Fall I Fall II

Parent Child Classes(Shrimp: 6-8 months; Kipper: 9-12 months; Inia: 13-18 months; Perch: 18-36 months):

Program instruction in this class is directed toward helping parents to work with their child to feel more comfortable in the water and to develop basic water safety and swim skills. Classes are taught through structured songs and play to help your swimmer feel more confident in the water. Classes may be combined based on enrollment.

Pike With Parent: Children are taught basic skills that are building blocks of swimming. These skills include an introduction to propulsion, floating, body awareness and independence—all with a parent in the water! This is perfect for the 2-5 year old who may not be ready to be alone in swim classes yet.

Level 1: Pike is for beginner swimmers. Swimmers will learn basic paddle strokes, floats, as well as kicking skills and putting their faces in the water.

Level 2: Eel is for swimmers who are comfortable in the water, and able to put their faces in the water. Eels will learn to jump in without assistance, paddle on their front and back, and continue to learn water safety skills

Level 3: Ray is for advanced swimmers who are swimming independently for 15 ft. Rays will continue to improve their independent freestyle and backstroke, as well as be introduced to new strokes.

Level 4: Starfish is our most advanced level for this age group. Swimmers will continue to improve their freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke.

AQUATICS

Level 1: Polliwog is for beginner swimmers with little to no experience in the water. This class focuses on learning basic swimming skills, such as floating, and independent swimming.

Level 2: Guppy is for swimmers who are more comfortable in the water. Swimmers should be comfortable swimming with their faces in the water, as well as be able to swim independently on their front and back. They will learn proper freestyle breath technique as well as backstroke.

Level 3: Minnow is for independent swimmers who can swim proper freestyle and backstroke independently. They must be able to swim each stroke for the length of the pool without assistance (25yds). Swimmers will learn further stroke development, as well as an introduction to breast stroke.

Level 4: Fish is for advanced swimmers who can perform proper freestyle, backstroke, and breast stroke for 2 lengths of the pool (50yds) , without assistance. Fish will continue to improve stroke development, as well as build endurance and learn butterfly.

Level 5: Flying Fish is for advanced swimmers who want to build endurance, as well as improve stroke technique. Swimmers must be able to perform all four strokes for 4 lengths of the pool (100yds).

Level 6: Shark is our most advanced level for this age group. This level is ideal for those who are ready for a challenge; improve stroke development, as well as learning racing and competition technique. Swimmers must be able to swim all four strokes for 4 lengths of the pool (100yds) and must pass out of the Flying Fish level.

SAVE THE DATE!

Camp registration starts January 2016.

At the Y we are more than a gym. We are a cause dedicated to building strong children, families and communities – inside and out. This includes making our programs available to all regardless of need – because at the Y, everyone belongs. You can help us in the cause. Change a life by making a gift to the YMCA. Because membership dues and program fees support our daily operations, your gift will go directly to serving children and families in need.

The impact of your gift will be felt when:

• A kindergartner starts school ready to learn because he attended the Y’s early learning center.

• Kids have a safe, nurturing environment to go to after school and in the summer.

• A child learns to swim – a critical life lesson for all.

• A family is able to spend quality time together while focusing on staying active and healthy.

• A child loses weight – and enjoys it–because at the Y, exercise is play.

MAKE A GIFT. CHANGE A LIFE. Make your gift today at donate.ymcachicago.org.
