Parking problemTHE Heswall Society has raised concerns about the dangers of parking on thepavement in Thurstaston Road. The society says that residents and the parents andcarers of children attending St. Peters School are worried because the road onlyhas one narrow pavement on one side, making it dangerous for children going to andfrom school. The society is suggesting installing a ashing sign to warn drivers to slow down.
Joy as medical centre plans dismissedTHE Heswall Society has welcome the refusal of plans for the new medical centre on
Telegraph Road opposite Tesco. The Planning Inspectorate dismissed an appeal onthe grounds of design and out of keeping with the openness of the area.
Get your running shoes on!THE West Wirral Rotary club is organising a charity 10k run / walk to take place onSunday 27th June. Last year, the inaugural walk raised over 2,750 for St JohnsHospice. The run starts at 11am from Leasowe Common. Entry forms and other information at www.westwirralrotary.org or contact [email protected]
Opposition to wind turbinePLANS for a wind turbine in Old eld Farm, Heswall, have been greeted with localopposition. Wirral Council has received a 170-signature petition from neighboursopposed to the scheme, on the grounds that it is an intrusive development. The twinblades will stand on a 58ft mast.Sam Johnson, who runs the farm, says it will help secure the future of the business
by reducing costs and carbon. The protestors have collected 170 signatures on a petition to Wirral Council
objecting to the plans.
Ambulance fearsCONCERNS have been expressed about a potential shortage of ambulances in WestWirral. The decision to remove the rapid response vehicle from West Kirby leaves just
two ambulances to cover the area from Heswall to Moreton. North West RegionalAmbulance Service maintain that there is suf cient cover.

DID ou see Heswalls Ali Jagger on theThis Morning sofa with Phil and Holl ?Ali was invited onto the ITV one show
after revealing in the Heswall Localabout the debilitating condition known ashypothyroidism.Ali, from Briar Drive, explained how
the condition caused her to gain a hugeamount of weight following her wedding. She has since lost the weight after doctorsdiscovered what was wrong but Ali is keento spread the word to women across thecountry. She said: It was such an amazing
experience, particularly as the programmehad a huge response from the publicstraight after the show went on air.As This Mornings resident GP, Dr Chris
Steele, explained many patients are stillnot receiving the correct diagnoses andtreatment for this most debilitating condition- and luckily he felt as passionately as meabout getting the story out there.Ali, whose job is a life coach, added: Phil
Scho eld and Holly Willoughby were lovely,
so professional and allowed me to get mypoint across - the phones started ringingstraight after I came off air with calls fromwomen looking for help and advice and theproducer got in touch afterwards sayingthat This Morning were delighted with theresponse. I spent most of the week talking to
people who are feeling as desperate andlonely as I was when I was ill and I havemade a point of calling every person thathas got in touch. Yes, I was nervous as Iwas about to go on-air but I rehearsed a lotthe night before to ensure that I includedall the most important points when the timecame - so getting the message across wasparamount. I also really wanted to showthe positive side as I am now completelyrecovered - so others would feel there washope!Ali was also a guest on BBC Radio
Merseysides Sean Styles Show last monthto talk about the same subject. She continued: It has been a very exciting
journey and the fact that I have been ableto help some people along the way is themost important thing for me. I am alsotalking to the producer about having aregular Life Coaching slot on BBC RadioMerseysides Sean Styles Show ... sowatch this space! If you would like information on Losing

Q. There are so man different hair removal methods nowclaiming different bene ts that I am really confused. Canou tell me which methods are permanent and which are
not?A. The only permanent method of hair removal is electrolysis
of which there are several types: short wave diathermy, galvanic electrolysis (no longer used) and the Blend method, which combines the rst two methods. However, theeffectiveness of electrolysis is very dependent on a variety of factors. The procedure is very ne and requires a keen eye, steady hand and a well trained and experienced operator for electrolysis to be truly effective. It is most suited tosmaller areas of hair growth such as upper lip, chin, sides of face, bikini line area etc.Laser and IPL (intense pulsed light) are better
described as long term hair management systemsand so are not permanent but can offer aneffective, longer term solution to larger areas of hair growth such as arms and legs. Laser and IPL are
most suited to clients with dark hair and pale skin, they are not effective on white or grey hair and arebest avoided for darker skin types as there is anincreased risk of skin pigmentation. Effectivenessof equipment varies greatly so ensure you do your research! All other methods of hair removal which include
waxing, sugaring, threading and tweezing areall plucking methods and are semi-permanentmethods of hair removal and can only be soldas such. Claims that these methods reducehair growth is purely anecdotal, although someclients do experience a reduction in hair growthwith repeated hair removal, but this cannot beguaranteed. It is worth mentioning that the effectiveness of
all the methods of hair removal mentioned abovewill vary considerably depending on the type of equipment used, your genetic predisposition to hair
growth, your medical history and the skill of theoperator. For all methods of hair removal choosean operator that you can trust.

MAy is m favourite month when manshrubs are in ower or have foliage atits best.Elders or Sambucus have a few varieties
which will add interest to all but the smallestgardens. Sambucus nigra Black Lace hasrich plum coloured foliage with pink tinged
owerheads in spring. Or try Sambucusracemosa Plumosa Aurea a cut leaved elder with bright yellow foliage. If they get too largecut them back hard in late winter or earlyspring for strong new shoots.
Another shrub with a long name is Exochordamacrantha The Bride. This is a low growingshrub up to about 1.5m with arching stems thatare covered in white owers in May. Easy togrow in a sunny or slightly shaded garden.Magnolias are at their best in May so if you
have a space out of the wind and does notreceive the early morning sun to damagefrosted owers, try a magnolia. Vulcan hashuge pink owers on a large shrub and
for smaller gardens try Magnolia Susan or Magnolia stellata varieties.Despite their exotic owers, the shrubs are
tough and can cope with being pruned hard if they outgrow their space, just dont expect toomany owers the following year!
May is a good time to plant up any pots withtender bedding plants or maybe if you have adarker area that needs brightening up, go for pots of Hostas to give you impressive foliagethroughout summer. Hostas do well in potsand a group with different coloured foliage willnot need much attention apart from re-pottingevery 3 4 years. If you planted lettuce seeds in April you should
start to harvest in May especially those looseleaved varieties. Plant a few in pots to savethem from slugs if you are plagued with them.May is also the time to plant purple sproutingbroccoli and leek seeds outdoors or to plantout seedlings of these plants if raised indoors.Runner beans and French beans can beplanted out if pot raised or sow French beanseeds outside for a late crop.
