It was a morning of high drama. Yed- dyurappa claimed that he had been hurt by the comments made by the me- dia about his shift from Sri Jayadeva In- stitute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research to Victoria Hospital, and got himself discharged and went straight back to the jail. He told housing minister and his trusted lieutenant V Somanna who visited him early in the morning that he would rather be in the jail rather than the hospital as people seem to believe that he was faking his illnesses to avoid spending time in jail. Somanna coming out of the hospital said, “He was reading all the newspa- pers since early morning. His followers told me that he would soon be shifted to the jail.” The swamiji, who manages a series of professional colleges and hospitals, said, “I only wish the facilities im- proved at Victoria Hospital.” The Lokayukta special court on Sat- urday sent Yeddyurappa to judicial custody for his alleged involvement in illegal land denotification cases. Since then, it has been a series of dramatic events for the BJP strongman. Yeddyurappa, who spent only a few hours at the jail, was shifted to Jayade- va in the night when he complained of vomiting sensation, high blood pres- sure, severe back pain, diabetes-relat- ed complications and frequent urina- tion because of the bloated bladder. After checking all the parameters, Jayadeva Institute had discharged him last evening. Institute director Dr C N Manjunath said Yeddyurappa’s heart was in a stable condition, but added that since his BP and sugar levels con- tinued to fluctuate, he had been re- ferred to Victoria Hospital. Yeddyurappa was shifted in a stretcher from Victoria Hospital to a waiting ambulance at the back en- trance. While the police took care not to allow the media get access to him yesterday, today he was wheeled out quite in the open. From the hospital he was taken straight to the jail, where only the am- bulance was allowed in. Jail authorities indicated that Yeddyurappa, who is prisoner no. 10642 would be lodged in the same room that had been pre- pared when he was shifted on Saturday. LAND GRAB charges now haunt Ashok Court to decide on petition tomorrow Bangalore Beat Bureau Bangalore: It is now the turn of R Ashok, home and trans- port minister, to face allegations of land grabbing. Jayakumar Hiremath has filed public interest litigation be- fore the Lokayukta special court that the minister has bought lands already acquired by the Bangalore Develop- ment Authority and denotified them. Hiremath stated in his petition that Ashok bought nine guntas of land in 2003 and 14 guntas in 2007 at Lottagere on the outskirts of the city. The lands had already been notified by the BDA for layout formation. The lands were later denotified. Ashok has been named the main accused, while former chief minister Yeddyurappa has been named the second ac- cused. The PIL alleges that Yeddyurappa had asked the original owners to file an application for denotifiying the lands and was instrumental in clearing the land for sale. Thepetition complains that the ultimate gainer was Ashok. The Lokayukta special court has posted the case for ad- mission tomorrow. The court will also decide whether to ac- cept the complaint or not. Earlier, another person Manjunath from the area had filed a complaint charging the minister with land grabbing, but later withdrew it. If the case proceed, Ashok would be the latest in a series of minister from the BJP government to face allegations of land grabbing and denotifying acquired properties. Already, Yeddyurappa and former minister and Malur MLA Ess Enn Krishnaiah Shetty are facing charges of illegally denotifying land. Former IT-BT minister Katta Subramanya is facing charges for grabbing land through Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board while he was the minister. His son Ja- gadish Naidu and Itasca managing director Srinivas Rao too have been cooling their heels in jail. Basha moves HC, wants othersʼ bail cancelled Bangalore Beat Bureau Bangalore: In a legally strategic move, advocate Sirajin Basha today moved the Karnataka High Court seeking cancellation of bail to other ac- cused in illegal land denotification cases. He has filed criminal petition against Yeddyu- rappa’s sons B Y Raghavendra and B Y Vi- jayendra and his son-in-law Sohan Kumar, who too hav been named accused in the cases. The main accused and former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa and former minister and Malur MLA Ess Enn Krishnaiah Shetty have been de- nied bail and sent to judicial custody. They are now at the Parappana Agrahara Central Jail. Legal experts said Basha’s petition is to pre- vent former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa, who has moved the high court seeking conditional bail, from getting out of jail. His petition, seek- ing interim bail, is coming up for hearing to- morrow. The high court also took up Shetty’s bail petition today and posted it for hearing tomor- row. Since the two petitions are similar and per- tain to the same case, the high court is likely to club them together for the hearing. Since Basha’s petition objects to bail for the accused in the cases, the court may have to con- sider his plea to before passing a judgment. The court could adjourn the entire set of petitions for a later date, which would ensure that the former chief minister would not get out of jail in a hur- ry. Basha’s petition says that the reasons cited while denying bail to Yeddyurappa and Shetty have to be applied for the other accused too. While passing the order, Lokayukta special judge N K Sudheendra Rao had stated that Yeddyurappa and Shetty could tamper with wit- nesses and denied bail to them. Basha has said Yeddyurappa’s sons and son- in-law are the direct beneficiaries of the scam and their bail too should be cancelled. YOU ARE A YOGIWhat does this spiritual path

