering school INSA, we contributed to setting up the Industrial Hive to pool research infrastructures and imagine the industry of the future.” Abroad, the manufacturer has been supporting the World Food Program (WFP) since 2012 by providing technical training for staff of the UN agency in Africa. In recognition of its commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Renault Trucks was awarded Gold certification by Ecovadis in 2018 and 2019. “This is the highest distinction awarded by an independent organisation, putting us among the top 4% of companies in the automotive sector,” says Julie Marconnet. “It’s a virtuous circle in which we all have a role to play: suppliers, builders, customers, for the benefit of people and the planet,” she adds.

In France, four out of five calls for tender contain questions related to sustainable development. This applies to all sectors. Our aim is to gradually help these practices become adopted wherever we are established in the world.”

Only four of these legendary vehicles were ever built in 1957, and this was the 2nd of them to be produced. It had been towed by a Renault Trucks T all the way from the Berliet foundation, in the Ain region, to the site in Lyon. Spectacular!

PERSONALISED MAINTENANCE PLAN: MAINTAINING YOUR VEHICLES’ PERFORMANCE Fleet managers can now enjoy the constant peace of mind needed to focus on their business, safe in the knowledge they are optimising vehicle maintenance scheduling and controlling costs to ensure the fleet can always be depended on for availability and reliability. The solution offered by Renault Trucks is represented by three letters: PMS for Personalised Maintenance Schedule.

exclusively by the manufacturer that the customer can check in order to foresee his fleet’s maintenance costs. “Even if the customer carries out his own servicing in an integrated workshop, the PMS can still allow the dealer to offer adapted and personalised services.”

OPTIMISE PERFORMANCE AND LIMIT DOWN TIMEThis new generation maintenance log also makes it possible to consolidate maintenance operations and thereby preserve the vehicle’s performance

B ecause every vehicle is different – in terms of model, age, traffic conditions, activity and the driving style it has undergone – Renault Trucks has replaced the former

paper maintenance log by a digital system tailored to each truck. The PMS, or Preventive Maintenance Schedule, allows you to adjust each vehicle’s maintenance according to its actual use. With this system, the mileage is updated automatically in real time for all T, C and K truck ranges. Updates for distribution vehicles and older ranges are carried out every time the vehicle enters the workshop. Renault Trucks manages more than 100,000 of these customised maintenance plans, allowing customers to work with peace of mind knowing their fleet’s servicing is under control.”

PLANNING MAINTENANCE AND CONTROLLING COSTS“The PMS is a basic service, included in the vehicle’s purchase price,” explains Nathalie Boivin, Uptime Director at Renault Trucks. “Throughout the truck’s life cycle, our dealers call the customer directly to inform them when their next service visit is due. This is a fully personalised and evolving service, since it takes into account each vehicle’s actual operating conditions.” A sort of dynamic “health record” managed

and resale value. “All parts are new, original, guaranteed and approved by the manufacturer,” explains Nathalie Boivin.
