Music Angel Gets High Praise
After having a chance to try the Music Angel I can truly say I’m impressed. The sound is great and the convenience of a small portable speaker system with an internal rechargeable battery can’t be beat. It’s so versatile I’ve enjoyed using it while in my office, relaxing on the deck and surfing the internet. It
has turned my Ipad from a device that cuts you off from the people around you to a music source to be enjoyed by the entire group. The FM Radio reception is excellent and I'm putting on all my favourite music on a Mini SD CARD to be played on Music Angel. Thanks, Randy., Wasaga Beach

Sunday before Christmas and sitting in the living room having my tea after supper I suddenly felt ill. Sick to my stomach. Tried a little Coke perhaps to burp. Burp alright. I was violently sick, throwing up what would be the first of four times. Family members who were with me decided it was time for Paramedics to come. In spite of my protests the paramedics John and Nick told me it was best that they take me to Collingwood G & M for further diagnosis. On the way to hospital while Paramedics monitored my heart and breathing, I reefed a few more times.Taken right into Emerge, I was greeted by caring Nurses and Doctors. All of a sudden I blacked out. I awoke a few seconds later being told that I had a seizure. Stomach sickness, the reason for my visit, now took a back seat. Now the emphasis was to determine why I had blacked out. Chest X-Rays, ECG and CT Scan of my brain indicated that there was a possibility of some fluid on the brain. Neurosurgeons are in Toronto at St. Mike’s, so the plan was to leave at 6 a.m. by ambulance with my favorite Paramedics John and Nick accompanied by Nurse Christine. Sirens going at times in heavy traffic which was kinda neat. Neurosurgeons were ready to operate if necessary. Busy place St. Mike’s, but I was treated with care by everyone who worked there. On the way to another CT Scan I asked for a “barf bag” just in case..all they had was sort of a “potty” made of fibreglass. Upside down it looked like a “Happy New Years” Hat...so I put the “hat” on my head while the stretcher was wheeled through the corridors wishing everyone a Happy New Year!! Thankfully the CT Scan at St. Mike’s proved negative...so my brain had no fluid...Wow!You have to imagine if it had gone the other way they would have fixed the problem right then and there. Dr. Green, in Collingwood had made they right decision sending me to St.Mike’s. Later that night, after another rush hour ambulance ride back to Collingwood..one more test was requested of me and that was a Lumbar Puncture where fluid is drawn from the spine in search for Meningitis. The needle seemed to be at least six inches but I withstood the small amount of pain and the test proved negative as well. A big relief. I was allowed to go home. That was some twenty-four hours! The whole point of this story is to tell you how fortunate we are to have these wonderful facilities close at hand. And how fortunate we are to have such dedicated Doctors and Nurses who actually care about you and want to make you better. Let’s not forget the Paramedics who are the best at doing their jobs. We have an excellent Health System here in Ontario and we should be proud to say so! Collingwood General & Marine Hospital is our community hospital. The men and women who work there are not only superb healthcare professionals and volunteers, they are our friends and neighbours. The same people you see in the grocery store, at the beach, or on the ski lift. And like any good friend or neighbour would, they are there to help us whenever we need them. Thank goodness for that! For Beach BOOSTER Point of View....Bill Frieday

The Best Kept Dining Secret in the Beach
Barcelo's ReviewOver the holiday season, I received an invitation to attend a dinner party being held by my friend and colleague Nick Wood-Gains of Georgian Custom Shutters and Blinds. The gathering was being held at Barcelo's Restaurant in Wasaga Beach. I was always curious about this little restaurant tucked in behind Mac's Milk on Sunnidale Rd., and I readily jumped at the chance to give it a try. I must share with you – I was so pleasantly surprised by what I found! Once inside the warm setting of the bar area, our group was individually welcomed by the gracious owner, Nelson Marques. We selected our drinks from a wide selection of wine, beer and mixed drink options and took our seats in the cozy, trendy feeling dining area at the back of the building. For the next almost three hours, our taste buds were delighted with a variety of dishes including; authentic, fire-grilled sausage, the freshest clams (in the best broth I have EVER had) and the main course included a perfectly cooked AAA Châteaubriand, that was delivered on a “hot rock stone”. The side dishes included a scrumptiously stuffed tomato, roasted potatoes and the most crisp and favourable asparagus that I have tasted. Unfortunately, I had to miss dessert, but if it was anything like the tapa and main course, my taste buds can only imagine! In my humble opinion, I encourage you to try out this restaurant if you have never been. Once you walk in the door, I think you will be pleasantly surprised and I know you will experience warm hospitality and an exceptional dining experience. I was so impressed by “What the Rock Was Cooking” that I bought a gift certificate for a Christmas present for friends of mine, so that they can enjoy this casual fine dining experience. I can't wait for summer to come – I can see it now – a nice warm day, a cold pint in hand and relaxing with friends on their great patio...aaahhh. Cheers!Tanya Snell

