Dalmain Chess Club

The Dalmain Chess Club is off to a flying start with 37 players ranging from Year 4 – 6 playing on Mondays’ at lunchtime.

We have 14 new players who are being coached by Mr Colin Holsgrove. Mr Holsgrove will be teaching these students (and myself) how the pieces move on the board and introducing a new piece each week until the students are comfortable enough to actually play a full game against each other.

The garden chess sets (kindly purchased by the P&C last year) are being utilized at lunchtime in the quadrangle outside the library. These garden sets can be used by any age group.

Japanese Spoken Here! In TA 5 and TA 6, we have been creating and playing Japanese board games that teach us how to buy things or go shopping in Japanese. The aim of the game is to find all the items on the shopping list, buy them by acting out a Japanese skit, and cross the finish line. By doing this project we learned the Japanese counting system, various Japanese food and object names. Next term we hope to expand our knowledge to make playing the game more fun.

Congratulations to all of the Mother’s Day Raffle winners.

Thank you to all who purchased tickets. A total $452 has been raised for the Year 6 class end of year camp and

Dalmain Netball Club

WOW – what an awesome first week for our Netball Superstars at Dalmain Netball Club!

Dalmain 5 debuted their netball match career on Friday night against a strong team St Stephens 1. After a

slightly overwhelming start the girls found the groove and played an awesome game. There was a fabulous

amount of teamwork and passing of the ball. Our Year 2 girls showed great sportsmanship and made me very

proud! It was 5–5 by the end of the game and we are so excited for the rest of the season!

Dalmain 4 played against Woodvale Wings 12 and had a tough game against a strong team with a loss of 5-10

but they played very well. Great dedication and hard work demonstrated by all the girls for their first

game. Very proud coach Marilet Hebler. Our Year 4/5 team Dalmain 3 Girls played really well against

Woodvale Wings 8 with lots of interceptions and running into space. They had a win 7-2. Dalmain 2 our 12

and under team played Woodvale Wings 6 and had a cracker first game. Our girls were on fire. We won 20-

10. A very proud coach in Monique Callanan.

We had an Open team this year for the first time ever – Dalmain 1. Our open team plays indoor on Tuesdays

and had our outdoor debut this week. We won against Sorrento Saints 5 with a score of 40–36.

Well done to all of our Dalmain Teams and we are super excited for the 2019 season.

Karen Bomford President and proud Coach of the Year 2 Team!

Bee Sting First Aid

Steps to take if you are stung by a bee:

Do not use tweezers to remove the sting; bees leave behind a sac of venom, and if you try to use tweezers you will release more venom from the sac.

If the stinger is still in the skin, gently try to remove it by scraping it carefully from the side with the edge of a firm object, such as a finger nail or credit card.

Flicking the sting out within 30 seconds will reduce the amount of venom injected.

When you have removed the sting, wash the affected area with soap and water and dry the area gently.

If the pain is persistent and continues, see your doctor. https://www.healthdirect.gov.au/insect-bites-and-stings
