The new building going up on the corner of Glenmore Park Way and Blue Hills Drive is the new Glenmore Park Child and Family Centre currently being constructed for Penrith Council by Denham’s Construction. The centre will provide a number of new services for the community.

Catholic church openThe new Catholic church for Glen-

more Park, next to Bethany Catho-lic Primary School on William Howell Drive, is finally open for all Masses. It has taken the local parishioners many years to have this dream come to fruition.

The official opening of the church will be by Bishop Manning on Sunday �4th February at ��am and everyone is welcome.

A Neighbourhood Safer Place (NSP) is a place of last resort for peo-ple during a bush fire. It can be part of your contingency plan, for a time when your Bush Fire Survival Plan cannot be implemented or has failed.

The local areas identified so far are: Blue Hills Reserve Open Space at Blue Hills Drive and Ched Towns Reserve Open Space Town Terrace.

New Child and Family Centre The new centre is being built on the corner of Blue Hills

Drive and Glenmore Parkway. There will be a 50 place childcare centre for children from age 0-6 years; community meeting rooms for community groups and where programs for families with children can be offered; professional com-munity consulting rooms where practitioners can offer ses-sions to the local community such a speech therapy, occu-pational therapy, counselling, massage and natural health; an all-abilities adventure playground; a café and o u t d o o r seating and a community gathering space

The Centre will be open for business in January 20�0 and council staff are looking forward to welcoming Glen-more Park residents into this new community facility.

NSP’s still entail some risk, both in moving to them and while sheltering in them and cannot be consid-ered completely safe. They are a place of last resort in emergencies.

DEVELOPMENT UPDATEStockland is excited to be a part of the Glenmore Park Stage 2 Release Area. It is proposed the new master planned community will be developed over 5 years, will comprise approximately 500 residential allotments, as well as new parklands, playing fi elds and other community facilities. The Concept Plans and early stage Development Applications have been lodged with Council and at this stage we forecast construction to commence in the fi rst half of 2010.

JACARANDA PARKOne of the fi rst areas of construction will be the extension of the existing Jacaranda Park currently located on Jacaranda Terrace. The park will more than double in size and will take full advantage of it’s elevated position and outlook. local asbestos Diseases Support

The Asbestos Diseases Founda-tion of Australia is a not-for profit or-ganisation which provides support to people living with asbestos related diseases, as well as their family mem-bers, carers and friends. ADFA also has a long history of advocacy work.

ADFA focuses on community edu-cation about the dangers of asbestos, which can cause asbestosis and dead-ly mesothelioma even from exposure is to a single fibre of asbestos dust. Our aim is to reduce the number of people exposed to asbestos. Tens of thou-sands of Australians are expected to be diagnosed with asbestos diseases in the next couple of decades, with home renovators increasingly falling victim. In recent years victims have also included many cases of children being exposed around the home and wives exposed by washing work clothes.

ADFA run support groups are for people living with asbestos related diseases and their family members. In February 20�0 a new Penrith support group will be launched. These groups also provide information about current medical research, the drugs used in

treatment the likely and side effects.ADFA can also provides free coun-

seling from a qualified counsellor for asbestos disease sufferers and their immediate family.

insulation rebateThe federal government is offering

a $�200 rebate for insulation. This means you can have you house insu-lated for free up to the value of $�200. If your house falls under this limit, you will not have to pay a cent, if it is worth more than you will only have to pay the difference.

The grant has been reduced from $�600 to $�200 and it is now com-pulsory to have covers installed if you have downlights. It is recommended to have your insulation done asap before the rebate is reduced again or even wound up.

Having good insulation in your roofwill save you hundreds of dollars each year on electricity (it is expected to sky rocket in the next �2 months) as it will make your house cooler in sum-mer and warmer in winter

There has been some bad press

about insulation companies so check up on how long they have been run-ning. Is the product they’re using made to Australian Standards and do they have Insurances (and can they back these claims up) Is Insulation their main line of work and how expe-rienced are they? Do they do insula-tion work for reputable building com-panies and have quality assurance policies? Do they have a regular sup-ply of stock as most of the new insula-tion businesses have had a hard time getting stock and clients have been waiting for months.

Don’t sign paperwork until the in-stallation of Batts has been complet-ed, and feel free to climb up and have a look before the installer leaves.