do to an individual? Itmakes your body vibrantand resistant to disease.

It brings radiance in your aura andmakes your voice very sweet and melo-dious. It improves your circulation, makes you skillful, intuitive, efficient, capable, and compassionate and bringsthe Siddhis (perfections) in you. Thenbefore you want something, it alreadystarts coming to you. But there is adoubt that raises its head in a fewpeople. It is discussed in the BhagwadGeeta, when Arjuna says, “Will a per-son who walks on a path or does notperfect it, will fall from it and he willbe nowhere? He will be neither herenor there? So what to do? This is mydoubt and only you can solve this.Because you know you are a yogi andyou are also in the world. Suppose Istart the path of yoga and I lose mykingdom, my work, my job, everythinghere, that I have been doing and I amdoing neither this nor that, will I notbe in between somewhere?”

Lord Krishna answers, “My dear

don’t worry, because anyone who doessomething good, something beneficial, will never suffer. You cannot perishin this path. It is impossible. If youare not successful now, never mind, you can be assured you will come anddo it again because there are manylifetimes. ” Spiritual practices are calledSadhana. This means the real currency, which you can take to the other sidealso. The bliss that you carry will gowith your spirit into the next life.Someone who has not completed thejourney of yoga, has not attained theself, has fallen from there, due to what-ever reason, will be born in a goodfamily or a yogi’s family because ofgood karma earned. People can beborn in many rich families, but theymany not be intelligent. They are notthe yoga brastas (fallen yogis). Theseare those who are intelligent and areborn in yogis family or in well to dofamilies. But this doesn’t mean thatyogis are not born in poor families.Due to the past life’s experience, thosesanskaras (impressions) will againmake them go in the path of yoga to

complete their journey. So, spirituality brings strength and

you will progress in the world. If youfind any doubt, just know that it istemporary. Even a mere enquirer afteryoga transcends the intellectual knowl-edge. Verily, a yogi who practices, being purified by all sins, is perfectedthrough many births and then attainsthe supreme goal. The yogi is regardedas greater than ascetics, greater thaneven men of knowledge, greater alsothan those devoted to work. Such aperson does not crave for anythingbecause he/she is in the state of ful-fillment. Abundance is a sign of yogiand a sign of true spiritual growth. Not a sense of lack or despondency ordesperateness. Wherever you put yourattention to something, that thing willgrow. If you put your attention on thelack of something, the lack will in-crease.

Tonight, just before going to sleep, sit your bed, with a big smile on yourface, relax, and think , “I am a yogi, Iam lucky.” Don’t doubt that you are ayogi. You are a yogi. That is why you

are reading this, hearing this. Youshould know that you are lucky. Aftersaying this, think of all the things youcan be grateful for in this life. Don’tsit and worry about your mistakes.Mistakes have taught you some lessonsand the good deeds have expandedyour vision and shown your possibil-ities. We will honour everything inlife. That is where we get into choicelessawareness. So be in the present mo-ment where we are hollow, empty andlight. However nice something is, how-ever ugly something is both will dis-appear into thin air. Knowing this youget back to the self, the source of allwealth, happiness and joy which isdeep within you. Then you realise thatyou have gained an ability to smilethrough everything and nothing both-ers you or touches you. You are unitedwith nature, nature loves you, andbrings Sukhamatyantikam (unbeliev-able pleasure beyond the senses) andabundance and to your life.

The Gemological Institute ofAmerica (GIA) and InternationalGemological Institute (IGI) areoffering their services at a timewhen authenticity of preciousstones is being questioned.

