All roads led to Rio last week and we are thrilled with what we were able to put on stage for the enjoyment of families

and the learning of our students. The team work of our staff was exemplified last Wednesday and Thursday evenings and

we are once again thankful for the support shown to us by

the community.

Some of the hundreds of photos taken on the two nights are included in this newsletter and there are even more up on our

Facebook page. We hope you have a chance to have a look at

them.

Also included in this newsletter is a quick survey of your thoughts about the production. To assist us in planning and

prioritising school events for the future, your cooperation in

competing this and returning it to school before the end of term would be very much appreciated.

Production Thank You A very big ‘Thank You’ to Rita Jefferies for sewing our fantas-tic dance group costumes. Edward School is very lucky to have so many wonderful supporters of our school. Thank you Rita, from the students, Mrs Young and Mrs Druitt.

Regional Athletics This re-scheduled event is set for this coming Friday in Albu-ry. However, a decision as to whether it will proceed due to

ongoing bad weather will not be made until Wednesday this week when Albury City Council decide if the track is usable.

Competitors will be advised of the decision as soon as the

school is informed.

Early Stage 1 and Stage 1 Excursion The K/1/2 excursion will be held on Thursday 22nd Septem-

ber, which is next week. Students have been invited to trav-

el to the Altina Wildlife Park near Darlington Point. Notes have already been forwarded home. Any parents with ques-

tions or concerns should contact their child’s class teacher.

P&C News The September P&C meeting is scheduled for tonight, com-mencing at 7pm in the staffroom. All parents and communi-

ty members are invited to attend.

Thank you to everyone who donated items and bought tick-

ets for the production raffle. It raised approximately $700 for P&C projects.

New Netball Uniforms Thanks to the very generous support of our P&C, our netball

team has a new competition uniform to wear. This is a won-derful change from the older style our students have been

wearing and this new design will certainly allow our team to stand out on the court. Huge thanks to Linda Harvey for

coordinating this purchase on behalf of the P&C.

Canberra Excursion This exciting adventure is scheduled to depart on the second week of next term. Information and permission notes have

accompanied the students home today. Many thanks for those who have commenced payments for this excursion and all

families are encouraged to have this completed and permis-

sion notes returned by the end of term. Any parents with questions or concerns should contact their child’s class teach-

er. Parents requesting financial support are encouraged to make an appointment with the Principal.

Last Week of Term It’s hard to believe, but term 3 will conclude on Friday next

week for a two week vacation period.

Next Friday is scheduled for Chummy Bartlett for our S3

students and it will be a Footy Colours Day for the remain-der of the school.

School will resume for the final term of the 2016 school year

on Monday10th October. Please note that there is no Staff

Development Day at the beginning of term 4, as it is held at the end of the term.

Tell Them from Me Surveys This term, the school is taking part in the Tell Them From Me

student survey. The surveys will be available to teachers, par-ents and there is a follow-up survey for students to complete,

that will provide us with valuable feedback on what our school community thinks about school life, how engaged they are

with school and the different ways that teachers interact.

Schools in Australia and around the world have used the Tell

Them From Me survey to help them improve. The survey is completed on-line and is run by an independent research

company, The Learning Bar, which specialises in school-based

surveys.

This survey will help us to better understand how to improve student wellbeing and engagement. It will help the school

identify what works to improve student outcomes.

Participation in the survey is voluntary. If you do not want

your child to take part in the survey, please notify the school in writing before the end of this week.

Details on how parents can complete their survey on line will be in next week’s newsletter.

More information about the survey and the research is availa-ble in English on the CESE website: http://

surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/information-for-parents and a Ques-tions and Answers sheet is also included in this newsletter.

Head Lice With the vacation period upcoming, this is an excellent oppor-

tunity for families to conquer any head lice problem that they may be facing. The key to success in this is follow-up treat-

ment and the holidays can offer the opportunity for this to

occur. Families are thanked for their support in trying to eradi-cate this problem from our school

Found Found at production Thursday night. Camera lens cover.

Please see school office to collect.

Swooping Season Some residents have discovered that swooping magpies have already settled in for the season with several ‘hot spots’ having

been identified around the school area and as the weather starts to warm up, birds may increasingly start to swoop to

defend their eggs and young if they perceive people to be a

potential threat. This can be alarming, but it is usually only a warning.

The school is encouraging people to notify each other in the

school community about swooping bird hot spots and while

the best way to avoid being swooped is to avoid the area all together, sometimes this just isn’t possible. Therefore location

awareness can be the best defence.

So, if you are in the location where there is a swooping bird

please remember to protect heads and eyes and aim to move quickly. Otherwise, a helmet, a hat or carrying an open um-

brella can offer protection. Sunglasses placed on the back of the head are sometimes effective.

The Department of Environment, Land and Water have set up an online map to warn the public of danger spots. To report a

swooping incident, visit the online map at delwp.vic.gov.au/environment-and-wild-life/wildlife/swooping-birds.

Steptember Edward School Staff are participating in Steptember.

Steptember is all about increasing your fitness levels, develop

new healthy habits and raise incredibly important funds to support people living with Cerebral Palsy right across Australia.

Run by the Cerebral Palsy Alliance, the Steptember charity event challenges people to take 10,000 steps a day for 28

days.

If anyone would like help with this cause, donations can be left at the Edward School Office or alternatively online at http://

www.steptember.org.au under EPS steppers.
