Internet-Exclusive Radio
Internet radio is a medium for audio broadcasting that is similar in concept to traditional radio. The difference is that, as opposed to a standard AM or FM radio signal, Internet radio is transmitted directly to computers or similar devices via the Internet.No matter which category of internet radio you are using (standard simulcasting of regular FM/AM radio, music recommendation, or an internet exclusive radio network), they all take advantage of streaming technology. When an audio or video signal is streamed it is continually being received by a user in a signal over which they have no control. Streaming media is integral to a popular form of Internet radio where regular radio stations are simulcast over the Internet in real time as they are being broadcast over regular radio airwaves.
Another major type of internet radio service are servers that house internet-exclusive radio networks. As opposed to simply recommending music or simulcasting AM/FM radio, servers are home to content exclusive to the Internet, created by professionals. These operate essentially exactly like AM/FM radio, only they're on the Internet. These radio stations can feature talk radio, comedy, or music. The audio content is recorded on a user's computer where it is then uploaded to the server and accessed by listeners. The audio can be broadcast delayed or in real time.

Labour Day Weekend is now behind us, as is a remarkable summer of seemingly endless days of blue skies and warm sun. We enjoyed the kind of weather that many of us remember as a part of growing up and enjoying summer in Wasaga Beach!Beach BOOSTER has enjoyed the many special events that we have proudly sponsored and participated in throughout the year… including Snowman Mania, Funderland, Easter Eaggstraviganza, Wild Wing Bike Rally, Promote Wasaga Golf Tournament, Wasaga Beach Blues Festival to name just a few. We were also rewarded as Beach BOOSTER presented the successful inaugural two day Back to The Beach festival on our historic Main Street in August!As individuals, we are all blessed to be living in Wasaga Beach with all that is here to make our town so unique… and as a business, Beach BOOSTER is encouraged with the great support we continue to receive from our Town Hall and of course our many valued advertisers and friends!It was less than three years ago that Beach BOOSTER was born, with the introduction of our community friendly Beach BOOSTER Transit Stop benches. The goal was then, as it is now… to provide a cost effective, local advertising venue for our local businesses. As an extension of these opportunities and of course with the addition of the creative and community minded Bill Frieday to the Beach BOOSTER Group, beach BOOSTER publication was introduced as a one sheet, black and white local newsletter. Within one short year, beach BOOSTER publication grew to what you see today, an eight page, full colour local paper… and we are still looking to grow! Our aim continues to be nothing but local in promoting Wasaga Beach and its businesses!

The next Breakfast at the Beach is on Thursday. September 13, 2012 at Beacon Restaurant, 146 North 45th St, Wasaga Beach, from 7:00am to 8:30am.The speaker this month is Dale Biddell of United Way. She will be speaking about the overview of the new-look United Way. Dale will be inviting the Wasaga Beach Business Community to consider the United Way as an instrument for assisting with the distribution of charitable funds within the community. Without a clear system and strategy for dealing with the issues of social deprivation in our area; there is a potential problem for the community to suffer from 'donation fatigue.' To avoid this, the United Way is advocating making a single donation which it will distribute in co-operation with the community.This month's breakfast will include the now regular opportunity of becoming a Featured Business Person for those who attend. Should your card be drawn, a two-paragraph promotional blurb about your business will be emailed to all members, one month of advertising in Wasaga's beach BOOSTER, and a one-month banner advertisement will appear on the Chamber web site.The breakfast is $15 for Chamber members and $18 for non-members. This is an opportunity to network and get to know other business people in the Beach.Registration begins at 7:00 am and the formal part of the breakfast ends at 8:30 am. However, you are welcome to stay and network further until 9:00 am.Please confirm your attendance: Alternatively, you can call the Wasaga Beach Chamber of Commerce at 705-429-8671 and register your intention to attend.

Moving Day has arrived for Wasaga Beach Fire Station 1
Moving Day has come for Fire Chief Mike McWilliam and his team to their new building on River Road West replacing the antique Station 1, located on Second Street.Apparently town council has not yet decided what is to be done with the old fire hall.Workers have worked on the new fire hall over the last 11 months.The 14,853 square foot $3.3-million building is spacious, allowing for the department's growth at least for the next 50 years. An official opening celebrating the new fire hall is to be held later this year.
Hole-in-One for Mike Lalonde
Using a 7 iron on the Second Hole August 29th at Marlwood the shot was witnessed by Dick Burton, Denzil Philipsz and Dave Theodore. It was Mike’s third ever Hole-in-One. Let’s hope the Hole-in-One insurance covered the bar tab with the big crowd lining up during Mens’ Day. Way to go, Mike!

