Someof the students, who spoke toEcho on condition of anonymity, saidthestudymaterialwasdelivered to theuniversity and dumped in one of thelecture rooms at the institution.

The students said they usuallyreceive their study material at thebeginning of February, but this year itwas delayed. ABachelor of EducationIntermediate student said their studymaterial was dumped in a lectureroom.

The material was scattered inside

that lecture roomand students helpedthemselves to the material, she said.

She said the sad thingwas that stu-dents took stuff that didn’t belong tothem because there was no onemoni-toring, said the student.

Asked how they receive their studymaterial, she said they receive it bypost.

“We receive it by post normallyaround the beginning of February.Wedon’t know what happened this year;we were shocked to see our studymaterial dumped at the university.

“Noonewasconcernedaboutitandthat iswhy students endedup taking itthemselves. No one cared who thestudy kit was addressed to. Studentstook any kit that had the stuff theyneeded.

“That leftsomeofthestudentswith-

Another student said missing thefirst assignment has affected them alot.

“The first assignment qualifies onefor the first exam.Wedon’t knowwhatis going tohappenbecause theuniver-sity seems not to care. It doesn’t helpto report the matter to them; they areunlikelytoofferhelp.Studentswhoarefunded by the National StudentFinancial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) havehad glitches as a result of the delay.

“They have to produce a studentcard when they buy text books. Theyhavebeenunable tobuy the text booksbecause they haven’t received thestudent cards,” said the student.

SIKHULE sifundiswa ngobungozi bokuthandanakwezihlobo, kuthiwa uma zithandane kwaze kwafikalapho kuzalwa khona ingane, leyongane izalwa ikhubazekile.

Igama ebelisetshenziswa abadala yileli elithi ‘isidalwa’ beqonde ukukhubazeka ekubeni wonke umuntu uyisidalwa ngoba sonke sidalwe nguNkulunkulu.

Umngane wami uNyikinyibhoxo, umfo kaNdosi, umenywe ngabafundi bakwesinye isikole ukuthi azozichazela ukuthi kuyiqiniso kangakanani ukuthi akulungile ukuthandana kwezihlobo. Ungicele ukuthingimcelele nina bafundi bethu ukuthi nimsize ngemibono ukuze angafunzi izingane ngoshevu.

Uthi: “Mntaka Vezi ngisemukelile isicelo salezi zingane ngoba iyangihlupha lengozi yokungazani kwez

Imibuzo engifikelile sengigedwa ithi isihlobo siqalakuphi sigcine kuphi. Ngabe sigcina kugogo nomkhulunoma siyadlula lapho?

Uma ngiwuNgcobo wasemaQadini, ngihlanganenoNyuswa eTanzania bese ngibeka amabili amathathu angitshele ukuthi ngeke kulunge ngoba siyizihlobo, kufanele ngenze njani?

UMnuz Ngcobo owaziwa kakhulu ngelika “Bathathe Sgidi” owake waba ngumsakazi oKhozini FMkodwa manje osengumbhali wezincwadi, uthe lenkingaidalwawukuthi iningi labantuabamnyamaalizihluphi ngemvelaphi yalo.

cela usizo kubafundi ngoba ngeke kube lula ukuchazela izingane ngesihlobo, kwasabona abantu abadalabengazi ukuthi ngobani izihlobo zabo.

Kumanje uMnuz Ngcobo ubhala ngomlando wesizwe samaQadi ngoba uthi lona okhona encwadiniekhuluma ngoDkt John Langalibalele Dube ethi “TheFirst President” awuphelele.

Ulinganise ngokuthi akusibona bonke oNgcoboabangu “Ngcobo omkhulu”. Uthe munye kuphela u“Ngcobo omkhulu” ozalwa endlini yakwaNyuswa.Konke lokhu uyakhucaza encwadini yakhe. Uvezenokuthi uNgcobo udabuka kwelaseTanzania. Umbuzouthi bangaki abanye abawaziyo umlando wezibongozabo? Mhlambe nawe mfundi njengoba ungibuka nje, awunaso isiqiniseko ngomlando wesibongo sakini.Ngeke ngithuke futhi uma ungibuza ukuthi mina ngiyawazi yini owakithi. Noma ngingeke ngizishaye isifuba ngokuthi ngiyawazi, abadala bathi sidabuka eDonnybrook entshonalanga emaphakathi neKwaZulu

IMPELA akekho oyimpumputhe

Jacob Zuma ethe iNingizimu Afrikaisiyizwe elingcono kakhulu emvakweminyaka engama-20 yoku-buswa ngentando-yeningi, kukho-na abazwakala emisakazwenibethu lutho akunjalo.

