AMERICANISM REPORTTAXES:

Pres. Obama claims the rich do not pay their 'fair share' in America. What do you think?

■ The top 1% of taxpayers pay 40% of all federal income taxes.■ The top 5% pay 61% of all federal income taxes.■ The top 10% pay 71% of all federal income taxes.■ The top 25% pay 85% of all federal income taxes.■ The bottom 50% pay 3% of all federal income taxes.■ The top 3% of taxpayers pay over 50% of all federal taxes, more than the remaining 97% put together... and that was before Obama's tax hike this year... Sound fair to you?■ As Arthur Godfrey said, "I'm proud to be paying taxes in the good ol' U.S.of A, but, to be perfectly frank, I could be just as proud for half the money!"

----------------WHAT DID YOU CALL ME??

I'm a RACIST for criticizing Obama. I'm a TERRORIST because I believe in my 2nd Amendment rights. I'm a TEA-BAGGER for supporting the Constitution. I'm a THREAT TO NATIONAL SECURITY because I refuse to shut up. I'm a TROUBLEMAKER for asking unanswered questions. I'm a BIRTHER for questioning the lack of documentation of the Commander-in- Chief. I'm a TRAITOR for blowing the whistle on my corrupt government. I'm a CONSPIRACY THEORIST for presenting documented facts. I'm ANTI-AMERICAN for supporting Constitutionalists. I'm a RELIGIOUS FANATIC for believing Jesus Christ died for my sins. I'm a WAR MONGER because I support the troops. I'm a HOMOPHOBE because I believe in the sanctity of marriage between a man and a woman. I'm a GREEDY CAPITALIST because I believe that you are not entitled to what I have earned. I'm a SEPARATIST because I oppose illegal immigration and Sharia Law. I'm a NEO-CON because I still support traditional American values....

Yep, GUILTY, and VERY proud of it!! What's your point??

Purpose for Unity, Unity for Pupose: This month we celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Humboldt Republican Women, Federated. Stand proud, ladies and gentlemen! The history of the Republican Party and its eorts to promote the general welfare of the downtrodden has been well documented in history. From the emancipation of slaves, where the majority of votes in support of the amend-ment came from Republicans, to the authors of the Women’s Surage Amendment, and the contin-ued ght for life, it has been Republicans who have been in the forefront of these issues. How we are no longer associated in the minds of many as being the compassionate seekers of justice we once were, I cannot begin to explain. That we need to once again establish ourselves at the forefront of current issues aecting so many is paramount; thus, we have a purpose for uniting. This month, as we celebrate our 75th anniversary, we’re doing it in high style at the Samoa Mansion. Major kudos to so many of our exceptional members for organizing this gala event. Terry Roberts, Gwen Morris, Margaret Staord, Debbie and Todd Walker, and so many others whom you will meet at the event. Experience the elegant ambiance of this grand residence. Our fashion show will feature clothes from Belle Star, with our models from our club. Great items for our drawing have been donated, and lovely appetizers and desserts have been prepared by our Board members. April 18th, 12:00 on the dot, our festivities will begin. Feel free to invite friends. The more, the merrier! As our membership increases, the greater the opportunity for us to make an impact in our communi-ties. Envision a grassroots movement where we are able to share who Republicans truly are instead of what the news media says we are. Let’s prepare our hearts and minds for the ght ahead, that of drawing citizens to the Republican Party with truth and reason.Additionally, join me in congratulating HRWF Members Carol Del Biaggio and Patricia Newell, who will be honored as Republican Volunteers Of The Year - along with Art Chase, Michael Hutson, Fern Miller, & Dean Nielsen - at this year's Republican Of The Year Dinner

For 51 years, the World’s Largest Totem Pole has towered over McKinleyville's town center.

While the landmark is massive – the highest point is 162 feet, 5 1/2 inches measured from the bottom of the base – the historical record is slim.

Few documents chronicle the creation of the Totem Pole and its role in the community over the last half century.

