The victims were removed from the site to am- bulances by volunteers of Gayatri Parivar, which had organised a five-day event aimed at propagating Gayatri Mantra -- one of the fore- most chants in Hinduism - beginning Sunday. Some of the injured limped as they tried to walk. Others were carried on stretchers. Many others looked frightened after escaping the trauma. Jaya to attend hearing on Nov 22 Bangalore: Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jay- alalithaa will appear before a Bangalore court on November 22 in connection with a dispro- portionate assets case against her. The AIADMK chief had attended two days of court hearings in the same court last month. On October 21, the court had adjourned the hearing in the case to November 8, as record- ing of Jayalalithaa's statement on 1,000-odd questions framed in the case remained incon- clusive. The chief minister then filed an appeal in the Supreme Court asking to be excused from the hearing. She said she did not want to inconvenience the people of Bangalore and sought permission to answer questions in writing. The top court turned down her appeal, but said she should be given a date of her choice. Jayalalithaa did not appear in court today. In- stead, she moved an application seeking post- ponement of the hearing. Her close aide, Sasikala, who has also been named in the case, attended the proceedings. Jayalalithaa was forced to attend two days of court hearings in Bangalore last month, after the Supreme Court over-ruled her concerns about her security. Around 1500 policemen, National Security Guard (NSG) commandos and a convoy of 20 cars escorted the Chief Minister along a 60-km route from the HAL airport to Bangalore's Cen- tral Prison. The trial court had framed 1,339 questions for Jayalalithaa. She had replied to 567 questions on her last appearances before the court on Oc- tober 20 and 21. Supreme Court judges have said that the Ban- galore court must finish its questioning of the chief minister at her next appearance. After the Kar- nataka High Court today granted him con- ditional bail in the PCR 3 case related to al- leged illegal land denotification at Agara, al- lowing him to get out of the Parappana Agra- hara Central Jail after 24 days. Yeddyurappa obtained bail in PCR 2 on November 3. Advocate Sirajin Basha has filed five cases of alleged illegal land denotifica- tion by Yeddyurappa when he was the chief minister. Basha had obtained permission from governor H R Bhardwaj to prosecute the then chief minister and filed cases before the Lokayukta special court. The court, taking prima facie evidence, had ordered judicial custody for Yeddyurappa and former min- ister Ess Enn Krishnaiah Shetty, who too got bail in the case today. A single-judge high court bench of Justice B V Pinto ordered both the BJP men to pro- vide bonds of Rs 5 lakh each and to provide two sureties. While granting bail, Justice Pinto asked Basha’s made some strong observations against the Lokayutka special court. He said it is against law to consider the evidence filed in a private complaint and to send the accused to judicial custody. In a short hearing, the judge asked Basha’s lawyers not to argue and told them that would grant bail to Yeddyurappa and Shet- ty on technical grounds as Basha’s advocates had not mentioned all the documents in the sworn statement made before the court. While the judge said it was necessary to men- tion all the documents, Basha’s counsel ar- gued that it was understood that the docu- ments would be part of the statement. He said that since the accused do not have any precedent of criminal activity, he was granting them bail with the confidence that they would not tamper with the evidence and influence the witnesses. He also cautioned the advocates of the two not indulge in such activities while being large on bail. He also asked the two to appear before the Lokayukta special court whenever sum- moned. The judge said that the lower court ob- servation that the accused would tamper with the evidence was imaginary and not based on reality. “Denotification in itself is not an offence. The accused had powers to do that. But the case need not be argued on that ba- sis at this stage,” the judge said. The judge observed that in criminal ju- risprudence, it is not right to send the accused to judicial custody based on a private com- plaint. “It is against the law and it is not a good development Basha’s lawyers said that they would ap- proach the Supreme Court soon after they get the copy of the high court order, and seek cancellation of the interim bail granted to Yeddyurappa and Shetty. Yeddyurappa’s lawyers immediately ap- plied for the copy of the order which they took to the Lokayukta special court, where a release order for the two BJP leaders was given. Yeddyurappa’s counsel Sandeep Patil said the court took cognisance of the bail pe- tition and questioned Basha’s lawyers about some missing documents. MJʼs doc guilty of manslaughter Los Angeles: Michael Jackson's personal doc- tor was found guilty yesterday of involuntary manslaughter in the pop star's drug-related death in 2009 but may not spend much time in jail. Dr. Conrad Murray, 58, was led away in handcuffs after the jury in Los Angeles reached a unanimous verdict. Dozens of fans outside the court erupted in cheers and some burst into tears. "Justice was served. Michael is with us," said Jackson's brother Jermaine. Murray faces up to four years behind bars when he is sentenced on November 29 but may spend only months in Los Angeles' overcrowded cells. Murray pleaded not guilty to giving the "Thriller" singer a fatal dose of the powerful anesthetic propofol — normally used in sur- gery — that was ruled the main cause of his death at the age of 50. Prosecutors argued Murray was grossly negligent in administering the propofol to help Jackson sleep. Defense lawyers claimed Jackson delivered the fatal dose to himself. The judge ordered Murray, who had been free on bail for two years, held in custody un- til his sentencing. The doctor did not testify at the six-week trial and looked impassive as the guilty verdict was announced in the packed courtroom. Jackson's mother Katherine and sister Rebbie cried silently at the result. Other family members in court included his siblings La Toya and Randy, along with his father Joe. "I am," Katherine Jackson said when re- porters asked if she was pleased with the ver- dict. Jackson was found lifeless at his Los An- geles mansion on June 25, 2009, about three weeks before he was due to begin a series of concerts in London aimed at returning him to the limelight after the humiliation of his 2005 trial and acquittal on child molestation allegations. Murray admitted giving Jackson a small dose of propofol to help him sleep. But his lawyers argued the singer was dependent on the drug and likely gave himself an extra, fa- tal dose -- and swallowed a handful of seda- tives -- without Murray knowing. Murray's lawyer J. Michael Flanagan was asked by reporters if he was disappointed and he replied: "Of course." Prosecutors said Murray was negligent for administering the drug in a home setting, fail- ing to monitor Jackson, delaying a call to emergency services and failing to tell med- ical personnel he gave the singer propofol. Engineering students in their