Bathi bona intuthuko bayizwangendaba, ayikho ezindawenizabo.

Kungenzeka ukube baqinisileukuthi ayikabonakali ezindaweni

zabo. Kodwa ngabe abayiboni nak-wezinye izindawo?

Ngabe bafuna ize ifike kubokuyima bethi izwe selingcono, ng-abe alibingcono uma intuthuko in-gakafiki kubo?

Uma sekufike umgwaqo, en-gakafiki amanzi nogesi, akushoukuthi ayikafiki intuthuko, kodwawuphawu lolo lokuthi nokunyekuyeza.

Kukhona abakhalangenkohlakalo njengembambezela.

I

I DO not know whether to be sad or expect another instalment of fantastic entertainment from Mzansi Magic’s treat

that is the Isibaya drama series. When I heard that Isibaya was grinding

to halt this month, I quietly bemoaned theend of real, quality entertainment. Butthen I did not know whether to be happyorlukewarmwhenaSundaynewspaperreported that in fact, Isibaya is coming backand the story will continue.

I am always not sure of part twos, butpart one did strike the right chord with itslocal actors and actresses who are not onlyhandsome and beautiful people who areappealing to watch on screen, but also exude sexuality.

It is very difficult for me to say whichcharacter impresses me the most in that

wonderful cast of Isibaya. I find it easy toexcuse those characters who speak likethey are reading because even that becomes a kind of trait of who they are. Besides, their charisma undermines theirflows in ways that are not familiar, (or haveI become more tolerant with age?).

Mkabayi and her brother, MpiyakheZungu, the rich taxi owners, (the latter ofwhich is bewitched and turned into amkhovu, that is, a person who serves theinterests of those that have bewitchedhim), carry the story so well. I do not havewords to describe the amount of hard workthat went into achieving what I see – whata treat! To use an old friend’s favouritephrase, ‘they are so good, they are good.’

Taxiviolenceandtheuseofmutitomanipulate and dominate others are pertinentthemesthatareapartofoureverydaylives.

Although taxi feuds have gone downnowadays, thanks to the hard work of thedemocratic government engaging continuously with the taxi industry leadership, itis not unfamiliar to hear of families turnedintofatherlessorbrotherlessunits justbe

cause of contests for business and controlof routes in the taxi industry.

The character of Samson Ndlovu, whois the rival rich taxi owner whose priorityin life is to bewitch and dominate the Zungu family, is one of the best characters inthat cast of Isibaya.

Obviously, everyone knows someonewho has been allegedly turned into amkhovu like Mpiyakhe or who turns othersinto a mkhovu (or a Mgijimi – a new namegiven to Mpiyakhe as Samson’s umkhovu, which means the one who runs errands).

This subtheme of the story remindsme how much the modern world has deplored and actually fought against slaveryand human trafficking.

But through muti (i.e. something thatis hard to prove in a court of law unlessthere is hard evidence like a murder scene, weapons and witnesses), the human racestill sees people using other people for freelabour, let alone those who are killed forbody parts to be used for muti. We speakin our little corners about such disgustingand inhuman acts. Yet there is little ornothing we can do about them. The perpe

trators are known untouchables who liveamongst us like there is nothing wrongwith their gross and satanic conduct.

Indeed, I will miss a lot of charactersin Isibaya part one, if they go. The characters of Iris, Jackson and Jabulani were theepitome of opulence, sophistication, insensitivity, greed and arrogance of thepresent day elite. Needless to say, corruption, mutual abuse, deceit and the ultimate betrayal are the order of the day inIsibaya, as they are in the real world of today.

And of course Iris plays the role of a stepmother falling in love with her step son,Jabulani, in ways that defy conventionalthinking and would upset any conservativeviewer in this age of ‘Ben 10.’ As a story, Iactually enjoyed the character of Iris, thelonely, naughty, dramatic and explosivebeautiful one.

