Prepared By:Corey T. Boone, VP Communications

Fellow Yellow Jackets,

There are often times throughout the year where the Student Government Association finds the need to make definitive statements about where we stand on issues. Now is one of those times.

To be perfectly clear, we will not, nor ever have, supported the closing of WingNuts. WingNuts has been a staple on Tech’s campus for a great deal of time, and thousands of Tech students go through the doors of this establishment each year.

For that reason, we WILL do everything in our power to ensure that WingNuts stays on Tech’s campus. We believe that we can find an amiable solution to closing this establishment. The students of Tech have done so before with the relocation of Junior’s during the Olympics, and we will do everything in our power to do so again.

We also want to send our thoughts to the thousands of Georgians devastated by the recent flooding. We understand that when one member of our community is affected, we all are.

To any member of the Yellow Jacket Community who may have been affected by the flooding, we extend our deepest sympathy. To do our part, we are partnering with a number of student organizations to collect food, clothes, and money during Homecoming Week to give to FEMA and the Red Cross. Please consider supporting us in this endeavor.

Below are some of the issues that your SGA has worked on this past week:

Campus Affairs Board

Athletics and Campus Recreation: Please be aware of the latest development from your Athletic Association.

You cannot go into the football games without a student ticket.

This is a significant change to the student ticketing policy. Before, students without tickets were allowed into the stadium after the first quarter. The new change is the AA’s latest effort to tame the large crowds in the student section that have led to numerous fights and general disorder and to ensure that every student who requests a ticket has a seat.

Academic Affairs: The Academic Affairs committee is currently placing a new Dead Week Policy before the Faculty Senate’s Student Rules and Regulations Committee. This ambitious new policy is causing quite a bit of discussion within the faculty, but given the nature of policymaking, we recognize that we will need to make some concessions in order to achieve our final goal.

For any questions regarding the new Dead Week policy, please contact Rob Parrish ([email protected]).

Campus Communications Board

Flood Relief Effort: In an effort to help alleviate the pain caused by the recent flooding in the Metro Area, the SGA is teaming with a host of student organizations to collect food, clothes, and money for flood victims. Please contact Corey Boone ([email protected]) for more information.

Date: October 12-17, 2009

Dining Hall Visits: Your SGA will be visiting your dinning halls on a periodic basis. We want to hear about the issues that matter most. Members from the Legislative and Executive Branches of SGA will be visiting Britain Dining Hall on October 15 from 5-7PM. We look forward to seeing you there!

Joint Campus Organization Committee

The JCOC is currently looking at revising the current room reservation policy to better suit your needs. If you are an organization that currently deals with this issue, please contact Melissa Pitcher at [email protected] to give your feedback.

Please know that we are always willing to hear from you. If you are concerned about an issue that was not addressed today, feel free to contact me at [email protected].