eighth semester can better un-derstand theoretical knowledgedelivered in colleges, throughpractically experiencing it at RV-VLSI. It starts with a pre-projecttraining in January of every year(generally of 100 hours duration),and students will begin executingproject from February till April-end (about 180hours duration).

“Students will interact withindustry-experienced faculty andwork on industry relevant proj-ects to gain hands on skills andexperience on tools and practicesas seen in the industry,” Prasadsaid.

The eligibility is final year BE,from electronics and communi-cation, telecommunication andcomputer sciences. The pro-gramme will begin in January2012 and will end by May secondweek next year.

Didnʼt discuss politics withBSY during my jail visit: KS

Bangalore Beat Bureau

Bangalore: “I only inquired about Yed-dyurappa’s health, the facilities andother personal issues with him when Imet him at the jail yesterday. We didnot discuss any political issue, nor didwe have any fight over the candidatefor the Bellary Rural by-election,” saidBJP state president K S Eshwarappahere this morning.

Addressing the media at the BJPoffice Jagannath Bhava at Malleswramafter the Karnataka High Court grantedbail to former chief minister B S Yed-dyurappa allowing him to get out ofprison after his 24-day stay, Eshwarappasaid, “Everyone is happy that Yeddyu-rappa is getting out. I am sure therewill be celebrations across the state.”

He said, “Yeddyurappa has been ourleader and will remain our leader. Hehas seen I and other party workersgrow over the last 30 years. I was happyafter meeting him yesterday, and I amhappier that he is being released today.”

Eshwarappa, who seemed irritatedwith the media for its reportage on hisvisit to the jail, had a word of advice.“You should not indulge in such gim-micks. The media should report eventsas it is and should not create mischief.I don’t have any right to control themedia. They have all the right to reportwhatever they want. But my only request

is that they do so judiciously.”To a question whether the BJP would

face the next general elections andother polls under the leadership of Yed-dyurappa, he said, “The BJP centralleadership has said that the state unitwould contest all elections under thecombined leadership. Yeddyurappa toowill be part of that combined leader-ship.”

