A-C Central High School Junior & Senior Parents are hosting a post prom party at the Springfield Racquet & Fitness Cen-ter after the prom on May 2, 2009.

Prom night is one of the most exciting and memorable nights for high school students: however, it can be one of the most dangerous. Our goal is to provide a safe, drug-free, and alcohol-free environment. Students that attend the post prom party are locked in for the night, thus provid-ing a fun and safe place for our students and peace of mind for parents. The party will feature fun activities, food, entertainment, and prizes. Each year we have almost every junior and

senior registered to attend along with their guest. We have such high attendance because students look forward to the event each year.

The success of this event largely depends upon the effort put forth by many individuals and organizations. The post prom party is funded by donations from businesses, friends, and families. In order to provide our students with a safe fun environ-ment, monetary donations are needed. Any amount is greatly appreciated. If you would like to make a donation, please make checks payable to: A-C Central High School Post Prom, and mail to: Melissa Mohr, 2334 Hwy 23, Ashland, Illinois 62612

The 7th Grade Lady Knights defeated Christ the King for the

game point for the 15-8 first game win.

In the second game, Christ the King took and early 4-7 lead

before Madalyn Elder served up 4 points for an 8-8 score.

The game then went point for point until the Knights took a

2 point lead at 13-11. The Knights then managed to stay

ahead to take the match for the championship win at 25-20.

The 7th Grade Lady Knights headed into Sectional play with

a record of 18-6, but lost in the first round against Mt. Pu-

laski.

The junior high students at A-C Central Jr. High School have raised $1,545.15 for the children at St. Jude Children’s Research

Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. This hospital treats children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases, regardless of financial need, and conducts research to find cures. This year, 35 junior

high students raised $1,545.15! That is outstanding for a school of our size. Over the last ten years, A-C Central Junior High has

raised $11,325.96 for this great cause. The Math-A-Thon sponsor is Carrie Jo Donnan.

The following students raised over $125: Cheyenne Gain $131 (soccer ball), Cerys Boston $130 (wooden game set), and Kyle Winkelman $128 (basketball).

They will receive a certificate, t-shirt, one ticket to Six Flags, a backpack and a special prize of their choice.

The following students raised $75 up to $125: Quinn Allen $120, Sabrena Reek $83, and Jennifer Adkins $75. They will receive a certificate, t-shirt, one ticket to Six Flags and a backpack.

The following students raised $35 up to $75: Stacey Eskew $70, Alexis Brewers $66, Megan Anderson $55, Westin Duckwiler $50, Kristin Irlam $41.33, Lane Wegs $40, Ross Cloninger $40, Becca Wegs $40, Riley Cowman $36.15, Chrystal Haselett $35, McKenzie Stephens $35, Allyson Quick $35, and Emma Lynn

$35. They will receive a certificate, t-shirt, and one ticket to Six Flags.

Be sure to check the expiration date of the Six Flags ticket.

These students raised less than $35. They will receive a certificate: Kane Landon $25, April Leinberger $25, Jalen Leinberger $25, Courtney Bedtka $22, Joseph Ratliff $20, Hoaby Hoagland $20, Zach Fields $20, Jonas Volk-man $20, Carmen Savage $20, Tiffani Homer $20, Austin Fields

also had a bucket in the cafeteria where students could contribute money.

All students will participate in a pizza party at school and receive

extra credit in math.

Thanks to everyone who has made a contribution. You

are truly making a difference in the lives of children

around the world.

wood Derby on March 21st at Routt High School in Jacksonville. An Open

certificate. We would like to thank the Corporate Sponsors, those who helped

with set-up / teardown and concessions, Hoagy for his assistance, and the Boy Scouts from Troop 125. Thank you to all the parents, family and friends

BOY SCOUT TROOP 125 TO COLLECT AND RETIRE WORN AMERICAN

FLAGS WITH “ONE-DAY-OF-SERVICE”

―One-Day-of-Service‖ is a chance to help the community of central Illinois

through the collection and proper retirement of worn and damaged US Flags.

Troop 125 will be collecting flags in the Ashland community. When the flags

are collected they are then taken to Camp Illinek for formal retirement in a

patriotic manner. Boy Scouts are involved in both activities to organize and

lead the efforts in the proper disposal.

Flags will be collected between 9:00 am and 11:30 am on Saturday morning,

April 18th at the Ashland Village Hall parking lot. Drop boxes will also be

located at the State Bank of Ashland and the Village Hall one week prior to

the collection date. They are taken to Camp Illinek where they are inspected,

counted and folded for the retirement. Starting at 12:30pm, Scouts then

participate in the retirement of flags at several points around camp. The event concludes by 5:00 pm.

