    AmericanismWhat is a liberal??

A liberal is one who protested against the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan until Obama took oce.

A liberal is one who wails about 'corporate welfare' but thinks it's great that Obama bailed out GM to save union contracts.

A liberal is someone who lives in a gated community but says that

a border fence won't work.A liberal is someone who

thinks Fox News lies but Obama doesn't.A liberall is one who says to a pregnant woman,

"Don't smoke! it'll hurt your baby!"--but tells her it's okay to abort that baby.

A liberal is someone who thinks the Republicans have a war on women

    but the Muslim world doesn't.--------------

A man was telling his buddy: "You won't believe what happened last night. My daughter walked into the living room and said, Dad, cancel my allowance immediately, forget my college tuition loan, rent my room out, throw all my clothes out the window; take my TV, and my laptop. Please take any of my jewelry to the Salvation Army or Cash Converters. Then, sell my car, take my front door key away from me and throw me out of the house. Then, disown me and never talk to me again. And don't forget to write me out of your will and leave my share to any charity you choose. "

"Holy Smokes," replied the friend, "she actually said all that?"

"Well, she didn't put it quite like that; she actually said, 'Dad, meet my new boyfriend, Mohammed. We're going to work together on Hillary Clinton's presidential election campaign!'"

What, me? You mean I need to do something to change this governmental misery were experiencing?Yes. Plain and simple.Greetings, Everyone! Its my hope that you have all had a fullling, restful summer. We have great things coming in the months ahead, but we need your help. It doesnt matter if its only two days a week, two hours a day, or four hours in the week. We need your help!Locally and statewide, there are victories for us to win; and they wont be won if we do not unify and step out into the uncomfortable to make that change happen. Four years ago, I made that venture into politics. I had no idea what to do, but I was inspired to meet a goal and make a dierence. Although my direction has changed, my goal has stayed the same: Republicans need to lead and bring common sense, reason, and constructive, not destruc-tive, ideas to government and thus to the people they serve. Needless to say, that means we must put our faith in, and support, with more than our vote in November. It doesnt matter if you have no experience in knocking on those doors or making those calls. Youll learn! Thats the point! Thats who we are-- thats what we do. We were all born to be overcomers!I have spoken to you about this in the past but, now more than ever, we need your eyes, ears, legs, arms.YOU.to break down your walls of insecurity and fear and go for the gusto and a new learning curve. What can you be afraid of? The unknown? Its only a new learning curve, and we know we are all capable of that. Were freedom- loving Americans who see that a county Democrat-controlled government, a state Democrat-controlled government, and a federal Democrat-controlled government never means good govern-ment. There must be give and take, and currently all we experience is take. Or, shall we say, a new denition of give and take that doesnt relate to what we have previously understood as its meaning. As I share some experiences with you from the last few months in this paragraph, please know I am not criticizing anyone, but just illustrating the dilemma. Over the last several months, whether it be the HRWF or the Republican Central Committee, we have had the same few people doing the majority of work. We/they are burned out and tired. We do not win elections without teamwork, people working shoulder to shoulder, sacricing time and energy for the greater good. This means anyone within the reach of this newsletter. My phone number is listed in this newsletter. Please give me a call at your earliest convenience and come on board. Its only for a short season. Remember: Theres unity in community, and thats who and what we are!

  • STATE NEWS A recent Field poll found that one in four California voters say they pay little attention to news about government and politics. About 40 percent follow political news Most of the time. About one third said, Some of the time. About one fourth said, Only now and then or Hardly at all. This number is up from 20 percent in 1999, 16 percent in 1979 (http://sandiegofreepress.org/2014/08/mid-summer-political-follies-california-style/#.U-mJP41dU8s).

According to the state controller, Californias improving budget outlook has continued into the new scal year, with revenue last month (July 2014) beating estimates by about $232 million, or 4.5 percent. Revenue from income, corporate and sales taxes all beat expectations in July, the rst of the 2014-15 budget year, the controller said. The report comes after the state general fund ended the last scal year in the black for the rst time since 2007 (http://www.sacbee.com/capitol-alert/).

LOCAL NEWS Lobbyists have launched an eort to stop a bill that would make CA the rst state to outlaw single-use plastic grocery bags, delaying a key vote and setting up one of the ercest legislative battles of the year. If signed into law, beginning July 1, 2015, this bill would prohibit the use of single-use plastic bags in grocery stores and pharmacies. It would apply to liquor and convenience stores a year later. Customers would be required to bring their own shopping bags in order to avoid a ten-cent charge for paper bags. Arcata currently has its own ban on plastic bags, as does Murphys in Trinidad. (Times-Standard 8/22/12)

The Postal Service is planning on closing its Eureka mail-processing center and move it to Medford, OR, beginning in Jan, 2015. Congressmen Jared Human and Mike Thompson contend that this move will result in the loss of hundreds of postal sta workers. Another downside would be that Eureka and surrounding areas will face a 2-3 day delivery for First Class Mail instead of the current 1-3 day standard. U.S. Postal Service issued a statement refuting Human and Thompsons claim (Times-Standard 8/21/14).

NATIONAL NEWS The Middle East Crisis heats up as ISIS advances in Iraq, slaughtering Christians, committing genocide against the Yazidi, nally getting the attention of reporters with the beheading of U.S. Journalist James Foley. King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia has warned that the West will be the next target of the jihadists sweeping through Syria and Iraq, and Obama announces that he doesnt have a plan yet for dealing with ISIS. Then he went golng. Check our website for updated links to coverage of this horric situation. (hrwf-ca.org)

Police ocers are upset as Indiana becomes the rst state to allow citizens to shoot law enforcement ocers. This new law allows residents to use deadly force against public servants, including law enforcement ocers, who unlawfully enter their homes. It was signed by Republican Governor Mitch Daniels and was adopted after the state Supreme Court ruled that there was no right to reasonably resist unlawful entry by police ocers. The NRA lobbied for the new law, arguing that the court decision had legalized police to commit unjustied entries (http://www.allgov-.com/news/top-stories/idiana-rst-state-to- allow-citizens-to-shoot-law-enforcement-o-cers?news=844609).

Obama senior advisor Dan Pfeier announced that the President will go ahead with a very signicant executive action on immigration after the summer. There is speculation that this action might trigger impeachment proceedings against Obama (http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Politics/monitor_break-fast/2014/0725/Obama-will-take-executive-action-on-immigr ation-after-summer-adviser-says).

In regard to the Aordable Care Act, the biggest question in nding out whether those who need it get health insurance coverage may be which political party runs the state. The 10 states with the highest uninsured rates in the country, Texas, Mississippi, Georgia, Florida, Louisi-ana, Montana, Arizona, Oklahoma, Alaska, and New Mexico, are all run by Republican governors or legislatures or both, and have all refused to accept the expansion of Medicaid and have declined to participate in the state exchanges (http://www.allgov.com/news/top-stories/10-states-with-high est-uni-sured-rates-are-all-run-by-republicans-140811?news=853937).