Get Out Of The Car(This is supposedly a true account recorded in the Police Log of Sarasota, Florida) An elderly lady from Wasaga Beach who was wintering in Florida did her shopping and, upon returning to her car, found four males in the act of leaving with her vehicle. She dropped her shopping bags and drew her handgun, proceeding to scream at the top of her lungs, "I have a gun, and I know how to use it! Get out of the car!" The four men didn't wait for a second threat. They got out and ran like mad. The lady, somewhat shaken, then proceeded to load her shopping bags into the back of the car and got into the driver's seat. She was so shaken that she could not get her key into the ignition. She tried and tried, and then she realized why. It was for the same reason she had wondered why there was a football, a Frisbee, and two 12-packs of beer in the front seat. A few minutes later, she found her own car parked four or five spaces farther down. She loaded her bags into the car and drove to the police station to report her mistake. The sergeant to whom she told the story couldn't stop laughing. He pointed to the other end of the counter, where four pale men were reporting a car jacking by a mad, elderly woman described as white, less than five feet tall, glasses, curly white hair, and carrying a large handgun. No charges were filed. Moral of the story? If you're going to have a senior moment...make it memorable.

It’s Official; Duke’s a Wasagian!Eva and I have just become pet foster parents. Son Steven has taken a job in Northern Alberta and has entrusted us to take care of his dog Duke for an extended duration.
What to do? What to do? We have never been dog owners before and we were faced with all of these questions?What do we need to register our new dog? How do we introduce Duke to our cat Suzie and what should we expect from Suzie during the transition? How do we make Duke feel comfortable and safe in our home? How do we get Duke the proper amount of exercise? How do we socialize Duke? How do we ensure Duke is eating the right food and has a properly balanced diet? What happens when we have to go out of town for an extended stay?Well, as it turns out, you can get a lot of help right here in Wasaga Beach. There are very knowledgeable people around to help us and services and amenities for pets that help pet owners be very good pet parents.It all started with the great service and very good advice we received when we registered Duke at Wasaga Beach Town Hall. Thanks to son Steven we had a good pet vaccination history of Duke that we brought with us so Duke could receive his Wasaga Beach dog license. All dogs must be vaccinated against rabies in Wasaga Beach to receive a license and owners get first call when their pet gets found by the bylaw officials. We found this very reassuring and considerate on behalf of the town.Our cat Suzie is still trying to figure out what happened to the undivided attention she was getting before her new brother showed up on the scene. We are at the point where they can both be in the same room without incident. We credit this to the very good nature Duke has, but just don’t try to take his bone away from him.Duke has opened up a whole new world of exercise and social opportunity for Eva and me. We are enjoying great walks through our neighbourhood path system meeting people with their dogs as well as taking in the excitement at the doggie park on Mosley Street. We have received a considerable amount of advice and great products at Pet Valu right here in Wasaga Beach. The people that work there are friendly, pet savvy and very helpful in helping us find what we need for Duke’s health, comfort and safety.Dr. Kelly Volmers from River Road Animal Hospital has been very helpful in recommending nutrition and lodging for our Duke. We’re in very good hands. River Road Hospital offers a comprehensive level of services in terms of radiology, dentistry, laboratory work and surgery that can be done on-site. Dr. Kelly also provided some advice. Fleas love the sand and warm weather on our world’s longest fresh water beach. We were advised to start prevention in the spring and continue until a frost with a veterinary grade topical. Ticks are also prevalent in the area and unfortunately can carry other nasty partners. You can test yearly for these diseases with a blood test in the spring. Dr. Kelly also advised us to keep Duke away from stagnant water given the effects of Beaver Fever and all. What we also learned is that if you are boarding your dog or taking your dog to a doggie park for socialization you are best to have your dog vaccinated for kennel cough. Duke likes to swim so we were advised to also check ears for redness or discharge and skin for infection under the ears, between toes, under the armpits and groin.We were invited to take Duke for an orientation at Covered Bridge Boarding Kennel of Wyevale before we board him for a weekend holiday Eva and I are planning to take. Imagine that. You can take your pet to visit the boarding kennel ahead of time so the actual event is not so much of an adjustment when you actually have to board them.The good news is that son Steven has given our Duke mountains of love and Duke is one of the friendliest loving dogs we have ever met. The neighbours love him and he is well behaved (as far as dogs go). To our amazement Duke goes to bed by himself when he is tired and Eva and I actually get some couple time while he is making zzzz’s in his “dream boat” doggie bed.We have had to make some adjustments for Duke but so far the rewards have been bountiful. Wasaga Beach is a great community that supports pets and their owners. We find ourselves to be very fortunate. Beach Booster is certainly here to help. Send me your thoughts. Elmvale was once the home of one of Canada’s outstanding businessmen, a man who left his name in the world of supermarkets – Theodore Loblaw. Loblaw was born in Elmvale in 1872. After his parents death, he was raised by grandparents on a farm outside Alliston. In the 1890s, he headed to Toronto to begin
his career in retail grocery. He was 17 and had only twenty dollars in his pocket. Eventually, he found a position clerking in W. C. Cork’s grocery store on King Street. By 1900, this poor farm boy had been able to buy an interest in a store on College Street along with his employer’s son, J. Milton Cork whose partnership he would enjoy for the rest of his life. A decade later, the pair operated a chain of 19 small stores that were later sold to Dominion Stores Company. In 1919, Theodore put in place his idea of the “groceteria” – derived from combining the operation of a cash-and-carry grocery with a self-service cafeteria. Five years later, he had expanded into the United States with a chain in Buffalo and within four years, the company had 65 stores in Ontario and annual sales of fourteen million. At the time of Theodore Loblaw’s death in 1933, The Company’s chain of self-service stores numbered some 107 in Ontario and 50 in New York State. As one historian has noted, ”The success of the Loblaw Groceterias worked a revolution in retail merchandizing.” Theodore Pringle Loblaw of Elmvale, Simcoe County, was a merchant, innovator, chain store president and philanthropist.