IN a typical year, we will retire, 1500-2000 flags in one day! Please show

your respect for America by disposing of your tattered flag with this honored

event.

Troop 125 thanks you!

Troop 125 would like to extend our gratitude for the recent support of the

collection for Scouting for Food. With your help, we collected over 600 lbs

for our local food bank at the Ashland United Methodist Church. Thank You

very much and God Bless. ~ Troop 125

ONE MINUTE EACH NIGHT We have never been more desperate than now for God to heal our land. During WWII, a group was organized who dropped what they were doing every night at a prescribed hour for one minute to collectively pray for the safety of England, its people and peace. This had an amazing effect. There is now a group

organizing the same thing here in America. United States needs prayer now more than ever!!! If you would like to participate: each evening at 8:00 PM Central time, stop whatever you are doing and spend one minute praying for the safety of the United States, our troops, our citizens, for peace in the world, the up-coming election, that the Bible will remain the basis for the laws governing our land and that Christianity will grow in the U.S. Most people know the power of prayer. We here in Ashland do!! Our prayers are the most powerful asset we have. Pass this on to anyone you think will want to join us. May God Bless You!!!

The 9-12 Project was unveiled by Glenn Beck (a nationally syndi-

cated television and radio talk show host) during his nationally-

televised ―We Surround Them‖ television program. It aired live on

March 13, 2009, on the Fox News Channel. This project is designed to

bring us all back to the place we were on September 12, 2001. The day after America was attacked, we were not obsessed with Red

States, Blue States, or political parties. We were united as Americans,

standing together to protect the values and principles of the greatest

nation ever created.

This particular meetup group was created to reach out to all of those in

the Ashland area who yearn to help this country return to the princi-

ples and moral values upon which it was founded. This group and a

multitude of others forming all over the country are part of a non-

political, nationwide effort designed to unite Americans in commitment

to the 9 Principles and 12 Values that made our nation great. Please log on to the912project.com for more info.

Our first meetup in Ashland is scheduled for Friday, April 10th, at 7:00

p.m. at the Ashland Church of Christ. This is not limited to Ashland

residents-please feel free to bring a friend!

These are tough times for all of us! All of us at Allen’s Market realize

that, and we are going to do our best to get everyone through them

and on to better times. Klint, Jeremy, and I are doing all we can to hold costs down and reduce our prices. Watch for our signs ―New Low Price‖

or ―Today’s Best Buy‖. A lot of them are going to start popping up.

There is an old slogan that we have heard many times. It goes…‖If we

please you, tell your friends - if not - please tell us‖. We hope to see a lot of your friends, but really want to know how we can do a better job

for you. Shop this month for reduced prices...like…

I will be running the garden center this year and look forward to seeing

all my old friends and customers. If there is a plant that you want and I do not have it, I will be happy to get it… usually within 24 hours.

Look for daily specials! I will be running a lot of them.

We have begun the window and door work at the school—you will be able to watch the progress on our web-page. It will certainly be an energy savings, as well as improve the appearance of the building. It should be a very efficient process and the architect believes that it will take about 3 weeks to complete. Also, plans are

in progress for the move that will take place this summer. The administrative team has been working on schedules, determining personnel and facility needs, busing, and transitioning into the concept of team-work. It will be a very exciting time for all of us! Our School Improvement Team is to be commended for their dedication and hard work! As soon as plans are finalized, we will announce the enhancements to what we will have to offer for our students. New programs and classes are just the beginning of all the good things

to come! During the March Board meeting several questions emerged. We will try to keep you informed as all the plans enfold.

The after school program will remain in Ashland

As the schedule is finalized, we will inform you of changes that will occur.

The Chandlerville Facility—although old is very well maintained and safe.

The Cafeteria is small at Chandlerville, but lunches will be staggered to accommodate the area.

We plan to have 3rd & 4th together and K- together. Bus transportation will be planned—as usual to be safe and efficient.

Saving money was not a factor in this decision—better educating students was the focus at all times!

Playground equipment can and will be moved to Chandlerville.

This was not a ―quick‖ decision—this decision was based upon research, visiting other schools, surveying

the teachers at our schools, numerous meetings, meetings with all of the teachers, and then determining what is best educational practice and what will work best for our students. School Improvement is a process.

Sports—practices and transportation will be worked out soon.

What were the reasons for this change?

Test scores need to improve.

Curriculum decisions needed to be made based upon alignment to better prepare out students at all lev-

els.

Teachers need to talk about what they are teaching and when - it’s not easy when schools are 20 miles

apart. Response to Intervention (RTI) - remediation of students needs to be targeted.
