She is starting her sophomore year at Eastern Illinois University major-ing in Communi-cations / Public Relations. Fallon will compete in the State Pageant in January 2013.
After prayerful consideration, we have de-
cided not to resume the Second Saturday
program this season. We have been
blessed to share the Word of God and the
love of Jesus with many children over the
past ten years. Our plan is to take a short
break and then reorganize at some point in
the future. We encourage the children to
attend other youth programs in our com-
munity.
Thank you for your support. God bless you.

September Birthdays
What is AWANA?
Awana is a Bible-based club that is being held at the First Bap-
tist hurch of Ashland on the second and fourth Sunday of each
month. Meetings begin at 6:00pm and end at 7:30pm. It will
begin in September and end in May. The first meeting is on
September 9th. Boys and girls ages 3 (by Sept. 1) to grade 10
are encouraged to enroll. This is a non-denominational pro-
gram that encourages children to know, love, and serve Jesus
Christ. All children in the community are welcome!
A typical club night consist of 3 parts: game time, Bible lesson,
and Handbook time.
Game time-games are played in the Fellowship Hall with the
game director on the game circle. There are four teams-green,
yellow, blue and red. This is a great way for the kids to learn
respect, discipline, good sportsmanship, fair play, etc. all while
having a great time.
Bible lesson-All levels of club have some form of lesson that is
based on a Bible verse or story. At every level the verse is
applied to every day life also.
Handbook Time-At all levels memory work is done. Children do
not have to be able to read to participate. By the time children
leave us in 6th grade they will have memorized 400 verses.
We stress not just memorizing but putting meaning to the
verses also.
At all levels children are required to wear a uniform. Young
children (preschool-2nd grade) will wear vests. The remaining
clubbers will wear a t-shirt. The cost to register is $10 which
will help cover a portion of the uniform cost, handbooks, and
rewards. (No child will be denied due to financial need.) Chil-
dren at all levels are rewarded during the year with seals,
patches, or jewels to wear on their uniform.
Special Events: At all levels special events are planned
throughout the year.
CHILDREN MAY JOIN AWANA AT ANY TIME!
If you would like to register on our first club night, please ar-
rive at the First Baptist Church at 5:45 on September 9th.

My Favorite Devotion
Friends,
The favorite devotion I read this last month was “Making our ‘For Instances’ For Real” by Dwight L. Moody. I found this
devotion in the book “Every Day with Jesus”. I hope you en-joy and learn something…
“Do what I say, not what I do may work for earthly fathers, but it won’t fly with the Heavenly Father. With Him, our
words must always be congruent with our behavior. Other-wise, they are just useless chatter.
But when our advice matches our actions, then we honor God and show respect to others. We set a good example for fellow believers and also keep nonbelievers from discrediting
our faith and denouncing us as hypocritical. Not living out our Biblical principals is a huge strike against us in their
eyes—and is an affront to Jesus, who set the ultimate exam-ple of putting beliefs into action. He wants us to trust Him, to live His life in us, encouraging us to make our “for in-
stances” for real.”
Have a great September! See you in October!

FROM THE PAGES OF THE LIBRARY...
Living in a small town one might think it to be boring, to some relaxing, to others it could be heaven. One never knows who might be passing through to visit or eat lunch at our local restaurants. On Thursday, August 16, a group of classmates from the class of 1965 were at the Crock Pot and it was revealed that one of those in attendance helped to decorate the Malibu, California Cape Cod-style home of Howie Mandel. (For those who don’t know or ever heard of Mandel, he is one of the judges on the popular NBC TV show “America’s Got Talent” and was the host of the TV show “Deal or No Deal”.) Land Adams of Encino, Calif., was here visiting among with his friend Richard Savage. Richard is the interior decorator mentioned in an ar-ticle in the August 6, 2012 issue of PEOPLE Magazine showcasing the home of Mandel. (page 108) How exciting to talk with him and Lane. After lunch, Lane and Richard visited Jones Bros. Market to visit with another classmate, John Jones. Your small town is home to memories and a place to reminisce. Stop in at the Prairie Skies Library downtown Ashland and read the article. Jerry Conner, class of 1957 was in Ashland the first week of August visiting with family. He stopped in at the Prairie Skies Public Library where his memories of a small town are reminiscent of any Norman Rockwell painting. The show-house theatre, swimming pool, many landmarks along with class-mates and families are now long gone. He remarked that Ashland is lucky to have a library where local history is kept and recorded. Stop in, stay awhile and browse the Historical room and the new Cass County Historical Book on display. Sit and reminisce, you never know what you might find in the pages of history.
Simply “Alneta”
Dry your eyes precious ones Look beyond your pain Smoke and sadness fill the air As they search for us in vain. Knowing that we won’t be back, We’ve crossed the GREAT DIVIDE, And now we’re in a better place, Let your tears subside. We didn’t know what happened We all hear a roaring sound The buildings started shaking There was panic all around. We had no time to think or pray Just running all about It all collapsed around us And we could not make it out.
We hope you find comfort And make good of everyday Don’t look back, we’re not there, In memory we must stay There’s reasons we don’t understand And some we’ll never know In sorrow, don’t question God, It was our appointed time to go. We send our thanks to all of those Who gave all they could give Donations, blood, helping hands, And prayers that we would live. They sacrificed their precious time When chances looked so slim But God sifted thru the rubble, And took us Home with Him. Goodbye, The Victims of September 11, 2001 Alneta Knowles © 09-11-2001