“We cannot say that today’scustomer is knowledgeable aboutprecious stones. There is everychance of his being misled andcheated. In most cases, cus-tomers go around looking forexaminers only after they buythese precious stones, includingdiamonds. This is where we wantto step in and create awarenessamong customers,” said K MThakshak, business developmentexecutive, GIA, Mumbai.

GIA and IGI now have officesin Mumbai and plan to expandthem to other parts of the coun-try, including Bangalore.

ronment and forests, said, “In-cidents of sandalwood smug-gling have gone up across thecountry. This rich resource isfast depleting. We must con-serve forests and work towardsprotecting them.”

He said, “Wood still provides60-70 percent of energy needsin the country. We should getaway from it and as far as pos-sible stop entry of humans intoforests.”

The focus now should begreening empty spaces in urbanareas. Prime Minister Manmo-han Singh is heading the Green-ing India Project and the thrustis being given from the centralgovernment to increase greencover in cities and towns, headded.

also to conduct the trial at theCity Civil Court complex on aSunday t avoid the crowds.

What had been worrying thepolice was the “Z” category se-curity that needed to be providedto Jayalalithaa. Finally, the centraljail was chosen as it was secureand the route was relatively freeduring the peak hours.

Sexual harassment victimat Mysore varsity protests

Bangalore Beat Bureau

Mysore: A victim of sexual ha-rassment at Mysore Universityprotested in front of the deputycommissioner’s office here today, condemning the revocation ofsuspension order against theperpetrator.

Saritha, a PhD student, herhusband Vijayakumar and moth-er-in-law Rathnamma sat on adharna demanding continuedaction against her former guideShivabasavaiah. She had accusedher guide of seeking sexualfavours from her and tried tocommit suicide.

Immediately after the scandalbroke out six months ago, Shiv-abasavaiah had been palced un-der suspension. But now thatthe issue has faded from publicmemory, the authorities have

tried to revoke the order insteadof punishing the guilty professor, she alleged.

Saritha and Vijay Kumar hadapproached the university vice-chancellor and even called onseveral ministers at VidhanaSoudha demanding justice.

Saritha was supported bySamata Dal members, who de-manded that the universityshould take back its order andcontinue with the action againstthe perpetrator.

Saritha said Shivabasavaiahwas transferred to the UniversityPress on Saturday.

When she complained to the officials, they said no gov-ernment employee can be placedunder suspension for more than six months and the uni-versity had to revoke the sus-pension order.

The officials also told her thatthe lives of six research studentswho are pursuing PhDs underShivabasavaiah would be jeop-ardised if he continued to besuspended.

“But a committee formed tolook into the allegations hadsubmitted a report more thanthree months ago.

“Based on that, the universityauthorities could have taken ac-tion against the guilty professorbut they did not. It is a sheertravesty of justice.”

Sartiha said she had soughtpermission to protest in front ofuniversity administrative build-ing Crawford Hall, but was al-lowed to protest in front of theDC’s office.

She said a case has been filedbefore the Karnataka High Court, but has been stayed.

Differences exist, butnot personal: Kejriwal

New Delhi: Team Anna has tak-en a hit in recent days - two keymembers quit yesterday; therehave been overt differences witha third, Prashant Bhushan, andhis continuing in the team isuncertain. On the NDTV Indianof the Year 2011 stage, chiefstrategist Arvind Kejriwal ad-mitted there were differences, but tried to play them down.

Magsaysay Award winner andIndia's "Water Man" RajinderSingh and PV Rajagopal quitAnna Hazare's core committeeyesterday objecting to the move-ment taking what they called a"political turn". Mr Singh saidhe believed it was not right forthe team to have campaignedagainst one political party, theCongress, in Hisar.

There was regret when he said,"This is one of the best move-ments after Independence. Butafter some incidents in the lastfew days, I have decided that Icannot be a member of this teamanymore...Without any regardfor democratic values, if youstart campaigning against oneparty, it is not right."

Sources say the two activistshave pointed out that the deci-sion to campaign against theCongress in the Hisar bye-elec-tion was not taken by the corecommittee.

Key Team Anna activists ledby Arvind Kejriwal and KiranBedi had campaigned vigorouslyagainst the Congress in the recentbye-election, asking the votersto defeat the party to send acrossthe message that unless it de-livers the anti-corruption LokpalBill in the winter session of Par-liament, bigger elections comingup in the next few months willalso humble the Congress. When

the results were announced, theparty's candidate fared so poorlythat he even lost his deposit.