He said that Yeddyurappa will fightthe cases legally and come out victori-ous.

On the Bellary Rural by-electionscheduled for November 30, he saidthat the party election committee ismeeting tomorrow and will decide onthe candidate. “I cannot say whether(former minister) or not B Sriramuluwould be the candidate for the by-elec-tion. I am also part of that committeeand we will take the decision tomor-row.”

Major and medium industries ministerMurugesh Nirani, referring to Yeddyu-rappa’s case, said that people shouldnot use the legal system for politicalgains. A private complaint has causedimmense mental trauma and pain toYeddyurappa.

“The former chief minister has beenresponsible for taking the state throughthe progressive mode. We are sure thatonce he gets out of jail, he will work forthe development of the state.”

“The government has alsogone ahead with privatisationraising Rs 40,000 crore. It hasfailed to properly implementlabour laws, not provided socialsecurity measures and no per-manency of jobs. Though a lawhas been passed to provide gra-tuity, pension and provident fundto workers in the unorganisedsector, nothing has been done,”he said.

The CITU is demanding thatthe UPA government at the Centre

Datta: BSY cantamper withcases now

Bangalore Beat Bureau

Bangalore: Former chief ministerB S Yeddyurappa is a leader, powerful enough to pull stringsfrom within the jail. There is apossibility that he could influ-ence witnesses and tamper withevidence in legal cases againsthim, said JD(S) spokesman Y SV Datta here today.

“But at the same time, theKarnataka High Court has takena decision and granted bail tohim in a private complaint. Wewill respect the ruling of thecourt. But at the same time, theobservation that he did not haveany criminal precedent andwould not tamper with evidencemay not be right. There is a feel-ing among the people that he ispowerful enough to do anythingin this state,” he said.

“Even from the jail, Yeddyu-rappa was trying to decide whothe Lokayukta should be andhad almost got his wish pushedthrough. If he could wield suchinfluence over the government,it is sure that he would exhibithis power in other spheres onsociety too,” he said.

“He has only gotten out of jail

through conditional bail. It doesnot mean that he has been ex-onerated. There are many othercases he hast to face. These casescontain solid evidence of hiswrongdoing while being in pow-er,” he added.

Advocate Sirajin Basha hadbeen fighting the case at an in-dividual capacity without anypolitical affiliations. He will nowbe forced to go to the SupremeCourt to question the high courtruling and granting of bail toYeddyurappa, he said.’

The political fallout of the rul-ing too will be significant. A sec-tion within the BJP has declaredthat Yeddyurappa is their undis-puted leader. Neither L K Advaninor any other national party rep-resentative is bigger than Yed-dyurappa for them. Now threefactions, two others led byAnanth Kumar and Eshwarappa, would fight among themselves. The day is not too far when thedifferences within the ruling par-ty will spill out, also affectingthe governance in the state. Therehas also been speculation thatYeddyurappa has been demand-ing the party president’s post,he added.

Bail no proof BSY is innocent: CongBangalore Beat Bureau

Bangalore: Bail to former chiefminister B S Yeddyurappa doesnot mean that he has been ex-onerated in these cases, nor doesit prove his innocence, said Con-gress state president G Para-meshwara here this morning.

The Karnataka High Court to-day granted bail to Yeddyurappaand former minister and MalurMLA Es Enn Krishnaiah Shettyin alleged land grabbing cases,

allowing them to get out of theParappana Agrahara Central Jail, where they have been in judicialcustody for the last 24 days.

Parameshwara said, “We aresure that he will be punishedwhen the trial in the cases getover. He has taken decisionsagainst law while he was in pow-er.”

Conditional bail to Yeddyu-rappa is being questioned in theSupreme Court now. “If BJPworkers are celebrating his re-

lease, it only proves that theyare ignorant of processes of law. They should know that it is onlya temporary relief and he has toprove himself innocent in othercases of alleged illegal land de-notification too. If the SupremeCourt passes an order againstthe high court ruling then Yed-dyurappa has to go back to jail.”

