Last Laughs

In spite of the recession and the

ongoing effects on the industry,

DMC has been fortunate to have

had another productive year and

achieved a few major milestones

along the way.

Project Grantham has been a key

development throughout the year

for the team and is set to be similar

next year, with completion due in December 2013. This six level

multi disciplinary professional

development, with anchor tenants

Mighty River Power, will bring

unique features to link Hamilton’s

CBD and the river reserves.

and individuals who have aligned

themselves with us during the

years. This united front of

professionals is a key component

to ongoing success of projects,

now and in the future.

This years Christmas Function at

Speight’s Ale House was a great

success and an enjoyable evening

was had by all.

A very big thanks to those who

managed to squeeze us into their

busy schedu les . We truly

appreciate your attendance at this

busy time of year.

It is always great to gather together clients, consultants, contractors

A very big thanks...

For those of you who could not

join us at this years annual

function, we extend a warm

invitation for you to join us for

drinks and nibbles in our offices

when we close off our year at

1pm on Friday 21st December

2012. The Team at DMC wish

you all a very safe, relaxing and

happy festive season. Our offices will re-open on

Monday 14th January, 2013.

The restoration of the old

Hamilton Club building, which

should be completed during 2013,

is also another key project of high

public interest.

This project will see this delightful

building returned to its former

glory. Surrounded by beautiful

landscaping that meanders through

the site to the river reserves, this

site will invite a community area

right in the middle of the CBD,

allowing for a piece of Waikato’s

history to be appreciated as it once

was.

Couplands north island bakery

was a major milestone for the

client and a first for DMC.

This year we have been

involved with Couplands for

fit-outs at additional outlets

within Hamilton, and also in Tauranga, Rotorua and

Napier. We are proud to have

supported Tristar group with

a classic design Car Museum

at Railside Place. It is great to see such an

established set-up in Hamilton

for the community.

We were privileged to have

carried out both architectural

design and full project

management services for a new

laundry and off ices in

Pa lmers ton Nor th for

longstanding clients, Alsco NZ. Ongoing projects will continue

nationwide for Alsco.

Our Clients...

Kassie recently returned from her nine and a half weeks backpacking overseas adventure to South

America. Here are some words from Kassie.

“Chile, Brazil, Argentina, Peru and Bolivia and back to little old NZ. South America is an amazing

place to visit. During our trip we visited the ancient ruins and archaeological sites such as the Inca

Trail to Machu Picchu, explored the Amazon jungle, sand boarded in the Peru dessert, mountain

biked down the Death Road in Bolivia, white-water rafted in Cusco, went giant Piranha fishing on

the Amazon Beni river, enjoyed a scenic flight over the Nazca lines in Peru, and visited the

beautiful Salt flats on a tour through Bolivia. Just to mention a few. While in Rio de Janeiro in

Brazil we went on a Favela tour (a slum). Mind boggling! Buildings were all constructed randomly

together, on top of one another, sprawling up hills around a valley or on a hill face. Definitely no

building regulations or plans required! Throughout South America you would see a similar building

construction method with the common theme being brick or plaster. Reinforcing bars were left

sticking out of the roof for future development of the next level. Everything seemed unfinished

and maintenance was non-existent. There were also amazing historical buildings that displayed

great examples of Spanish influenced architecture. I spent hours looking through old cathedrals

interiors and examining grand government buildings and magnificent palaces residing around the

main squares. What I took away from the trip was how small the world really is but yet still so

vastly different. We are so fortunate to be able to travel yet still return to such an amazing green

clean country with plenty of opportunities. It’s great to travel, but great to be home too.”

Steven recently got engaged to his lovely fiancée Stacey, and is now

busy planning for a wedding early in the New Year.

We wish them all the best for their big day and many years of happiness.

An Engineers worth

Reaching the end of a job interview, the Human Resources manager asked the

young engineer, fresh out of university, "And what starting salary were you

looking for?"

The engineer replied, "In the neighbourhood of $120,000 a year, depending on

the benefits package."

The HR manager said, "Well, what would you say to a package of five weeks of

vacation, fourteen paid holidays, full medical and dental, company matching

retirement fund to 50% of salary, and a company car leased every 2 years - say,

a red Corvette?"

The engineer sat up straight and said, "Wow! Are you kidding?"

And, the HR manager replied, "Of course, but you started it."

Celebrating 30 years in business...

On the April 1st, 1983 in a small humble basement office situated at the

premises of 229 Collingwood Street in Hamilton a young engineer,

Lyall Green, ventured out to follow a vision.

On April 1st, 2013 that vision will have been evolving for three decades.

We intend on celebrating this 30 year anniversary in style.

Details to follow in the new year.
