Pastor’s Musing Do you want to go to heaven !!!! Father Murphy walked into a pub in Donegal, and said to the first man he met, “Do you want to go to heaven?” The man said, “I do Father.”

The priest said, “Then leave this pub right now!” and approached a second man. “Do you want to go to heaven?” “Certainly, Father,” was the man’s reply. “Then leave this den of Satan,” said the priest, as he walked up to O’Toole. “Do you want to go to heaven?” “No, I don’t Father,” O’Toole replied. The priest looked him right in the eye, and said, “You mean to tell me that when you die you don’t want to go to heaven?” O’Toole smiled, “Oh, when I die, yes, Father. I thought you were getting a group together to go right now.”

SAINTS AND SPECIAL OBSERVANCES Sunday: Twenty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time Monday: The Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary Tuesday: St. Rose of Lima Wednesday: St. Bartholomew Thursday: St. Louis of France; St. Joseph Calasanz Saturday: St. Monica

Message from the Pastor W elcome to St. Ambrose ! We are so glad you are able to

join us today to celebrate the Twenty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time. DISCIPLINE: It is no accident that the words “disciple” and “discipline” are nearly identical. Their relationship in Christian faith and life, however, has fallen somewhat out of favor in the past generation, as certain prescribed Church rules and regulations have been reduced and relaxed. These rules were often referred to as “disciplines.” We are mistaken, however, to think that it no longer takes discipline to follow Christ. The Letter to the Hebrews assures us of that today. Our discipline is more like that of an athlete pursuing a victory or a personal best, or a musician striving for a concert career or to master a new piece of music. This discipline comes from desire, not from regulations. It was the desire to do the will of God that led Jesus on the path to his cross. It is that same desire he encourages in us today: to strive to enter through the narrow gate, to find ourselves in the kingdom with a surprising assortment of people who are there not because of mere observation of rules, but out of a genuine desire to recline at the table of the heavenly banquet. Have a wonderful week—Remember—the most beautiful thing is to see a person smiling; and even more beautiful is knowing that you are the reason behind it!

Take Five for Faith Love is the ticket - Do you ever try to imagine what heaven is like? Do you wonder how it can possibly accom-modate all people from all places and cultures from the beginning of time? Heaven is beyond all understanding and description, but as the Catechism puts it, it’s a place of “supreme, definitive happiness” that will fulfill all your “deepest human longings.” Sounds mighty nice, and everyone aims to get there. But how? Simple: love. However imperfectly, with faithful attempts. If you love God, there is a place for you there. Reserve it today.

HOMEBOUND EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS NEEDED

Members of the Homebound Eucharistic Ministry bring Holy Communion to members of the Parish who are not able to attend Mass regularly because they are frail, elderly, homebound or suffering from an extended illness. Homebound members of our Parish should be made to feel just as valuable as those who are able to attend Mass. It is made known to them that their

prayers for the church and parish are still needed and appreciated. They are part of our Parish family and deserve to participate in receiving the Eucharist as part of that family. We are currently looking for individuals who would like to learn more about this special ministry. In order to be an extraordinary minister of the Eucharist, you must be a registered St. Ambrose Parishioner and training is required. There will be a meeting on Monday, August 22 at 7 pm in the Upstairs Parish Hall for more information on this ministry. Thank you.

OUR LADY OF FLORIDA SPIRITUAL – RETREAT

Saint Ambrose Parish

Reflecting Christis the retreat theme this year, which is sometimes difficult to do in our world. However, as disciples and missioners, we are called to reflect Christ & the fruit of the Holy Spirit in all that we do - by emulating his love, truth, mercy, goodness, joy, peace, patience and kindness. Come join us, this year as we disconnect and slip away into a weekend of peace-ful reflection. Together we will have opportunities to deepen our faith and understanding of our role as Christ's disciple with members of other area parishes. For more information, look for us in the Parish Hall after Mass; stop by the church office to pick up regis-tration information or contact: Women’s Retreat: September 30-October 2, 2016 Contact: Donna Kinney, 954-290-7952

God Is Calling You to a Deeper Relationship with Him If we consider that God is the Divine Bridegroom and the Church is His Bride, then the prophets can be seen as “spiritual marriage counselors.” They afflict the comfortable and comfort the afflicted, calling us to return to our covenant relationship with God. They urge us to repentance, warn us of the dangers of sin, and announce the blessings of faithfulness. Their prophetic words speak to us even today, as they draw us closer to our heavenly Bridegroom. A Bible study, The Prophets: Messengers of God’s Mercy, will be presented from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesdays, September 20-November 22, in the Parish Hall Upper Room.

Register in the parish office by September 11 for workbook discount. Contact Bill Whiting at 561-368-6531 or email [email protected].