He said that it is not a victoryfor law. Victory will be whenYeddyurappa is punished by thecourts, he opined.G Parameshwara

SC to Agnivesh: Public figuresmust watch what they say

New Delhi: The Supreme Court madestrong remarks against social activistSwami Agnivesh for his reported remarkson the Amarnath Yatra.

The two judges hearing the case, thatasks for criminal proceedings againstSwami Agnivesh, said, "You cannot takesentiments of the people for granted."They also warned that "A person in publiclife should weigh words ten times beforehe speaks" and added that if the activisthad made the remark attributed to him,he "cannot go scot free.'

The case will be heard next on Monday. For thousands of Hindus, this pilgrim-

age is a revered ritual. They trek to ashrine of Lord Shiva located at an altitudeof about 13,000 feet in a cave in Jammuand Kashmir, 140 km from Srinagar. In-side the main Amarnath cave lies an icestalagmite worshipped as the ShivaLinga.

Swami Agnivesh, during a trip to Jam-

mu in May, had allegedly said the Amar-nath Yatra is " a religious deception." Hesaid that he "does not understand whypeople go for such yatras" and had termedthe "Shivlingam" that forms inside theAmarnath cave shrine a geographicalphenomenon.

The apex court bench said that at thisstage, there is no need to interfere as in-vestigation is going on but adjournedthe matter when former Solicitor GeneralGopal Subramanium, appearing for Ag-nivesh, pleaded for a week's time to filean affidavit before it.

Subramanium contended that the statement was distorted and Agniveshhad immediately clarified it. It was not meant to hurt people's sentiments,he pleaded.

"The statement was made in the contextof arrangements made for the pilgrims. The intention was certainly not to hurt,"he said.

Raja‑PC notesto reach SwamyNew Delhi: A special CBI courton Tuesday deferred its hearingon Janata Party president Sub-ramanian Swamy’s plea to makehome minister P Chidambarama co-accused in the 2G case.

The court has asked the CBIto make available to the com-plainant a file apparently con-versation between Chidambaramand 2G accused former commu-nications minister A Raja.

Special CBI judge O P Sainiadjourned the hearing on theplea till Dec 3 after Swamy saidthat his application seeking aCBI probe against the ministeris pending before the apex court.

Swamy informed the courtthat the CBI should be directedto produce the file containingthe signature and endorsementof Chidambaram, a former fi-nance minister, which proveshis complicity in the 2G scam.

"The file contains a conversa-tion between Raja and Chi-dambaram during the allotmentof spectrum at each and everystage,” Swamy said.

On Swamy's bail application, the judge said: “After hearingthe complainant I am satisfiedthat a copy for the aforesaid filewould facilitate the prosecutionof the complainant's case.”

Accordingly, CBI is directedto supply a photocopy of the fileto the complainant at the earliest, said Saini while adjourningSwamy's plea to make Chi-dambaram a co-accused in thespectrum case.

Swamy had said the courtshould bring on record purported“new facts” that Chidambaramand former communicationsminister Raja had a “role” in de-ciding 2G spectrum entry fee.

“The fact that the abovenamed two ministers togetherdecided that the prices of spec-trum and entry fee should belumped together at the 2001 leveland decided against the marketprice of 2007-08 period for theentry fee, is confirmed by thespeech of the prime minister inthe Rajya Sabha Feb 24, 2011,”Swamy had said.

Zawahiri setup Osama,says book

Washington: Eager to becomethe leader of al Qaeda, the thennumber two Aymen Zawahiri setup Osama bin Laden by repeat-edly sending a courier to his hid-ing place in Abbottabad whohad been interrogated by theCIA, a new book by a formerSEAL has claimed.

"Despite knowing that thisoperative was blown, Zawahiriused Abu Ahmed al Kuwaiti tomake repeated trips to BinLaden's compound," says thebook 'Seal Target Geronimo' writ-ten by a former SEAL, ChuckPfarrer.

"Based on this accumulationof information, one can drawconclusion that it was Zawahiriwho led the US to bin Laden'shiding place in Abbottabad, ac-complishing this through a com-plex and persistent series of laps-es in security," he said.

