ACTIVITIES • Del Mar is known for its beautiful beaches: The River Mouth (or Dog

Beach) is broad, wide and dog-friendly; north Del Mar City Beach, is considered to be one of San Diego’s finest; and south Del Mar City Beach, is long, cliff-lined and isolated, perfect for long walks or jogs.

• The only Tom Fazio-designed course is San Diego is The Grand Golf Club at The Fairmont Grand Del Mar. The par 71 course with over 7,000 yards of greens is strategically nestled in Del Mar’s meadows, hillsides and valleys.

• Drive down the coastline on Historic Highway 101 from laid-back Oceanside to luxurious La Jolla enjoying the diverse and vibrant coastal communities along the way that capture the true essence of a Southern California beach vacation.

• Rise above it all, floating up to 3,000 feet on a clear day, and drift through the clouds in a hot air balloon ride while sipping champagne and enjoying panoramic views. EVENTS • Del Mar is known both nationally and internationally for the Del Mar

Thoroughbred Club and its premier horse racing track. Each year from late July through early September, visitors from around the world gather at the seaside racetrack—founded and popularized by Hollywood legend Bing Crosby—to wager on their favorite horses.

• The Del Mar Fairgrounds, site of the Del Mar Racetrack, offers a program of ongoing attractions throughout the year, the highlight of which is the San Diego County Fair, occurring from mid-June through early July. The San Diego Fair is San Diego’s oldest annual event and the sixth largest fair in the United States, drawing more than 1.4 million visitors annually.

• Each September, Del Mar hosts the annual Taste of Del Mar. This celebration of local artists and restaurants includes a free art walk with live music, an interactive art area for children and a pet parade. DEL MAR BEACHES The beach in Del Mar is one of the most beautiful and enjoyable in San Diego. The two plus miles of sandy beach offers a great place to relax, walk, or run. Two coastal parks, Powerhouse and Seagrove Parks, are located just above the 15th Street surf break; providing a great spot to picnic with friends and family. POSITION SUMMARY This role has overall strategic accountability for the performance (i.e., profitability and satisfaction) of food and beverage outlets for Premier Operations at the Del Mar Fair Grounds. This role is responsible for providing strategic direction, as well as day-to-day decision support to the on-site Food and Beverage Team. This position is responsible for driving and overseeing profitable strategies for the disciplines of Catering, Concession, Culinary, Restaurants, Bars, and Special Event Management. This position requires close collaboration and influence of executive leadership with Facility and Food and Beverage Management to ensure strategic alignment. The F&B Leader will drive strategies to support synergies between discipline areas, and support continual investment in resources to ensure the talent is in place to provide quality support on assigned projects. The F&B Leader will be responsible in maintaining a growing working relationships with the Operating Board of the Fair Grounds maintaining strict adherences to the company code of conduct. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Required Education:

• 4-year bachelor's degree from an accredited University -or- • Related years of experience in the F&B industry

Required Experience:

• 10+ years of leadership experience in the Food & Beverage discipline • Track record of creating profitable, operational, and cutting edge Food & Beverage solutions • Exceptional leadership skills - a proven track record of initiating and championing new concepts through activation • Strong understanding and application of managerial concepts and techniques in areas such as idea creation,

employee development, coaching, cross-team effectiveness, and project/resource management • Strong ability to manage multiple stakeholders with competing priorities • Leadership skills that manage a balance between creative innovation and operational feasibility • Knowledge of cutting edge design solutions with an ability to pull inspiration from a variety of input streams • Strong ability to manage personal capacity and maintain appropriate distance from day to day/tactical operations;

must maintain oversight of department strategy, vision, innovation, and creative momentum • Strong analytical and oral communication skills; excellent interpersonal and leadership skills; able to collaborate

effectively with others in a cross-functional team • Experience introducing and implementing cutting edge ideas; conception through final delivery. • Ability to articulate new concepts clearly and in a compelling way. • Willingness and ability for travel which at time may be extensive at times. • Experience in operating Thoroughbred Racing and Fair Operations are a plus

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Hire, retain, motivate, evaluate and direct food, beverage, and retail staff, ensuring employees receive adequate guidance and resources to accomplish established objectives.

• Review activities in all catering, concession, beverage, and retail merchandise service areas in order to gauge and improve staffing levels, working conditions and other matters which influence quality guest service and profitability.

• Establish department standards, guidelines and objectives and maintains other administrative processes such as budget and staffing to ensure proper planning and efficient operation of assigned areas.

• Monitor and evaluate all reporting departments in order to ensure the proper planning for short and long-term strategies; monitors and evaluates performance of all catering, concession, beverage and retail merchandise services, in order to facilitate ongoing improvement of operations and financial return.

• Review strengths and weaknesses of all food, beverage, and retail merchandise operations such as cost of sales, inventory par levels, and general policies and procedures in order to most effectively implement changes to improve operations and most efficiently allocate resources.
