Church Staff Rev. Scott Stancil Pastor Rev. Ricky Stark Minister of Students & Education Jim Carey, Minister of Music & Senior Adults Carol Petty CDC Director Hayley Smith Ministry Intern Encourager THE FIRST BAPTIST LYMAN WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 29, 2010 Church Family and Friends, My hope is that you are doing well. I know many of you are unable to be with us due to physical conditions, but know that you are missed and prayed for regularly by your church family. We recognize the fact that our church is strong, healthy, and growing because of your faithful service over the years. Thank you and God bless you! Sunday was an amazing day. We baptized six individuals: Amanda Taylor, Gabriel Gosnell, Bailey Crowe, Jonathan Rogers, Jerry Davenport, and Quinton Baker. Please pray for each of these as they walk with the Lord and share their testimony with others. Back to our series… We can learn a great deal from the Disney Organization. I’ve shared several keys to their success thus far. Today I want to encourage you with these words: Reward, Recognize, and Celebrate. It’s so important that we reward (acknowledge) those who are working hard to minister in our church. Be sure to thank the Sunday School teachers, greet the greeters, pray for the choir. Through encouragement and prayer we can reward the many who so faithfully serve our church. Secondly, recognize what God is doing. Sometimes we get so consumed with what we think and what we want that we miss what’s going on around us. Man, God is working and incredible things are happening at First Lyman. Thirdly, we must celebrate. How do we celebrate what God is doing? We share it with others, we thank God, and we worship. Some Sundays we may not feel like celebrating because of the circumstances of life. But we can always worship. We can always respond to who God is through our singing, through fellowship, and most importantly, through our obedience to His Word. I love you and I’m praying for you. We are just about halfway through our series ldquoYour Own Personal Jesus Finding the Real Jesus in a Sea of Posersrdquo in the Student Ministry Wersquove been focusing on making sure our theology of Jesus is biblicalmdashnot just so we can have the right thoughts about Jesus but more importantly so we can see why Jesus is so worthy of our worship So far wersquove looked at the top five myths about Jesus in our culture that make our view of Jesus so small and we looked at how Jesus is 100 Godmdashthe all-powerful Creator amp Sustainer of the universe the Righteous Judge the Forgiver of Sins and the Image of the Invisible God And then this past week we focused on how Jesus is also 100 humanmdashthat he was a real human being with a real human body that experienced real human emotions and felt real human joy and pain Jesus wasnrsquot just pretending to be a manmdashHe didnrsquot just look human Jesus was 100 God and 100 man And because of this Jesus was able to be our Second Adammdashthat is he completed what the first Adam failed to do fully obeying God without falling short one time thus we see that we are not saved by our righteousness but by Jesusrsquo righteousness (see Romans 512-20) And as both God and man Jesus was also able to be our Great High Priest sympathizing with us in every way and though tempted in every way remaining without sin because of this Jesus can handle any problem we have and is able to present us to God without stain or blemish for He has taken away the wrath of God that we deserve (see Hebrews 214-18 and 414-16) Wersquore getting a big picture of who Jesus is and we just want to worship Him even more In the coming weeks wersquoll be talking about how Jesus is the Lamb of God and the Lion of Judahmdashour perfect sacrifice and our risen victorious Savior I canrsquot wait to see what God does in our hearts in the coming weeksmdashbut the ques-tion we all ultimately have to answer about Jesus is the one Jesus posed to his disci-ples ldquoWho do you say that I amrdquo Who is Jesus to you There is no more important question