"Some of these slips were sub-tle and some of them were soobvious that they were laugh-able," Pfarrer wrote in his book, which also claims that Zawahirieven tried to get the Russianskill bin Laden and he also wrong-ly diagnosed Bin Laden.

"Zawahiri tried to get the Rus-sians to kill Bin Laden; they didnot. He hoped that Addison'sdisease would take him, but itdid not. Now Zawahiri played isfinal card -- he deliberately useda blown courier to communicatewith Osama,

and the inevitable happened. The Americans found him," Pfar-rer wrote in his 225-page bookpublished by the New York-basedSt Martin's Press.

He said that for 30 years, Za-wahiri had been willing to useviolence to bring about his ideaof Islamic government.

Now, the Muslim faithful werethrowing off the chains of dicta-torship and calling out not forsharia law but for democracy, the book said.

"Zawahiri had worn himselfout trying to get Osama to esca-late his attacks against the West.Repeated plans to smuggle chem-ical weapons into the US hadcome to naught and now Za-wahiri had had enough. By latein 2009, he had determined towrest control of al Qaeda fromBin Laden," the book says.

"Zawahiri had several advan-tages over his boss. Besides aninnate viciousness, Zawahiricould speak and read English. He was an avid consumer ofAmerican news about al Qaeda.Moving between his own 1st-provided safe houses, Zawahirihad his messages delivered inAbu Ahmed al Kuwaiti's fantas-tically painted four wheel-drivetruck. The vehicle and its fre-quent destination soon attractedthe attention of American intel-

ligence," Pfarrer wrote."During the Afghan war, Za-

wahiri had continually urgedOsama forward into combat. Ashis personal physician from 1984to 2003, Zawahiri examined andtreated Osama frequently. Za-wahiri was a trained physicianwho studied at one of the finestuniversities in the Middle East.Yet he failed to diagnose Osama'sobvious symptoms of back pain, low blood pressure, and faintingspells," he said.

"All of these, and a telltalecraving for table salt led to a di-agnosis that was obvious, yetZawahiri never mentioned it toOsama and withheld from himthe easy-to-acquire medicationthat would have held his diseasein check," the former SEALswrote in his latest book.

Referring to the documentsand materials obtained from theAbbottabad compound, Pfarrersays that Osama bin Laden, him-self did not like Zawahiri andwas planning to exclude himfrom the new leadership struc-ture of the terrorist outfit thathe was making.

"SEALs would carry away fivehundred data systems, harddrives, computers, laptops, mon-itors, notebooks written in Arabicand English, papers, financialrecords, and wire diagrams of anew al Qaeda that Osama wasplanning one that

did not include Zawahiri,"Pfarrer said.

"Osama had watched thenews, too. He had considerednow that Egypt had its revolution,Zawahiri's principal qualificationfor being in the ranks of al Qae-da's leadership was gone. BinLaden did not want attacks car-ried out against Egypt, and doc-uments show that Zawahiri wasplanning a spectacular bombingin Tahrir Square," he said.

"Ironically, intel analysts read-ing through Bin Laden's paperswould discover that Osama wasplanning a full break with Za-wahiri. That move came too lateto prevent Zawahiri from movingagainst him," Pfarrer wrote.

Dhoni was my go‑toman in team: ChappellMelbourne: He had a bitter stintas India's cricket coach but theone player for whom Greg Chap-pell has only admiration is cur-rent skipper Mahendra SinghDhoni as the Australian feels hebroke down a "hierarchical" sys-tem in the team by becomingthe voice of young players

Chappell, whose two year stintfrom 2005 to 2007 was marredby several controversies includ-ing the infamous public spatwith the then skipper SouravGanguly, recalls how Dhoni rosein stature in the side.

Writing in his autobiography'Fierce Focus', Chappell saidsuch was hierarchy in the teamthat youngsters were petrifiedof speaking before a senior suchas Sachin Tendulkar in the teammeetings.