The Congress has shruggedsaying this was one election itdid not expect to win, but seniorparty leaders have been scathingabout what they call TeamAnna's partisan involvement.

For Team Anna, the loss ofthe two key, respected memberscomes close on the heels of overtdifferences cropping up betweenclose Anna aide PrashantBhushan and other members ofthe team, including Anna Hazare.

There has been controversyover Mr Bhushan's remark thatthere should be referendum inJammu & Kashmir. After thesenior lawyer and advocate wasattacked in his chamber lastweek by miscreants, who saidthey objected to his statement

on J&K, other members con-demned the attack but said theydisagreed with his opinion.Speaking to NDTV, Arvind Ke-jriwal said most members of theteam disagreed with Mr Bhushanand there would be a decisionon Mr Bhushan soon.

The core committee, he said, would discuss the differences tofind common ground if any onceMr Bhushan was back from theUS.

In the meantime, Anna Hazareseemed to take a swipe at MrBhushan when he wrote a blogpost on Kashmir, saying "Somepeople talk incoherent thingsabout Kashmir..."

Admitting there are differ-ences, Arvind Kejriwal said yes-terday that these were not per-sonal and that "it is alwayshealthy to have a difference of

opinion." Kiran Bedi too tried toplay down the decision of thetwo senior members to quit. "Weare team of volunteers and eachvolunteer is coming for causesof their own. Somebody's comingwith a kisan (farmers') move-ment, somebody for agriculture, somebody for tribal movement, and some for human rights. It'sa group of volunteers and there-fore you can always volunteerout for your own personal rea-sons," she said.

Arvind Kejriwalwants police to release his attackerNew Delhi: Team Anna memberArvind Kejriwal was attackedand heckled on Tuesday as hewas preparing for a meeting inLucknow. The attempted attackcame a day after the drubbingCongress party got in Hisar by-poll and a few days after the at-tack on Prashant Bhushan andAnna's supporters.

Speaking about the incident,Kejriwal on Thursday said, "Po-lice must release the attacker. Ifhe hurled the slipper, we haveto sit with him and talk peace-fully, we shouldn't attack himback. We should be prepared asattacks will happen. We shouldbe tolerant to anyone who wantsto insult us."

"I just want to appeal to thepublic to not fall into any politicalplot and to join hands with usin this moment. This is a goldenopportunity to get rid of corrup-tion from our country," addedKejriwal.

Pathak's uncle Kailash Pathakreacted strongly to the attackand said, "What Jitender did waswrong. He is my nephew but

does not stay here in this village. We have not been in touch withhim for a long time. I have noidea which political leader he isassociated with or which politicalparty he belongs to. He used towork for BJP's Ramprakash Tri-pathi. What he did with the TeamAnna member was wrong."

Fellow Team Anna memberKiran Bedi said, "It appears thatthe Prashant incident was notan isolated one."

There is some ambiguity aboutthe affiliation of the man, JitendraPathak, who attacked Kejriwal. He is known to be close to theBJP and has also appeared inmany of Congress's rallies.

Pathak said, "I attacked Ke-jriwal because he said he hadcome to speak about corruptionbut then never addressed the is-sue."

A little later Kejriwal continuedwith his meeting - this time mix-ing his anti-Congress rhetoricwith some Mayawati bashing.

In his speech Kejriwal said,"We are not permanently op-posed to the Congress. If theydon't bring the Jan Lokpal Bill, don't vote for the Congress.Mayawati, herself, is guilty ofcorruption."

Anti-corruption crusader AnnaHazare also came out in strongsupport of Kejriwal and threat-ened to start his campaign inUP earlier than scheduled.

Anna said, "People have takenbullets, what about a few lathis? After I finish my 'maun vrat', Iwill go to UP."

Team Anna caught the na-tion's imagination by creatingstrong emotions against the gov-ernment. Now it seems the sameemotion is turning against themeven if it's at a small level.

3rd ODI: India favourites to wrap up seriesMohali: Having comprehensively beatenEngland at Hyderabad and Delhi, Indiawill be overwhelming favourites toclinch the one day international series, when the two teams resume battle inthe third match at Mohali on Thurs-day.

