Job Description

Job Title: Active Sports Officer

Location: Regent’s Park, The ‘Hub’

Grade & Salary: Grade I (Admin) £19,800 - £22,958 10

Hours:

36 hours per week. Hours of work will vary but will normally be on a shift basis between the hours of 8.30am and 9pm Mon – Sunday and will include regular weekend working, approx 2 weekends per 4wk period. Work will also include bank holidays and privilege days. Time off in lieu will be preferred for this, however overtime may be agreed with Director Approval.

This post is identified as involving work with young people and vulnerable adults as such we will carry out a Standard CRB check on the successful candidate before appointment is confirmed.

Responsible to: Sports Development Officer

The Regent’s Park Multi – Sports Hub (‘The Hub’) is a high quality, energy efficient and fully accessible landmark building set within 20 hectares of newly restored Grade 1 listed park land laid out as multi-sport grass sports pitches. The Hub, pitches and Sports Development & Physical Activity Programme provide a range of activities and services aimed at increasing participation in sport and physical activity across all social groups.Main Purpose of the Job:

The primary responsibilities of the post are; to assist the Active Sports Manager and Sports Development Officer in the implementation of The Royal Parks Sports Development Programme which reflects the social and access objectives of the Royal Parks Agency, and to support the Hub pay-and-play facility and the associated activities.Key areas include:

The delivery of sport sessions and physical activities primarily at the Hub and within Regent’s Park.

To liaise and build relationships at all levels from individual local residents to national organisations as appropriate, in the development and implementation of the Sports Development Programme.

Assisting with the day-to-day operation of Regent’s Park Cricket Club & Regents Park Royals RFC. Both are for children U16yrs.

Assisting with the day to day operation of the Hub & the bookings process. Delivering a GP exercise referral scheme. Assisting with small sports events. Assisting with the issuing of Fitness Licences within the Park. Undertaking ‘outreach’ visits to community venues as directed. Assisting with funding applications and involvement in sponsorship

opportunities. Undertaking operational tasks including reception work, cash handling,

bookings, administration & maintaining records.

Main Duties/Responsibilities:

Programme Development and Delivery11

To deliver exercise sessions (in accordance with qualifications and competencies) as directed by the Active Sports Manager.

To Deliver exercise and sports programmes for target groups (including over 45’s, under 16’s, disabled and ethnic minority groups)

Deliver Group exercise classes e.g. circuit training, running groups. Continue with the delivery aspect of the current GP Referral scheme at the hub

in accordance with the service level agreement. To assist in ensuring that; internal staff, contractors, coaches, volunteers and

league organisers and programmes in the Royal Parks provide a safe, high quality experience and respond to the age, gender ability and cultural needs of individual users.

To assist in ensuring that the sports facilities and equipment in The Hub and Regent’s Park and their management, comply with relevant statutory requirements (e.g. Children Act, Health and Safety Legislation), as well as good practice standards applied by The Royal Parks.

Promotion and Fundraising

To assist in the promotion and publicity of the Royal Parks Community Sports and Recreation Programme and other opportunities for sport and recreational activities within the Royal Parks, mainly based at the hub facility.

To assist in identifying opportunities for external funding & sponsorship and assist in the preparation of bids as appropriate.

Finance and Administration

To assist in keeping usage records and other monitoring statistics and in the preparation of material for progress and annual reports. For example; exercise class attendance figures.

To assist the Fitness Licence application process, in accordance to the Royal Parks policies.

To assist in work relating to bookings for the pay-and-play facility. To assist in work relating to small sports events and school sports days, following

processes in accordance to Royal Parks policies. To administrate the GP referral scheme in accordance with service level

agreement, provide monthly statistics and update the Sports Manager and Sports Development Officer on progress.

Operations and Facility Management

To assist in the effective day to day operation of the Hub, including acting as a Duty Officer as and when required.

This includes: Assisting the public with enquiries & consistently offering a high customer

service standard expected within the Royal Parks. Consistently demonstrating the Royal Parks Core values. Opening and closing the Hub when acting as Duty Officer according to

prescribed operational procedures, ensuring the security of the premises and undertaking any Health & Safety checks as directed by the Sports Manager.

Assembling and dismantling of furniture and equipment as required by the business in accordance with safe operating procedures.

Overseeing use of the Hub and the sports pitches to help ensure safe practices and acceptable standards of behaviour are observed and to seek to minimise

incidences of injuries misuse and damage. This includes regular patrolling of the Sport pitches.

Recording exercise class attendance and processing of PAR-Q forms. Ensuring that no unauthorised person enters restricted areas when acting as

Duty Officer. Undertaking ad hoc cleaning and maintenance of equipment To be responsible for cash reconciliation at the end of each Duty Officer shift in

accordance with agreed procedures. To be responsible for safety and security of money in the building while acting as

Duty Officer in accordance with agreed procedures.

To undertake other related duties as agreed with the Sports Development Officer and Sports Manager.
