Annual Meeting – The meeting was well attended on June 3 and a quorum was easily met via electronic voting. The annual meeting presentation is posted on the HOA website: http://www.bellavista-hoa.com/bellavista/home.asp. We are very happy to welcome Bill Chapman back to the Board as Treasurer and look forward to his wisdom and financial stewardship.

The Board met in late June and suspended Yard of the Month and Neighborhood watch efforts since no one has volunteered to manage these programs. Minutes for all meetings are posted to the Bella Vista website after Board approval the following month.

Annexation – As you are aware, the City is rezoning all of the property annexed in December; however, this is a formality and will not have any impact on our homeowner’s insurance or property taxes. If you have any questions regarding the rezoning effort, please contact any Board member.

Deed Restriction Violations – Please trim all bushes and trees that may be growing over the sidewalks on your property. We are all responsible for making sure the path is safe and letters will be sent if problems are not corrected.

Summer Projects - Please submit an ACC form to RealManage if you are planning any projects on your property this summer. The form is located on the Bella Vista website.

City Services – Please report issues including abandon vehicles, animal problems, noise, litter, potholes or street lights out to the City at the following website: (http://www.cedarparktexas.gov/index.aspx?page=41).

Board Meeting: The next Board meeting is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month at the RealManage office, 9601 Amberglen Blvd, Suite 150, Bldg G, Austin TX 78729 (next to Lifetime Fitness on RR 620 service road).

Cicadas are fairly large insects but can vary in size with some growing over 1 ½ inches. Color may also vary depending upon species, but many are brown or green. All cicadas have bulging eyes and, on adults, wings that are held roof-like over the body. The wings are semi-transparent with thick wing veins. The majority of their life cycle is spent underground.

Cicadas have 2-5 year life cycles and appear in Texas in mid to late summer. Females insert egg clusters into branches of trees using their saw-like ovipositor (egg laying structure). Eggs hatch after about 6 weeks and small nymphs drop to the ground where they burrow into the soil. Nymphs feed on sap of tree roots with their piercing-sucking mouthparts. After becoming fully developed, nymphs emerge from

the ground at night and climb onto nearby objects such as tree trunk, plants, fences, etc. Adult cicadas emerge from the last nymphal stage leaving behind the exuviae (cast skin). Adults can live 5-6 weeks.

Male cicadas are well known for their “song”. They rest on a tree and produce a whining sound to attract females. The sound is produced by two vibrating membranes on the side of the abdomen. Females do not “sing”. Adults feed on juices from tender twigs, but usually do not cause lasting harm to the plant from feeding.

Water Conservation TIPS OF THE MONTH

Install a rain sensor on your irrigation controller so your system won’t run when it’s raining or learn how to shut off your automatic watering system in case it malfunctions or you get an unexpected rain.

Use a rain gauge, or empty tuna can, to track rainfall on your lawn. Then reduce your watering accordingly.
