Hebron Happenings Gala Day Newsletter No.33 Friday 2 nd November 2012 Dear Parents Last Saturday’s Gala was a huge success and we thank all of you who helped in one way or another. We especially thank Mrs Carolyn Welch, our Gala Organiser, for a superb effort in planning for the day, motivating teachers, parents and students to get behind it and attending to a mountain of jobs and requirements to see it all happening in the wonderful way it did. Well done Carolyn! We honour you for all your hard work. We also thank the following Hebron mums and dads for working “beyond the call of duty”: Akos Oltay, Pat & Stephanie Lam, David & Paula Matthews, Graham & Lynette Cave, Angela Garner, John Welch, Sandy Miller & Elizabeth Paton-Simpson. After all expenses have been paid, the profit raised form the gala was $12,000. As mentioned in last week’s newsletter, we plan to use this money extending our lower field, removing unwanted trees and levelling the grass area. More photos on the back page… Secondary Market Day A big thanks to all the parents of Year 9 & 10 students for bank rolling our emerging entrepreneurs and also helping out with the organisation and support given behind the scenes that helped make Market Day the fun, successful event that it was.

Gala Day

Newsletter No.33 Friday 2nd November 2012 Dear Parents

Last Saturday’s Gala was a huge success and we thank all of you who helped in one way or another.

More photos on the back page…

Suggestion Box

Coming Up…

As you can see in the photo, the hall was absolutely buzzing at lunchtime with students selling good wholesome food (not!) along with a range of other activities, until most of the stalls eventually sold out. It was very interesting observing some students swing into action so naturally around their business ventures and the day was a great confidence builder for all who participated. Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Handover The Operation Christmas Child Shoebox hand over took place at lunchtime today and it was a great blessing to see the majority of students bringing their shoeboxes along and handing them over to Mr Craig Scott, Samaritan’s Purse NZ Director. Mr Scott informed the school that in the last 8 years of appeals, Hebron Christian College has, on average, given over 2,500 shoeboxes, the highest ratio of students to shoeboxes of any school in New Zealand. He went on to tell us that whole communities have become Christian as a result of the shoeboxes been brought to areas of Asia and the Pacific and for every 4 shoebox that is handed over, at least 1 person becomes a Christian. Wow…that makes it a very worthwhile activity and as I said to the students, fits in perfectly with our school motto; To Know Him, To Love Him, To Serve Him.