Jack Durham, editor & publisher of the McKinleyville Press, is trying to change this. He’s looking for historical documents, photos and any information people may have about the totem pole.

He recently obtained the 1984 re-carving video, which is a treasure trove, and interviewed the man who poured the cement in 1962. Each contact results in more contacts.

“I’m piecing the story of this masterpiece together little by little, and I could use all the help I can get,” Durham said.

“I want to talk to people who were involved in putting the pole up. There were carvers and painters involved. There were crane operators. There were others who stood by and watched the pole go up in 1962. I want to hear their stories.”

Even little snippets of information will help, he said.If you have any information, or would like to share your memories of the totem pole, email Jack Durham [email protected] or call (707) 839-0795.

He’s also looking for old photos of McKinleyville that will be posted online for everyone to see, creating an online museum, of sorts, at http://www.face-book.com/l/6AQEcF6LBAQHA2nK6wKXUCKI0kKnKM-jyrO4CEBIhiGXsGEA/www.mckinleyvillepress.com.

Learn more at mckinleyvillepress.com. And, both the McKinleyville Press and the McKinleyville Totem Pole are on Facebook.

(Yes, The Totem Pole has his/her own Page.)Go on and ‘LIKE’ them.

The McKinleyville Totem Pole was carved in 1962 by Ernest Pierson and Johnny Nelson. The characters were carved into the sapwood, which started to rot. In 1984 the pole was taken down and re-carved. This photo shows Ernest Pierson re-carving the pole in 1984. The image was taken from a video shot by Ernest Pierson's son Hank. Photos courtesy of The McKinleyville Press

Humboldt County's Republican Party will honor civic activist Joe Bonino at its 21st annual Republican-of-the- Year dinner on Sunday, April 28 at the Ingomar Club. Born in Los Angeles, Joe moved to Eureka in 1985 where he owned and operated a bed-and-breakfast inn for several years, then joined the Humboldt State University nance sta in 1992, where he has been since then. Last November, Joe ran a strong campaign for Eureka City Council, losing to the incumbent by a very small margin. From 1996-2010 he was a member of the Humboldt County Republican Central Committee, most of the years as its treasurer. During his years here he has been active in many philanthropic, arts, church and civic organizations.

Invitations are the in mail for the dinner. If you have notreceived yours, call Bud Simpson, 445-8376.

Before we know it, June will be here and many reports will be due to be sent to NFRW which will determine the number of Delegates and Alternate Delegates California is assigned for the NFRW Convention. Why is this important to you? Our very own Past President Kathy Brugger will be a candidate for the Presidency of the National Federation of Republican Women. She needs our support and most of all your votes.Another item of importance is the Achievement Awards each of your Clubs can qualify for. Again, why is this important to you? As a member of CFRW we need your participation. We, as a State Federation, are also working to win The Betty Hietman Award, which each State strives to win. We won this award two years ago and we would love to bring it home again in September. Some of the items we have to complete are determined by how our Clubs are doing. So, we are asking you to be on our team, and send in your Achievement Awards Forms. Even the newest and smallest Clubs can qualify for an Award. Please help us win our State Award. You can check our form on the NFRW website. Membership is the key to how many Delegates we are awarded. This will be determined by the number of members we have by June, 2013. We know we can count on the best Federation Members in the United States You have always stepped up to the plate when it was necessary - well, now is the time to be counted.

It was wonderful to represent you at the National Federation of Republican Women at the recent Board of Directors meeting held in Arlington, VA. Both Shirley Kaltenborn and I were given the oppor-tunity to lead this outstanding group of ladies in the Pledge of Allegiance to our great ag. We then led them in singing the Stars Spangled Banner. What a choice experience. Roseann Slonsky-Breault, Northern Division President, was elected to the NFRW Nominating Committee. Congratulations, Roseann, we know you will make us proud.Learn more in our CFRW Newsletter which will be online by the end of next week to read about our mighty adventures at the Board of Directors Meeting.