Scented Candle Melts or Candle Tarts
Make your own scented candle melts or candle tarts by melting down the wax from all your old candle stubs. These fragrant slips of wax potpourri are widely available commercially and are sometimes called scented candle chips or potpourri candle tarts. Whatever the name, essentially candle melts are some form of candle wax that is scented with essential oil or candle fragrance. They are usually warmed to
melting point in either a tea light burner or electric diffuser. You'll find that making your own candle tarts is a satisfying way to recycle old candles and a lovely way to scent your home. Why not make a few extra, using favorite scents of family and friends? Add an inexpensive tea candle wax melt warmer and you have an unusual, yet personal, homemade gift.
A (left over) TOUCHING CHRISTMAS STORY
A couple was Christmas shopping at the mall on Christmas Eve and the mall was packed.Walking through the mall the surprised wife looked up and noticed her husband was no where around and she was very upset because they had a lot to do. She used her cell phone to call her husband because she was so upset, to ask him where he was. The husband in a calm voice said, Honey, remember the jewlery store we went into 5 years ago where you fell in love with that diamond necklace that we could not afford and I told you that I would get it for you one day. His wife said crying, yes I remember that jewelry store. He said, well I'm in the bar next to it.

The Push To The Bay
In 1812, Canada went to war with the United States. The threat from the new nation south of the border, so long predictedby Upper Canada's Lieutenant Governor, John Graves Simcoe, the builder of Yonge Street, had finally come true. With the borderin flames and an invading army on Upper Canada's doorstep, it was time to build a secure military base on Georgian Bay.The man in charge of cutting the road north from the shores of Kempenfelt Bay was the colourful and eccentric Dr. William Dunlop,a massive, uncouth, red-haired Scots army surgeon who was best known by his nickname earning hunting tigers in India. On February 28th, 1815, Tiger Dunlop's work party was nearly finished it's work. It had been a miserable experience, slogging through the snow to the Wye River. Along the way, Dunlop lost several men to disease and exhaustion. But a road from York to Penetanguishene was insured. But, as it turned out, the work had been for nothing. On Christmas Day, 1814, the war with the United States hadended with the signing of the Treaty of Ghent.Word finally reached Yonge Street where a party of British soldiers were hauling military supplies north. Among themwas a heavy anchor for a new warship to be built on Georgian Bay. The anchor was abandoned at Holland Landing whereit has remained for over 200 years as a reminder of Yonge Street, the longest thoroughfare in Canada.

Enjoy riding in groups or checking out new areas? Join the Wasaga Snowmobile Club on THE THURSDAY NIGHT RIDE! Each and every Thursday (trail conditions permitting) at the WSC Clubhouse and the Klondike Sportspark. The ride will leave promptly at 6:30 p.m. 3. Hurry Up...and WAIT!The season is upon us; the club volunteers have worked hard and steady getting those trails in shape. They have put up the stakes and signs to keep sledders on trail and headed in the right direction. The groomer stands at the ready, waiting for the word, to pack the fresh fallen snow into a smooth highway that will take us on an adventure. Snowmobilers have great memories; we remember those winters with copious amounts of fallen snow, and forget the years when there is little. Having read our last article, our sleds are waiting for that 1st ride, a ride we know will come, just when is the question. It is like Christmas Eve to children, the excitement of that 1st blast of a province wide storm, that crisp Northwest air coming off the bay…bringing that all important lake effect bliss and expectation of the season start. For now we will do what we sledders do: Hurry Up... and WAIT!
