V.F.W Meets monthly at 7:00 p.m. on the 3rd Monday at the Firehouse. AMERICAN LEGION POST 498 Meets monthly at 7:30 p.m. on the 3rd Monday at the Firehouse.

ONE MINUTE EACH NIGHT We have never been more desperate than now for God to heal our land. During WWII, a group was organized who dropped what they were doing every night at a prescribed hour for one minute to collectively pray for the safety of Eng-land, its people and peace. This had an amazing effect. There is now a group organizing the same thing here in America. United States needs prayer now more than ever!!! If you would like to participate: each evening at 8:00 PM Central

time, stop whatever you are doing and spend one minute praying for the safety of the United States, our troops, our citizens, for peace in the world, that the Bible will remain the basis for the laws governing our land and that Christianity

will grow in the U.S. Most people know the power of prayer. We here in Ashland do!! Our prayers are the most powerful asset we have. Pass this on to anyone you think will want to join us. May God Bless You!!! Virginia Barbeque, June 5,6 & 7th

I’m sure most of you know that the city of Ash-land pays to dump the recycle bin. It is evident that all who use it are concerned with the envi-

ronment and want to do their part. You can make a bigger difference by flattening boxes and not putting plastics and cans in the bin in a bag. Open

the bag, dump the things in, and then put the bag in a wad in the corner. Many more people will be able to put recyclables in, and much less will end up in the landfills. Thanks for your help.

Press Release: Jim Edgar Panther Creek State Fish and Wildlife Area will host its tenth annual Youth Lady Wing Shoot clinic Saturday, June 13 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Any person age 15 and younger, weighing at least 70 lbs and standing 4’10‖ tall, can participate as well as women of any age. Advanced registration is required by calling 217-452-7741. ―The will learn how to shoot a shotgun, and depending on their hand-eye coordination and strength levels, they can get

pretty proficient,‖ Mike Wickens, Site Superintendent, said. ―I taught three 10 year olds last fall, and when they got done they could hit any clay target I threw to them.‖ Instructors are certified by the National Sporting Clay Associa-tion. Shotguns and shells will be provided, along with hearing and eye protection. ―We use 28 gauge shotguns which have no recoil, so there’s no pain involved with learning to shoot,‖ Wickens said. Participants can shoot approximately 75 times at four different target presentations. Money for the program is raised through various organizations and a complimentary lunch is included. Prior shooting experience or a hunter safety course certification is not required. ―It gives people an opportunity to learn how to use a shot-gun that maybe wouldn’t have any other way to do so,: Wick-ens said. For more information on the Youth Lady Wing Shoot, contact Mike Wickens at 217-452-7741

HOW TO LOCK YOUR CAR AND WHY!

I locked my car. As I walked away I heard

my car door unlock. I went back and locked

my car again three times. Each time, as

soon as I started to walk away, I would hear

it unlock again!! Naturally alarmed, I looked

around and there were two guys sitting in a

car in the fire lane next to the store. They

obviously watching me intently, and there

was no doubt they were somehow involved

in this very weird situation. I quickly

chucked the errand I was on, jumped in my

car and sped away. I went straight to the

police station, told them what had hap-

pened, and found out I was part of a new,

and very successful, scheme being used to

gain entry into cars. Two weeks later, my

friend’s son had a similar happening….

While traveling, my friend’s son stopped at a

roadside rest to use the bathroom. When he

came out to his car less than 4-5 minutes

later, someone had gotten into his car and

stolen his cell phone, laptop computer, GPS

navigator, briefcase...you name it. He called

the police and since there were no signs of

his car being broken into, the police told him

he had been a victim of the latest robbery

tactic-- there is a device that robbers are us-

ing now to clone your car using your key-

chain locking device…

They sit a distance away and watch for their

next victim. They know you are going inside

of the store, restaurant, or bathroom and

that they know they now have a few minutes

to steal and run. The police officer said to

manually lock your car door by hitting

the lock button inside the car--that way

if there is someone sitting in a parking

lot watching for their next victim, it will

not be you.

When you hit the lock button on your

car upon exiting, it does not send the

security code, but if you walk away and

use the door lock on your key chain, it

sends the code through the airwaves

where it can be instantly stolen.

THIS IS VERY REAL...BE CAREFUL AND

LOCK YOUR VEHICLE MANUALLY.