England have found their dealingwith the world champions in their ownbackyard to be a completely differentkettle of fish, after having outplayedthe Indians in all three formats of thegame at home.

The visitors have failed miserably inboth the batting and bowling depart-ments which has clearly highlightedtheir inability to cope with the condi-tions.

After conceding 300 runs in the firstODI, the English batsmen failed to riseto the occasion and were bundled outfor 174; and unfortunately for the Poms, there was no turnaround in fortunes inthe second game at the Feroz Shah

Kotla, as a below par score of 237 waschased down with the minimum offuss, thanks to the sublime batting per-formance of Virat Kohli and GautamGambhir.

However, the Englishmen can takeheart from the fact that in both gamesthey were in a position of strength, be-fore allowing the advantage to slipaway.

At Hyderabad, India were 123/4 inthe 29th over, before skipper MahendraSingh Dhoni decided to take mattersinto his own hands with a blisteringknock of 87 from 70 balls.

England were also well placed inDelhi, with five wickets in hand andthe score over the 200 mark in the 42ndover, before losing their way to bebowled in the 49th over.

The Indians on their part will be overthe moon with their performance inthe ODI series so far.

Apart from the middle order which

seems to be solid as a rock, their bowlershave also been on song, especiallypacer, R Vinay Kumar who notched upcareer best figures of 4/30 in the previousgame.

Spinners, Ravichandran Ashwin andRavindra Jadeja have also not faredtoo badly and clearly had the measureof the Englishmen in the series open-er.

The fact that the bowling attackwhich terrorised and tormented Indiajust a month ago can't find the answersthis time around must be on playingon captain Alastair Cook's mind. Cookis also the only England batsman tohave got to a half century in the twomatches so far.

As the two teams gear up for the Mo-hali clash, Team India without gettingto ahead of themselves, could well beentertaining thoughts of a whitewash, even though the fate of the series is yetto be decided.

US must focuson Afghan, not

Pak: KayaniIslamabad: Pakistan's army chieftold parliament's defense com-mittee the United States shouldfocus on stabilising Afghanistaninstead of pushing Pakistan to attack militant groups in a crucial border region, a com-mittee member told Reuters onWednesday.

Army chief General AshfaqKayani also said Pakistan alonewill decide if and when to launcha full-scale offensive in the NorthWaziristan region to attack Is-lamist militants.

He also said the United Stateswould have to think "10 times"before taking any unilateral ac-tion there. Pakistan is not likeIraq or Afghanistan, the parlia-mentarian quoted Kayani as say-ing. The MP spoke on conditionof anonymity.

"The problem lies inAfghanistan, not Pakistan," theparliamentarian quoted Kayanias telling the committee in abriefing on national security mat-ters held at army headquarters.

Such views could deepen ten-sion between the United Statesand its uneasy but importantally Pakistan.

The United States, the sourceof billions of dollars in aid, hasurged Pakistan over the yearsto go after militant groups in

North Waziristan who cross theborder to attack Western andAfghan forces in Afghanistan.

The pressure has becomeacute since US special forceskilled Osama bin Laden in Mayin a Pakistani town where hehad apparently been living foryears. Admiral Mike Mullan saidbefore retiring as chairman ofthe Joint Chiefs of Staff last monththat a militant group which at-tacked US targets in Afghanistanwas a "veritable arm" of Pak-istan's Directorate of Inter-Ser-vices Intelligence (ISI).

The remarks infuriated Pak-istani leaders, who denied linksto the group - the Haqqani net-work - and said Pakistan hassacrificed more than any othercountry that joined the US "waron terror" after the September11, 2001 attacks.

"All intelligence agencies havecontacts. Don't the CIA and (theBritish spy agency) MI6 havesuch contacts? It is through thesecontacts that we get informa-tion," the parliamentarian quotedKayani as saying.

"The nice guys don't give youinformation. It is contacts likethis that yield intelligence. It isabout whether you use this in-formation positively or negative-ly."

Mr Pawar's NationalistCongress Party (NCP) is a crucialpartner in the UPA coalition.

"There was a loss of publicopinion due to this 2G scam, and the public questioned whythe Prime Minister was not in-tervening," Mr Pawar said at afunction organized by theMarathi daily, Loksatta. "Atsuch a time, it is important tohave a strong central govern-ment. But it does not seem to be

the case." The telecom scam — also re-