Secrets to a Consistent Golf Swing
by The Golf Drill GuruWhen golfers are asked which skill they would love to have, consistency ranks the highest. Well above more distance, a better short game and solid putting. Why? Because a consistent swing is reliable and repeatable; this creates the confidence and trust in your swing to take your game to the next level. A confident swinging golfer will beat an unsure one any day. Use these suggestions below and really turn your game around guys.
Posture and SetupIt cannot be stressed enough, how important a proper setup and posture is to creating a consistent golf swing. If your posture is changing from shot to shot… how could you ever really become consistent enough to rely on your golf swing? A simple and effective posture is based around a straight back and spine. Your golf swing should consist of your arms and shoulders simply rotating around your spine. That's it, as long as your spine angle doesn't change throughout your swing, you will return to impact in position. A hunched over or flatter spine angle at address will tend to lift up during the swing, then, in order to make contact must try to regain it's address position by dipping or lifting into impact. The results are rarely pretty (simply look at the address/impact picture.) Keep it simple and give your swing the best chance for success with a solid setup.
A solid setup position starts with your weight evenly distributed between your feet which are set shoulder width apart. You should be bent over at your hips, leaving your spine angle straight and your head up. From this position your arms should be able to hang comfortably from your shoulders with plenty of room to swing your club. This position has also been called the “ready” position in other sports.

Jan Ware Back in 1998 Jan and Charles Ware visited some friends in Wasaga Beach and loved what they saw in our community. They decided to leave Scarborough where Jan had been an Office Administrator with the Toronto District School Board for almost 18 years… and move to The Beach! Jan and Charles became very active in the Wasaga Beach Community. Among other things, Jan has undertaken the task of being Membership Convenor of The Prime Time Seniors Club, Secretary for the Golf Association of Ontario (Huronia district), a member of the Kinettes of Wasaga Beach, volunteers at Waterside
Retirement Lodge and is also involved with the Marlwood Golf and Country Club where she still finds to time to golf three times a week! Eight years ago this October, Jan joined Welcome Wagon of Wasaga Beach as an assistant to Wilma Cameron who was the local rep for over 18 years. Three years ago when Wilma retired, Jan became the area representative with her assistant Linda. Welcome Wagon is a great organization that works with over 45 local businesses to provide a very useful and welcoming basket to new comers to our area. With the growing population of Wasaga Beach, Jan and Linda are kept busy knocking on doors and providing a truly welcoming touch to the task of moving and becoming familiar with a new town. Jan estimates that she greets over 220 new members of our community each year! Welcome Wagon also welcomes new babies to our area and Jan does about 30 new baby calls annually. Jan enjoys her task of greeting new folks in our town and her efforts are recognized by Welcome Wagon and their area management. In 2008 Jan was nominated for Regional Winner for all of Ontario in the Community Program and in 2010 won the award in the Baby Program! Welcome Wagon has been operating in communities all across Canada for over 80 years and Jan continues the welcoming here in Wasaga Beach. “Real time… or Wasaga Beach Time?” At one point in time, many of the Wasaga Beach hotels and beverage rooms took advantage of a loop hole in Ontario’s Liquor Laws, that gave them an extra hour to serve drinks into the night. As long as there were signs posted, businesses could operate on Standard Time, while the rest of Ontario had adjusted to Daylight Saving Time for the summer. Although this meant that opening time was held back for an hour mid-day, the profitable night time business could benefit from an extra hour of serving and providing entertainment to the masses. Hotels, taverns and dining lounges were busy! Vacationers who where staying at our many busy cottage courts, motels and hotels in The Beach enjoyed the uniqueness of having an extra hour to enjoy the live entertainment in our establishments that kept people dancing into the morning hours. Customers would also make the trip from surrounding communities like Stayner, Elmvale and Collingwood to enjoy the later closing time in Wasaga Beach. The attached pictures shows one of the signs that greeted guests in many Wasaga Beach establishments in the 60’s and early 70’s, like The Dardanella and The El Morocco pictured.