"The real ray of hope for Indianteam was Mahendra SinghDhoni, one of the most impres-sive young cricketers I'd everworked with. He was smart, andable to read the game as per-ceptively as the best leaders,"Chappell wrote.

"If I wanted to know whatwas going on in the middle,Dhoni became my go to man.He would eventually breakdownone of the biggest problems inthe India teams," he added, re-ferring to the young players' re-luctance to express themselves.

"...the youngster would say, 'Ican't speak before so-and-so. IfI speak up before a senior player, they will hold it against me for-ever.' Some were petrified, flatout refusing to say a word in ameeting before, say, Tendulkarhad spoken. It was so hierarchi-cal, it made Australian teamslook like commune," he wrote.Chappell said he began to sepa-rate team meetings into threegroups -- senior, intermediateand junior -- so that he couldhear their thoughts, which werelater broken down by Dhoni ashe gained in confidence and as-serted his leadership.

Dhoni made his Test debutafter Chappell took over as coach.

Recalling his tumultuous sting with India, Chappell said at times he had to deal withmood swings, fluctuating com-mitment to fitness and seniorplayers' unwillingness to get outand mix with the local cultureand enjoy tours.

Chappell also delved on hisstormy relationship with Gan-guly.

Speaking about the unhappyrelationship, Chappell said al-though Ganguly's support wasone reason why he got the job

with the Indian team but it turnedbitter when the then skipperstarted expecting him to be hissaviour.

"His idea was probably 'youscratch my back, I scratchyours'," Chappell wrote.

"He expected I would be sograteful to him for getting methe job that I'd become his hench-man in his battle to remain cap-tain. I, on the other hand, tookon a job with the primary re-sponsibility to Indian cricket andthe Indian people.

"There were a billion of themand only one of Sourav. I wantedto help India become the bestcricket team in the world," hesaid.

"If that means eventually theycould only become that teamwithout Sourav, then so be it,"Chappell said, adding that onfield, "there was no bigger pan-icker than Sourav."

He described Ganguly as aplayer "caught with self-doubtand his own struggle to survive".

"Sourav had great batting andleadership talent, but never re-alised his potential because hewas consumed by what he sawas the threats around him," hewrote.

Chappell claimed that whenhe was asked to frankly give hisviews to the BCCI on the team'sfuture, he told the Board presi-dent Ranbir Singh Mahendrathat "I couldn't see this teamwinning the 2007 World Cup,but regeneration was possible ifit started with Sourav perma-nently handing the captaincy toRahul."

"I thought once Sourav is nolonger in charge, his battingwould improve and his followersmight be brought into line andmade better contributors to theteam," Chappell wrote.

"Sourav was reappointed forthe coming tour of Zimbabwe, after which he sent me a veryhurt text message asking why Iwasn't backing his captaincy,"he said.

Chappell said he had no bit-terness for Ganguly at that time.

"I did like Sourav," he wrote.Chappell blamed Ganguly's

attitude problem to the culturalupbringing, which he said wascommon in India.

"I felt strongly that if he gaveup the captaincy, he could finda way to batting greatness. Hedidn't want a coach, or an agentof change. He wanted a politicalally," Chappell said.

On the team's trip to Zimbab-we, Chappell described how the

daily results affected the moodsof players and accused Gangulyof confusing them with constantchanges.

"When I sat down and talkedwith him about it, he wouldagree to everything I asked, butthen go his own way. Some othersenior players were similarly ex-pert at Gandhian passive resist-ance: saying 'Yes yes yes' beforedoing the exact opposite. Eachtime he agreed, then didn't doit," he wrote.

"In a warm up for the Tests, against Zimbabwe-A at Mutare,Sourav went missing for the tossso I went out to do his duty forhim. I lost. When he learnt whatI'd done, he seemed more vexedthat I'd lost than that the coachhad had to do the captain's job,"he said.

During the match, Chappellalso accused Ganguly of fakingan injury and walking off afterfour overs.

"He was retiring hurt, yet heappeared to have no injury. Isuggested he go for an MRI scan, but he declined. I'd seen a lot ofexcuses over my years from guyswho didn't want to bat in difficultconditions, but normally theywere more subtle than this," hewrote.