In the story, her presence is recognisedopenly by her husband, the somewhat unconscious and sick Mpiyakhe who is lyingin his hospital bed after escaping from hismkhovu ordeal. Curiously, Mpiyakhe is lessresponsive to his other two pius and typical

traditional women who share Mpiyakhewith Iris in a polygamous marriage situation when they come to see him in hospitalon a separate encounter.

Iknowthatwehavenothadanicestorylike Isibaya in a long time on national television, but the presence of Mzansi Magic,anMNetchannel, promisestofeeduswithofferings that are not only South African, but truly entertaining. Like etv’s ekasi stories, Mzansi Magic is continually floodingour television screens with short storieswhich we truly identify with and like, andmanyofthemaremadebypeopleweactually brush shoulders with.

My partner and I enjoyed the creativeshooting and exotic scenes of Msinga. Werecognised and identified with the contextwhich glorifies our province of KwaZuluNatal as a tourism destination.

Here is to the end of Isibaya part oneand its intriguing celebration of rich blackswho rose through the taxi industry in whichmodern values collide with traditional values in a superb story that mirrors the lifewe know and experience in ways that wecannot deny.

Isibaya Part 1: Here is to the end of a gem of a South African story

TALKINGFOOTBALL

For football to growmindsets mustchange

THE negative effects ofapartheid on the minds ofBlack people will be felt for

many years to come. The laws ofthe country may have changed, but theminds are still chained bythe past.

Fear is dominating the lives ofthemajorityofourpeople.Feartochange and fear to be different isholding the country hostage.Football cannot continue doingthings the same way and expectdifferent results.

Weliveinasocietythatisstuckin thepast. Independentandself-reliant individuals become ene-mies of people. We are a nationthat hates progress.

Thesecondandthirddivisionsare not youth leagues. It is wrongto put restrictions on the ages ofplayers in these leagues. A clublike Central Brothers, for in-stance,wouldlovetobepromotedto thePSL in future. How is it pos-sible with rules that do not applyto every club in the country? Please, letusnotconfuseamateurfootball with youth development. It is also not fair on older playerswhoarestillkeenonplayingcom-petitive football. It is these cos-metic changes that are delayingprogress.

We need to learn that nothingis free in this world. Progress inany field is not dependant onmoney. One does not need to berich to excel in football. You needaballandabitofspacetoimproveyour technical skills. Poorercountries will be fighting to winthe World Cup in Brazil in June.Knowledgeandhighworkethic ismore important thanmoney. An-yone can have lots of money butvery few can have wisdom. It iseasy to steal money for instancewhile it is impossible to stealwis-dom. Football isnotgoingtogrowand improve if the mind sets donot change. How many coacheshave been trained by Safa over

the past twenty years? It is sadthat the majority are still waitingfor someone to employ them.Wehavetoomanycertificatedpeoplewhodonottrainorcoachanyone.We are a nation that enjoys col-lecting certificates.

People find it very difficult tovolunteer their services. We arefailing to understand that SouthAfrica is a third world country.Themajority of people live underdespicable conditions. We playfootballonverybadfields. It isnottrue that we have better footballfacilities. IseethiseveryweekendinSABmatches. If theelitedistrictleague plays under such condi-tions, it is difficult to imagine theconditions at lower levels.

A lot of opinions have beenmade about last week’s trashingby Brazil. The reality is that goodfootballers do not grow on trees.A country that neglects its youthwill never dominate world foot-ball. We must stop being good insuggestions and start doing thework.Weneed toequipourselveswith knowledge and start givingour children good football educa-tion. It is also important that foot-ball puts qualified people in posi-tionsofauthority.Thisbusinessofputting the wrong candidates orfriends inkey football positions iskilling the sport.

Lastly, it is worth repeatingthat the first teacher of football isa mother and father. Too manySouth Africans are abdicatingtheir responsibilities. You evenseethisineducationwhereachildtravelsmanykilometreswhilethefather is a principal in the localschool. Safa has come up with aLevel D course which is suitablefor parent coaches. I would rec-ommend that young fathers andmothers attend this course in or-der to help your children. Peoplemuststarttalkingresponsibilitiesotherwise fifty years from nowBrazil will be beating us 10-0.