"He, in my view, was simplyfrightened of a failure before thetest series," he said.

Chappell recalled that whenthat when he inquired aboutGanguly's actions from some ofhis teammates, they said it hadbeen going on for some years.

"...joking that he had a miracledoctor in Kolkata, because hisserious injuries always clearedup when he went home."

Chappell revealed that duringthe 2006 South African series,Ganguly sent him a text messagesaying he felt like his 'son' andwould do anything to come backinto the team.

"As I wasn't a selector, thatwasn't my decision, but it turnedout that a deal had been doneamong the panel and he waspicked as the 'all-rounder' forthe Test series against Sri Lanka,"he wrote.

Chappell said he feared thatGanguly's reinstatement woulddestabilise the new captain RahulDravid and jeopardise the im-provement that the team hadmade.

"Sure enough, the very com-plicated ducks and drakes beingplayed among the politiciansand administrators resulted inSourav's reinstatement as a play-er for our tour to Pakistan," hewrote.

Warne to make T20 comebackMelbourne: Spin legend Shane Warnesaid Tuesday he was still a match-winner as he announced his return tocricket, confirming he will play in Aus-tralia's new Twenty20 Big Bash Leaguewith the Melbourne Stars.

The 42-year-old had apparently endedhis stellar cricket career at the IndianPremier League in May, but said recentlyhe had never felt fitter and speculationwas rife he would return to the Twenty20format.

In confirming he had signed withthe Melbourne team, the leg spinnersaid he still had confidence in the abil-ities which had made him a superstar.

"I wouldn't be doing this if I didn'tthink I could be pulling my weight, be-ing able to go out there and change thecourse of a game," Warne told reporters.

"It has got nothing to do with money. If it was something to do with money, Iwould be still playing in the IPL."

Warne hasn't played Test cricketsince helping Australia to a 5-0 Asheswhitewash over England in January2007 but he led the Rajasthan Royalsin the Indian Premier League (IPL) untilearlier this year.

He said part of his desire to returnwas that he wanted his three childrento be able to see him at work and it

was an "added bonus" his fiancee LizHurley would be there too.

"My kids who are 14, 12 and 10 can'treally remember dad playing cricketthat much," he told a press conferenceat the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

"For my kids and Elizabeth to comeout and see me playing cricket here atthe MCG will be pretty special."

The flamboyant personality has alsoundergone a dramatic weight drop inrecent months, shedding about 12 kilo-

grams since dating Hurley, and saidhe was confident he could handle theworkload.

"I'm in such good shape at the mo-ment," Warne said. "I wouldn't be goinginto this and playing all nine games

hopefully (including a semi-final andfinal) without a sense of confidence inmy ability that I can actually go outthere and make a difference."

The leg spinner said he was injury-free and he did not rule out possiblyextending his contract with the Mel-bourne side if the 2011-2012 seasonwent well.

"I'm a young 42 at the moment, soI'll see how it goes this year," he said.

"This is something fresh, this is some-thing new and we're all learning straightaway. Let's see how it goes this yearand we'll take it from there."

Rated one of five cricketers of the20th century by Wisden, Warne willplay his first game in the revampedTwenty20 competition against the Syd-ney Thunder at the Melbourne CricketGround on December 17.

Cricket Australia has said the formerTest world record-holder's participationin the domestic Twenty20 league wouldbe a shot in the arm for the new com-petition which replaces a state-basedtournament.

Several overseas players have signedup with the eight franchises that willcontest the BBL, including South Africa'sHerschelle Gibbs, Paul Collingwood ofEngland, and Pakistan's Shahid Afridi.

Court rejectsSalemʼs plea, trial to go on

Mumbai: A TADA court has re-jected underworld don AbuSalem's application to stop thetrial against him in view of thetermination of extradition orderpassed by Portugal's Lisbon HighCourt in September.

While rejecting Salem's ap-plication the court said that therewas no degree of finality in thetermination of extradition orderof the Lisbon High Court as theGovernment of India had chal-lenged that order in the SupremeCourt of Portugal.
